Melva was surprised that his ghouls took so little time to find the fairy who lived in the underground that might be able to guide them towards Willowdale. How could these ghouls search through all the underground tunnels in merely a few hours?
Then Melva remembered Vance had mentioned that ghouls knew exactly everything that happened in their tunnels, including whoever passed through them. They must have sensed the fairy walking down there and notified Alden immediately. It was still mysterious why they let someone who was not a ghoul to live alongside them in their tunnels.
