In the guest palaces of Light Tower Palace, Verinia Hellfryne had a headache.
She did not want to say thank you, but she couldn't be rude, so she did.
Saying thank you was the easiest part. The hardest part of it all was shaking off the annoying person afterward.
"If there's anything you need, don't hesitate to ask. I'll take my leave first." She smiled amicably and got up to return to her residence.
Unfortunately, Sur Elai had no such plans of letting her go.
"What were you doing in the tavern of Ruggard Lane?"
The smile on her face stiffened. "Can't I visit my own natal city?"
Sur Elai was an extremely adaptable man. He was an educated general to begin with, so he knew when to change strategy. Since one question didn't work, he rephrased.
"Why were you in disguise?"
Verinia's face went blank and became expressionless. She looked at the young man, not really knowing how to answer.
