She distracted Daevi with idle gossip for a while until the second moon was at its highest point in the sky and both of them decided to retire to their tents.

Eva helped her undress and wash for the night, which was a rather ghastly affair without the proper tubs and a copper system for water. However, both mistress and handmaid were resilient women, and they managed quite well even with their lacking resources.

Before long, the maid was taking the princess's ink-black hair out of its style to brush it while she wrote a letter on the small vanity table.

Verinia wrote slowly, thinking through her words meticulously so that not a single flaw could be found in her composition. Once she gave it to Sur Ka'iser later, she would have him read through it again just to make sure that everything was proper.
