Chapter 26 - Your Mate? Nah Bro, You’re Gay

After what felt like forever to Gao Longwei, Feng Jiao finally came back for him.

It felt as if he were a child abandoned in the middle of the desert, and Feng Jiao was his mother who had finally come back for him with a glass of water.

Of course, that was a rather dramatic overdramatization, but to Gao Longwei, who had never experienced any sort of rejection, especially from women, this was a novel and rather painful experience, since it was coming from his mate.

"You came back-" the corner of his lips raised the slightest bit, but not enough to show anyone else that he was happy. Micro motion detector Feng Jiao instantly noticed however, even though the tone of his voice was flat to the point where it seemed almost dry.

Feng Jiao smiled at his unchanging expressions, and made a small gesture, inviting him in.

She led him to the black sofa that contrasted against the white marble tiles of the house, and then sprinted to the kitchen to see if she could find a glass.

After a whole five minutes of searching, she gave up and instead pulled out her water bottle that she took to school everyday. Sure, it wasn't a glass of water, but it was clean water.

What more could Gao Longwei want?

Anything more would be both greedy and impolite, or at least Feng Jiao was prepared to make it seem that way. She was going to roast him to death if he were to tease her about the water bottle.

She handed Gao Longwei her Hello Kitty water bottle that was coral pink like a lot of her stuff, and then turned away in embarrassment. Back in school, anyone who had teased her about the water bottle had a dent in their head caused by said water bottle, but she couldn't do that with Gao Longwei.

He had just done her a favor after all. Plus, in formal terms he could be considered her landlord.

Hitting one's landlord with a water bottle on the first day of moving wasn't exactly the wisest move. It was greedy and disrespectful, and most importantly, hypocritical.

If there was one thing in common with Feng Jiao and Gao Longwei, it was their hatred of being called hypocrites. They were both people who believed people should stay steadfast to their beliefs and never falter.

The only time one should falter would be if the belief was morally wrong or simply incorrect.

Gao Longwei made himself comfortable in the modern sofa that was designed to look like a thundercloud, and then almost snorted as he watched Feng Jiao go through her bag and then pull out a Hello Kitty water bottle.

Then seconds later he felt guilt yet again.

His mate was fourteen. It was the perfect age for a Hello Kitty water bottle. He was the one at fault over here. He shouldn't be in the same house as a minor whose pheromones he was naturally attracted to anyway.

He almost got up to leave, and then realized that would be impolite.

It was the first day that Feng Jiao was moving in after all. If he left abruptly, wouldn't that be rather rude and callous of him?

There was a rather awkward second of silence until Gao Longwei took a swig from Feng Jiao's Hello Kitty water bottle as if it was some sort of expensive, aged alcohol.

Feng Jiao watched the almost comedic sight and then finally asked a question that had been lingering in the back of her mind for a very long time now.

"Why did you ask me to marry you?" she asked seriously. With her hands now placed on her lap as she sat down next to him, her formal stance almost made Gao Longwei feel awkward.

He didn't really know what to say other than, "Because you're my mate."

It was a simple statement that he put out there without any embellishments, but it made Feng Jiao think what he was saying could be true, if only for a brief moment.

Feng Jiao however, snapped out of her daze and looked at him incredulously.

"Impossible." she said with a frown.

She looked almost offended. It was obviously because she thought he was playing her like a fool, but she decided to trust him either way, and softened up a little bit.

"You must be mistaken. Why do you think I'm your mate?" she asked softly and politely, a complete 180 from her previous almost glaring self from seconds ago.

Gao Longwei looked at her curiously, wondering why she couldn't feel the same things that he did. It simply didn't make sense to him. The mate bond was felt by both sides. There was no way that he was unilaterally feeling these emotions toward her.

Or perhaps he was.

"I can smell it." he said softly.

It sounded wrong when he said it out loud, especially since he thought that Feng Jiao was a minor, but he had to say it either way. It somewhat sounded like he was sniffing at her constantly, and in a way that was true.

However, it was involuntary.

Werewolf reflexes if you wanted to call it that.

Feng Jiao thought for a second. Could there be any other reason that he was smelling his mate when she was around… What was the common factor? She was not a werewolf so it couldn't be her, so who else could it be?

Did Gao Longwei have a cold? Nose problems? Sensitivity towards some sort of perfume?

She thought for a second, trying to recall every single time she met him, and who else was there with them in those moments.

It couldn't be Kong Xiulan, she was only there the first time. It couldn't be Liao Jiang, he was only there during their most recent meeting.

There was only one person she could think of who had been there with them each time, and it was time for her to break that news to Gao Longwei.

"Mister, I think you're gay."
