Mrs. Halpine furrowed her brows in disapproval and crossed her arms in defence. She seemed offended with what Melva had said. "What are you trying to say, Miss Winchell?"
Melva realised that Mrs. Halpine did not take her words well. She did not mean to hurt her feelings by invalidating what she had believed in all this time. She was only trying to reassure her and deliver the good news. But apparently, she had said it wrongly.
Now that she thought about that, she must have come across as someone who was bragging that she was still alive even after being sacrificed by Ichorhold. She was bragging that she had survived all that while her daughter had died in the process. That was not what she wanted to say.
Panicking, Melva blurted quickly, "I am sorry, Mrs. Halpine, if I said something wrong. What I am trying to say is that your daughter is still alive. I met her in the world where I lived for the past month."
