it is said that if you are patient enough when misfortunate happens you will definitely be rewarded, will that be the case of our lead?, will she be rewarded when she knew nothing but misfortunate, sorrow, being a poor orphan who did not even know who her parents were, will she know what joy feels like?
She gazed outside the carriage's window having no particular thought in mind but at the same time dreaming about a favorite day in her past where she sat in the grass on a hill reading her only book that she read so many times that it does not have a cover and some pages are missing while the cold wind touched her face and reddened her cheeks, and even though it was too cold to be outside in this weather she did not mind, on the contrary it was her favorite moment of the day where there is no one but the sound of birds crying in joy to be flying in the sky in freedom and the waves of the ocean that made the air even colder and sharper but she did not mind she preferred being here a million times better than at home with all the yelling and chaos
She shifts uncomfortably in her seat and closes her eyes resting her head on the window, it has been a long and quiet ride with Marie in the seat in front and Jonathan beside giving nasty looks as always ,She quite adored Marie she has been nothing but kind to her always loving , smiling which she found very comforting but tiring at the same time since if not reciprocated too many questions will be asked later.
but she don't really appreciate her husband Jonathan, never liked the man and neither did he, he hated the fact that she was a quiet girl and never talked to anyone but Marie and hated that she never let that book out of her hand always reading at the dinner table which she only did to avoid conversation but that is just an excuse, the man never liked anyone, barely tolerated his own wife He would yell and throw things if something was not to his liking so her and Marie would do everything in their hands to avoid that to keep peace and quit
"What do you think it looks like?" Marie asked excited getting too close making her back a little
"I don't know and I don't care to be completely honest" she stated adverting her eyes from her back to the window before Marie continues her forced conversation to change the weird atmosphere
"Asa, Do you think They'll let you go to the academy?" She babbles again playing with her red long hair and Asalynn sighed wishing for this all to be over and just go back and sit under the big oak tree but that's not happening any time soon.
"I hope not, I don't wish to waste my time on the silly subject they teach at the academy" Asalynn said and then closed her eyes, arms crossed pretending to be asleep so she can leave her be.
"She'd be damn lucky if they do, I hope they rub that nasty mouth of hers clean while they're at it, she needs discipline and to learn responsibility" Jonathan snarled glaring but hears nothing as always so he turns to his wife to yell at her instead.
"Oh come on now Jonathan quit it! If you're going to be like this the whole time I suggest you return and let me handle this alone since you're obviously unable to handle it like a sophisticated man!" Mr. Davis who is sitting next to Asalynn and honestly she forget he was even there, snapped at him and they start fighting as usual, it's going to be a long ride...
After a few hours of arguing and fighting between each other it becomes quite again and she smiles being at peace and look outside the window as they walk in a small road filled with different types of roses all of the colors that could exist the view is like from a fairytale book making her imagination run wild so she grabs her sketch book and the small pencil and lose herself in the moment and Marie notice giving a knowing smile and she dive into the sketch more
"that's quite lovely Ms. Asalynn, Mr. silver has keen eyes for sure" Mr. Davis stare at the sketch complementing with a small smile which is rare to be seen
" you don't find it dark and scary?" Asalynn wondered and look up to him since Mr. Davis was a very big man that even the carriage barley fit him and he chuckle shaking
"it's a dark and scary world Ms. Asalynn you're only drawing what already exist nothing more" he nods to himself as if he is trying to convince himself Making her thought go darker, he was quite right but she never thought he would think that, a man of the high society he should have everything he desire which made her dive deeper in her thoughts as she looked through the window
Asalynn was quite curious as what life have for her, but it did not matter what is going to happen , she will do what she has always done, sit in a corner and never speak unless spoken to, that was her goal to live a peaceful life since its unlikely she can find a friend or anything.
no one liked her ideas or shared the same interest as her other than Linda her only friend who owns the book store across town but that what she says the woman never claimed to be her friend she only listened to her rambling about the books she read or the new novel she wrote.
