Vance and Melva were snuggling under the cover, comforting each other after the shocking near-death experience. Melva took quite a long while to recover. The horror of almost having someone's blood on her hands overwhelmed her. Vance had to whisper sweet nothings to her ear to distract her from her bad thoughts.
"Do you have to be the bait?" asked Vance sleepily after Melva had calmed down and they were enveloped with comfortable silence.
"I thought you agreed with my idea," mumbled Melva, her eyes closing as she was falling asleep from the comfort.
"Agreeing does not mean I am fine with it. I admit it is the best plan we have at the moment, but it is dangerous and I do not like it," said Vance. Melva could faintly make out Vance's deep frown in the dark chamber they were in.
"You will be there with me. I know you will not let me get hurt."
"Still. I cannot get rid of my anxiety. Knowing that you will be within the werewolf's reach makes me worried."
