Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

"I see you finally made it Patrick, It took you long enough." Thomas deadpanned, not amused that he was left waiting for almost half an hour inside this dreadful cafe'. Specially since he hates interacting with people. And most of all, he hates it when people start to stare.

"I'm sorry that I'm late." Was Patrick's short apology as he grabbed the head of the chair. He sat across Thomas, not minding how irritated his friend is.

"I seriously doubt that." Thomas scowled. ""How is it possible that I live farther than you, yet you're the one who is always late." Thomas continues with a serious expression, his forehead was furrowed and his foot was continuously tapping against the floor. God, if only there was no urgency in their meeting he would've left hours ago.

"Did you drag me out here just to scold me for being late or did you have something important to tell me?" Patrick snaps, raising his head to stare directly at Thomas' eyes. Unlike his friend, his temper is much more erratic.

Thomas holds his stare a few seconds longer before giving up. 'It's not even worth it to fight.' He thought. "Fine." Thomas said in a monotonous tone. "My father has been getting reports from Beta wolves that carcasses and blood has been found in the woods. Whether it is an animal or human, we don't know as the full details has yet to be confirmed." He paused and pulled up his cellphone from his pocket to show the picture of the gruesome murder scene. But whatever or whoever it is, it's not part of the Ingrid-Wang pack.

"Well, that's a sight to see." Was Patrick's sarcastic remark as he stares at the body.

"I've also contacted other wolves from other regions on my father's behalf. But it seems like it is not their's as well."

Patrick tossed the phone back to the other male. "What's our next step?" He asked inquisitively.

"Whatever that creature is, it's attracting too much attention. And it seems that the police is getting involved as well since there are reports of some citizens missing. The biggest problem is, since our family is closely tied to the police force---our clan could be subjected to the punishment since most of us works there."

Patrick silently agreed. It'll be a problem if this problem goes on for a long time since both clans may suspect and point fingers at each other. It could mean an end for an alliance that had just been formed. "If the attacker is human then we can just turn him in with one of cousins and say that the case is closed then?"

Both of them agreed to work together on this without the knowledge of their fathers. As the Alphas in the pack there are advantages on their end. For one, they are beautiful people physically. This, he supposes, is to counteract the fact that they can be terrifying in their beastly form to anyone. Even with scars gotten from fighting for dominance, they are beautiful. Secondly, even though they first transform when they are sixteen, they don't stop maturing physically until they are thirty. Once they stop maturing they don't age and keep healthy until an unexpected event occurs to end their lives. They can live up to three centuries, but not many reach it. Most importantly, werewolves are very hard to kill. The myth of silver is very much a truth and one of the few ways that they could die. Silver is not so easily found now-a-days, not to mention that the majority of the human population believes them a myth. Once mates are claimed, these gifts pass down to them; with the exception of the transformation.

If ever the killer isn't a werewolf then they will have a bigger problem in their hands.

==================

Fog surrounded her from all angles. How in the world did she got lost again? All she wanted was to go to the bathroom and since Hazel was fast asleep she didn't want to bother her for directions. She should've stayed closer to the campsite, that would have been wiser. 'Why do I feel like I've done this before…'

She kept walking into the dark forest with a faulty flashlight in her hand. One wrong turn had her falling down a steep slope she hadn't seen. She squirmed when she felt a slight pain on her ankle. But knowing that she has no choice, she stood up and tried to make up where she is. Great, this time... the flashlight's power went off. With only the dim light from the moon, she took glanced at her surroundings and seemed to be in the middle of the forest. Tall trees were the only things surrounding her and when she looked up, that's when she noticed how shallow the sloped she slipped from was.

'Well that's stupid and embarrassing.' She whispered to herself. Maybe she could use the branches to leverage herself up then?

She was about to lift herself up by grabbing a thick branch but then a twig snapped behind her. She immediately turned to the sound and noticed that a tall figure stood a few feet away. Her initial reaction was to turn around and run as fast as she could---damn it---she doesn't even know how to climb trees anyway. But even with these thoughts in her head, there was something else that kept her frozen in place. She couldn't see him clearly and had to squint her eyes to even be sure there was someone there, yet she somehow she felt safe and scared and confused at the same time.

She saw the figure cock his head to the side. The man seemed to be observing her carefully. Then he raised his head.

'Did he just sniff the air?'

Thalia's fear was slowly being replaced by curiosity… and an intense desire to get closer. She had made up her mind. She's going to find out who this person is once and for all. She took a step closer and closer…

The blaring sound of the alarm made her body jolt in a snap of a finger. Thalia groaned and cursed at the wicked things. She slammed the button of the alarm clock with anger. 'Oh, this fucking thing will be the death of me...' she thoughts as she rubs the back of her hand against her eyes.

Ever since the tall figure first appeared in her dreams, the unknown man has been plaguing his thoughts and dreams thereafter. Thalia become frustrated trying to figure out why this unknown man has been invading her dreams as of late.

Little by little, more and more details are revealed. Before, whenever she wakes up from the dream Thalia would wake up covered in sweat. But now her fear turned into curiosity. The man is appearing so much in her dreams that she simply thinks of him as a nosy night companion. Now she finds herself getting irritated whenever something interrupts the said dream. She's so close to identifying the man, yet it seems so out of reach, much like a game of catch.

Sometimes she tries to sleep again to see if the same dream will continue on... but it's no use.

Stretching her body, she gets ready for her usual morning routine. Just like any other day, she takes a shower and get dressed, make breakfast for two. And then check if Krona still has food on his little bowl.

She grabbed the keys from the wooden plaque on the back of the main door, but then her phone vibrated and rang. Kiss me more by Doja Cat rang loud against her back pocket.

She fists it out from her pocket while humming with the tune, and she purposely answered the call right after the chorus is done. Damn, the guy on the music video was hot. She thought. Finally after train of thoughts, she answered the call. "Hello." She answered.

Thalia heard a sigh from the other line.

"You finished the chorus before answering my call, didn't cha?" Was Hazel's irritated greeting in return and Thalia can't help but laugh because of the reality behind it.

"That I did." She answered honestly with a sing-song tone. "What do you want? You don't usually bug me during mornings unless you need something."

Thalia could her all the scrambling and noise on the other line, and this day seems busier than usual for her sister. And speaking of busy, she looked at the time and she got out of the apartment as well.

"Hurry, I'm on my way to work." Was Thalia's follow up question.

She heard Hazel's soft mumble that seems like an apology. "Sorry, we're just a little tight in schedule since one of us went for maternity leave---"

"Lucky!" Thalia butted in with a smile.

"---and no, not lucky. She has like... four kids already. What's wrong with you?"

Thalia laughed and scratched her head, she turned left and walked straight. From a far distance she can already see the cafe.

"So... lunch?" Was Hazel's way of asking her sister on a date.
