First Prince Halen snickered behind his hand when the First Princess ducked her head in what looked like shame, but absolutely was not.
Verinia Hellfryne would not do something that caused her shame.
"Why are you accusing me of doing something?" The First Adrit motioned to her heavily bandaged self. "I am not allowed to leave my palace and I am injured, so how could I do anything?"
General Elai was not convinced even a little bit. He squinted his eyes suspiciously. "You poisoned the Consorts, didn't you?"
The First Princess gasped, surprised. "They were poisoned?"
Prince Halen burst into laughter. If it weren't for his chronic indiscretion, Verinia might have been able to play the innocent party quite convincingly. As payback, she took away his plate of fruits.
"Hey!"
"No snacks for the impudent." She waved her fruit stick at him in reprimand. How dare he laugh at her? Did children not respect their elders anymore?
