Melva was hiding inside a huge tree trunk that had a hollow space inside it, making it seem like a cave. Although it didn't make any difference and Rosina could see through the tree anyway, she needed to hide, because she was overwhelmed with the need to do so. She thought she would go mad with the profound feeling of disgrace.
The realisation that Rosina from the entrance of the forest could see whatever they were doing and made everyone see what she saw nearly made her faint out of extreme embarrassment. Vance's nude body was also on display for everyone to see. If possible, Melva wanted to dig a hole and hide inside it forever, never coming out and getting hit by waves of shame again.
"Melva, you cannot hide in there forever," called out Vance, trying to drag Melva out of her hiding place. "We need to get back to the others, you know. It is almost time."
