"Would you like to stay for dinner?" asked Mrs. Halpine when the clock struck six in the evening. "I have enough food for everyone."
Melva felt bad to decline Mrs. Halpine's offer because she had gone as far as preparing food for them all. Although they had a plan to visit the tavern at night in an attempt to gather information about the mysterious witch that had been blending in with the townspeople at Ichorhold, she found it difficult to say no.
Declining what someone had prepared earnestly was rude. But at the same time she did not want to be the one that made the decision for all of them.
Vance probably sensed Melva's hesitation and he answered in her stead, which she was very grateful for. "Yes. We will stay for dinner. Thank you so much for the offer."
