Dave spent the next 14 days slouching around in the research center. He didn't understand why James wanted him to be a Wiper. After all when he collected resources he actually used his skills in a way that helped the research center. Now he was paid to do nothing from Dawn till Evening. Dave saw as these days flew past that there was a growing amount of unrest in Copper Cantury. This day was special since today a riot even broke out in front of the town mayors house. According to Nell it had something to do with the increase of the prices of some imported goods such as Beltion Whisky, Nebralian cloth, Belton Bear, Nebralian Apples, Beltonic Horses, etc. Dave was surprised at first because it clearly wasn't the town mayor's fault it clearly was because of the war. When donn reminded Dave that the prices of Alcoholic drinks rose dave understood that it didn't matter whose fault it was as the citizens simply wanted to take their anger out on someone. Dave didn't really drink often nor did he use or eat anything imported so he didn't feel the effects of the price change as much as most people in Copper Cantury. Whoever had usd and relied on these imported foods,drinks,clothes and livestock, definitely had a problem now.
On Dave's 48th day working in the research center he saw a large amount of people destroying a local shop that sold clothing. The shop had been set on fire. In Dave's opinion that was far too extreme however it wasn't his job to deal with it so he left it to the authorities. As Daved entered he could see Leanana and the old receptionist working on something. They were making a ugly face as if they had to swallow feces. As Dave entered the Wiper's room he saw Nell was already there. Nell was sleeping on one of the Sofas with a book on his head. Donn arrived soon afterwards. Donn sat in the middle of the room and attempted to meditate. Three days ago Donn decided he wants to try out this thing called meditation.
Donn sait a man once claimed it can clear the mind. Not even Donn himself truly believed it but since he didn't have anything much better to do he decided to attempt to master this so called art of meditation. With this the trio lazed around as the Town was on fire. Technically speaking they weren't allowed to not laze around unless they had monsters to kill. As Dave lazed around he thought back on his village. He long decided that he hates dragons, his thoughts on Equi were mixed as for other monsters… he himself was even less sure about that.
After a few hours of resting Dave decided to try reading a book. Just as Dave opened the book.
Dave heard a knocking sound coming from Nells direction. Thus he said.
"Nell it's good you've woken up but stop that damn knocking."
The knocking didn't stop as if Nell didn't hear him. Dave repeated his words with Nell still not responding. This Knocking sound really got on Daves nerves. Dave lifted his head to look into Nell's eyes. When he looked at Nell he saw that Nell was with his eyes closed and a book on his head. Dave heard the knocking continue. Dave looked at Nells arms but they weren't moving. Dave jumped out of the sofa and said.
"Donn get up, Something odds happening here"
Donn opened his eyes and slowly looked forwards. It didn't take long for him to notice the anomaly too. The duo moved Nells sofa aside to see that the wall behind seemed to have cracks.
The knocking continued as if something was hitting the walls with a hammer from the other side.
Donn put a gauntlet on his right hand and smashed through the cracked wall gabing the figure on the other side. The instant the wall was smashed the being smashing the wall got grabbed and pulled towards Donn, however both Donn and Dave saw there were two other black figures who were standing behind the one that got caught.
The black figures leaped away from the hole and jumped down the entire floor. Donn smashed the head of the Figure he was holding to the wall. After this he put another gauntlet on his other hand. Donn grabbed onto Dave's shoulder before running after the two figures in black. After landing after jumping down an entire floor Donn released Dave and began running after the cloaked figures. While Dave inside felt a bit embarrassed his body still gave chase right away.
The cloaked figures dashed between buildings avoiding Daves & Donns pursuit. By now it was clear they were running towards the slums. Dave took out his machete while continuing to give chase. Dave already had bad memories from the slums. Eventually the cloaked figures reached the slums however the duo did not stop chasing them. At a certain allay in the slums the two cloaked figures split and turned into separate roads. Both Dave and Donn knew there was a chance that this was a trap but both of them were Furious about what happened and they were both Wipers. To be a Wiper one must be powerful and capable of fighting a group of opponents while outnumbered and still come out victorious.
The two each split and chased a different cloaked figure. The cloaked figure in front of Dave kept leaping and turning across the allays as if he could predict the future and tell where every single twist and turn was located. Dave thought that the cloaked figure must really know this place well.
As the chase continued slowly but surely the cloaked figure increased the gap between them. However the cloaked figure suddenly stopped and threw a knife at Dave. The knife was covered in a green glowing material. Dave dove down before it could hit him however now he noticed that he's been surrounded. All the buildings near Dave all suddenly opened their doors at once. A hail of throwing knives flew all around dave. He tried to block them with steam blasts but he still got stabbed by one in his right shoulder.
Dave rolled towards the nearest building and Leaped in through the door. Inside stood a massive man with broad shoulders and a stern look. He tried to punch Dave right away. Dave wouldn't let this man have his way so easily though as Dave blasted the man from almost point blank. The man got smashed into the wall on the opposite side of the house. Dave rushed forwards and sliced his neck.
Dave felt shocked inside. He has taken lives before but they were all either pests in the farm or hostile monsters. He never killed a human before being forced to do so here. Dave didn't even have time to think of what he had done as he immediately turned around. It was dark outside and it was harder for Dave to see most colours however he still had these glowing lights that work even in darker places. While it wasn't night vision it allowed him to see at night far better than regular humans.
For some reason the window blocked most of the glowing lights so Dave had to look through a small hole in the wall. There he saw every ambusher clearly. They were glowing like lightbulbs when compared to the darkness around them. Infact Dave could even see what they have touched recently as it would also glow in a dimmer light. He could see some very well hidden people approaching him. With their jet back robes he wouldn't have been able to see them if he could only see like a normal human.
Dave planned his moves and waited for the right moment. When the Camouflaged figures were about to slam open the door Dave shot out a steam burst causing the whole door to fly out crashing into them. Dave used the momentum from the steam blast to roll back deeper into the house. The knives thrown from further back only hit his previous position, Dave charged outwords and slashed his machete killing two of the cloaked figures. Dave blasted the last one away as he charged into another one of the houses. He already knew there was one person inside and another on its roof. Dave dealt with him immediately and grabbed the knife he was holding in his hand. After taking the knife Dave opened the window and let out a few Steam Shots at the closer enemies. Then he rushed out the door throwing the knife at the assassin on the roof. By this point Dave was sure they were assassins. Unfortunately the knife he threw missed the target. After all, Dave was good at throwing weapons but he wasn't that good at throwing weapons.
The assassin threw a knife at Dave from behind hitting his back. Dave leaped into another building and dealt with the two assassins within it. After this Dave ran to the door and poked a hole in it with one of the assassins knives. Once he looked out he saw all the assassins other than the one on the roof and the one he chased began retreating. Dave waited for an opening but it seemed the two assassins were going to wait for him while the others had already left. Understanding this Dave jumped through one of the windows and shot steam at the assasin on the roof. The steam didn hit the assassin but it deflected the knife he threw. This gave Dave enough time to charge straight at the original assassin. The assassin also threw another knife covered in a different strange purple material. Dave could see it was glowing even more than people. This material was no simple thing Dave decided to deflect it rather than attempt to doge. Dave positioned himself slightly to the side and deflected it towards the assassin on the roof. The knife missed the assassin but Dave could see that he collapsed anyway. It seemed that this purple thing had similar effects to that toxic fungi that almost killed Dave. Dave took a route around where the knife flew and tackled the assassin into a wall. Surprisingly the assassin lost consciousness right after getting his head smashed into the nearby wall.
