{Authors Note: Hello readers, this is the additional chapter as promised! Now that the background has been set I was preparing to write about the construction of the first world however, I decided that since I bored you with all of the background and world-building stuff, you may not want a step by the step building process in the next few chapters. So, as your new favorite author, I have decided to spare you just this once! For the first world to connect to Origin City, we will time skip to after it has been built.} {TAKE NOTE TRAVELER: For the second world and maybe the rest we will see deep insights on construction and easter eggs as well as deep plot descriptions. For now, though, enjoy Timothy Adam Lee, a resident of the BSU as he discovers a new world.}
I groan as I awake from a deep sleep due to the blinding light pouring in from that d*!@ window! 'Wait, what happened last night?... Oh yeah, now I remember... ' I was just fired from the biggest news company on VBS (Virtual Blue Star-The main world of the solar system that is the BSU in VR). After saving up enough money back in the 'real' world after decades of hard work, I finally purchased my own VR capsule and entered the BSU in hopes of making my fortune.
However, to my surprise, the Virtual World is almost the same as the real one except that I get to slave away at my company (yes, I got hired in VR by the same company I worked for IRL) for pennies for even longer due to the new lifespan.
My name is Slav...I mean, Jim Lee. I don't have a family, I mean I did have a loving mother but she died in a car accident and my father became a drunk following my mother's death. Moreover, he was an anti-VR activist so while it may have been only a few months since he's seen me, it has been much longer for me due to time dilation and I have grown apart from him.
Now it's just me living in "the great BSU" making just enough money to maintain my small apartment in the real world (since it houses my capsule) and in the VR since that's where I now live. I get by but I have no meaning in this dreadfully long life and have considered 'ending' it many times but due to my cowardly nature, I've never followed through...
Yesterday, due to my lack of motivation and depression, I was fired because I missed an important deadline. So, here I am in my apartment waking up from my drunken stupor with nothing except a couple thousand Blue Coins to my name. I sat up in bed and looked at the fancy watch on my wrist; this is the most common way for people who have come to VR to interact with their fellow man.
Using this device one could shop, browse the internet, watch the news, use forums, text, call, etc... One thing caught my eye and at the edge of the screen, a long-forgotten icon appeared with a blinking red dot in the upper right-hand corner signaling an update. The image of the icon had two worlds on the left and right sides and between the worlds is a double-sided arrow (<---->).
"This is the icon for world travel is it not? Why is it updated? Did the Norman family finally relinquish dominion over their worlds?" It's not unusual for me to make this assumption since only things of great significance can trigger a world announcement by the VR's AI system...
