"Gaah, why did that have to happen now? Of all times why now, I just have to get poisoned didn't I?" A small girl who looks no older than 13 can be seen raging at a small handheld device that seems to be playing a game with pocket monsters that can only say their name for some reason."You've been playing that game for 3 hours now, don't you think you should give it a break? Just for a bit?" a young yet burly man said from across the restaurant while he buffed a glass.
"Hell No, if I stop now I will lose my focus and procrastinate, I won't be able to pick up the game again for a month, It's taken me this long to try this damned nuzlock anyway." The young girl simply stated in an exacerbated tone, while snacking on the calamari she ordered 20 minutes earlier."Hey now, you shouldn't talk like that. How would your uncle feel?" the young man said chastizing the girl. "By the way, how has he been doing lately? I haven't heard from him for a while now."
"He's been alright, I don't think he's gotten any worse, actually his mood has been a lot better recently," the girl said nonchalantly
"That's good, but next time you see him make sure you thank him for that calamari since he is the owner he lets you eat for free. Honestly, I don't get why you only ever get the calamari, you know the boss has a lot of his own recipes that might I say are very good even for a kids pallet." the man stated in a chipper tone, obviously admiring the man.
"I don't get how people can eat all this stuff on that menu, all the ingredients are so gross." The girl stated adamantly."Well, when people get older their tastes change maybe when you get older you might understand why." the man said as if it were a lecture.
The girl rolled her eyes as if dismissing the statement as she could never see herself like oysters and caviar. All the while she asked the man for another rootbeer. After about another hour the girl got up from her game and walked out of the prestigious restaurant owned by her uncle. As she was about to walk through the doors leaving, the burly young man speak up.
"Are you leaving Sarah, are you going to see the boss?"
"Ya, I'll tell him you said hi." Hearing the man Sarah replied while walking backward through the doors, while waving with both hands above her head.
"Alright see you later, also tell him to get better soon, everyone is missing his cooking." The man said while giving a slight wave.
Quickly the girl gives a thumbs up through the door before it could close on her hand, while yelling "OK, Owen." She then ran for her dad's car who she called to come to pick her up 30 minutes prior.
Once she closed the door her dad looked back at her with a tired smile and asked, "Do you wanna go visit Uncle Dan" She immediately smiles and confirmed her dad's suspicions.
15 minutes Later they were in the parking lot of the hospital that Sarah's uncle was being cared for. Once they entered, the front desk lady addressed Sarah by name. "Sarah he's been waiting for your visit all day, don't keep him waiting." She finished with a small wink.
After that, father and daughter made their way to his hospital room, soon they opened the door, and Sarah walked in followed by her father. Once Sarah's father closed the door with a click she was already on the frail man with a gentle yet tight hug that lasted for a long 5 seconds.
After that, the girl got off of him and let the brothers have a short embrace as well when the younger brother finally let go of the frail man, a smug smile edged the corner of the frail man's lips. He turned his head toward his niece and with one sentence shook the little girl.
"I am farther than you."
With that, the girl nearly had a panic attack. "What? how you just started watching 2 weeks ago, and I'm almost done with the light novels?" the girl sputtered with pure shock.
"What? These light novels" the older man said as he slowly reached underneath his bed and pull all 16 volumes of Overlord. "What do you think a dying man like me does all day? Honestly, what did you expect, you already know I've caught up with all the anime you've given me, I've been in here for 2 years now I've learned how to binge-watch and read" He simply said with a teasing grin, then trailed off whispering to himself "other than one piece" he said mocking himself.
At that, the little brother burst out laughing, since he knows he is partly to blame for his daughter's rival overtaking her. While all Sarah could do was look on pitifully. She finally broke the silence by asking a question that she already knew the answer to. "So you liked it?"
"Yes, I loved it but it is quite suspicious why you shared this masterpiece with me other than just showing me a show you like, you had so many different anime or manga to show me, how did you know my favorite genre?" he said accusingly while looking at the tall man behind the girl he was talking to.
"Ah, well Dad mentioned one time that before your restaurant took off you were a massive geek in lord of the Rings and high fantasy in general. He then told me that you couldn't spend too much time with all of that since I got very busy with work and helping my mom and dad take care of me. So I thought I would show you my favorite high fantasy story."
The frail man soon found himself chuckling, laughing too much would be very uncomfortable for him, as he found his theory proven correct. "Ya, I thought so, well thank you, Sarah. It was very nostalgic and I enjoyed it."
Soon the conversation was divulging into small talk and simple How do you do's, and this and that person said hello. Since it was a Friday and Sarah's mother had the night shift at work, they decided to spend the night at the hospital.
That night at around 2 A.M Dan woke up from his deep sleep, looking around still a little groggy he wiped his eyes, and once his vision cleared he saw a bright red-haired and shining blue-eyed woman standing in the corner of his room looking at him with an almost melancholic sadness in her eyes.