The carriage comes to a stop and the coachman knocks signaling that they have finally arrived and Mr. Davis is the first to get off and they follow.
they stood there astonished by what they see in front of them, this is not a mansion its like the king castlse Asalynn thought to herself which she has never seen but it should be for how huge it is, Its very big it could probably fit all the town people here and still have some room for more, she thought as Mr. Davis guide them through the five or probably more floors mansion , painted in silver to show who it belong to with massive tall windows that you can probably see the whole garden and the forest it surrounded by.
the garden was as big as the mansion with the different types of flowers and massive trees that appeared to be at least a hundred years old and it swarmed with what appeared to be servants and maids who are dressed so elegantly walking fast proudly with a straight face attending to their tasks not even glancing to see the visitors in front of them, everything and everyone in this place from trees, animals to people were proud to be part of this place.
it is to overwhelming for Asalynn and her company to take notice of everything that is happening in here, it was like a different world isolated from everything they knew. Asalynn silly red hat that Marie forced on her to look decent tries to escape because of the strong wind but she grab it at the last moment and look up to check the sky and see if its going to rain and indeed the clouds are forming and becoming darker.
they walk for god knows how long in the garden till they reach the front enormous door and stand there waiting awkwardly for Mr. Davis to knock as Jonathan takes his hat off and Marie fix her dress and turns to fix Asa's dress but gets her hand slapped away and she glares at her.
Mr. Davis knocks lightly on the giant door and stand waiting but no one answer which oblige him to knock again and again until the door opens forcefully making Marie flinch to see an old man in a fancy suit and white gloves probably in his mid forties maybe more from his roots turning white and wrinkles under his eyes when he forced a smile glaring at them for knocking this late at night
"How may I help you?" he huffed with a tone of annoyance in his voice as he looked at them one by one to see what we were dressed in before he spoke and Asa steps forward but Marie grabs her before she can pinching her arm.
"Ow! What was that for?" complained Asa looking down to match her since she was taller than her by presumably a lot.
"cool your temper if you don't want to be kicked." she warns the usual sentence in a calm tone with a smile on her face which creeps Asa out taking a step back, she knows to never make her angry.
"Hello Joseph I sincerely apologize for the late arrival I brought miss Asalynn here just as master instructed" Mr. Davis smiled at the man called Joseph who now has his eyes on Asa
"ever heard of appointments Mr. Davis they're very lovely I would be happy to teach you" the so called Joseph says in his thick accent as his eyebrows raise making Mr. Davis chuckle shaking his head amused as if he did not just insult him Just because he is older than everyone do not give him the right to be rude Asa thought to herself not confident enough to say it to his face
"We were supposed to arrive a few hours ago but you know how terrible the weather is, my sincere apologies Joseph."
He smiles as they enter the mansion as rude Joseph show them the way to the guest room and they walk after him If the mansion looked big from the outside it looked even bigger on the inside everything looked and probably is made of gold even the furniture they enter the guest room which is surprisingly different from the whole house
the big windows welcomed the ray of the sun into the room making the whole room shined and he gesture for them to sit and they do , Marie and Asa sit on one side and Jonathan and Mr. Davis on the other separated by the big table .
"you should thank navaris that his grace is kind enough to wait for you until now, stay seated while he arrives and please do not touch anything you can not afford to pay the price of." he cautioned with a straight face closing the door behind him.
"what did he say! how dare he! who does he think himself!" Jonathan says with a red face.
"do not mind him Jonathan he is nothing but talk" Mr. Davis laughs and they sit there waiting , Jonathan and Mr. Davis engage in a conversation or rather fight in their own world and Marie turns to Asa
"you do remember what I taught you right? I know you are smart so I will not repeat myself"
"yes yes I remember if you repeat it one more time I will throw myself from the window so please do not" Asa cried dramatically and tried to sink in the hard sofa.
"I just wish you happiness you deserve some by now" Marie said with a sad voice looking down quite sincere and a bit ashamed to look Asalynn in the eyes
"well I was content living with you but you went on and sold me to some old man did you not?" she said looking Marie dead in the eyes with no emotion to show
"honey you know that is-" Marie begins but gets interrupted by the door opening and Joseph walking in and someone behind him He walks in silently while looking at them one by one before sitting in front of them crossing legs.
"let us get this over with it is quite late".
