Chapter 39 - So it begins! - Perros finally recognized

"Then we should move..." Perros said.

"You may think so, but look at the others." Anna pointed around.

When Perros looked around, no one seemed to be going anywhere. People in pairs of two just stared at each other.

"What are they doing?" Perros asked in confusion.

"That's how you pick a fight, you moron..." Fabricio looked Perros dead in the eye.

"What are you doing?" Perros avoided Fabricio's gaze in a panic.

"What do you think I'm doing? I'm picking a duel with you!" Fabricio was still struggling to make eye contact.

"Would you---" Perros desperately tried to avoid Fabricio's eye contact.

"Stop it!" He quickly added in a slightly raised voice.

"Come on..." Fabricio said in disappointed voice.

"It's creepy, if you want something... say it." Perros said irritably.

"Want to duel?" Fabricio asked.

"You're goddamn right, I do..." Perros smirked.

"Finally!" Fabricio declared triumphantly.

"You will face the consequences of making a fool out of me, Percy!" He added and laughed.

"Whatever..." Perros said unaffectedly.

Perros started looking again at the contestants. Almost all of them had their first partner, except for Black. Perros settled his gaze on him. Few who were looking for a partner passed Perros' glance. When he refocused on Black, he was no longer there. He disappeared as if he'd never been there.

"He's weirdly suspicious..." Perros muttered, then looked at Fabricio.

"You're just weird." He added confidently.

"Just wait, you---" Fabricio began to stir, but Perros was already on his way off.

"Where are you going?!" He added confusedly.

"Away from your weird ass..." Perros chuckled.

"Even the announcer said we have some time left before the duels start." He added as he walked away.

"Hey, newbie!" The announcer whistled at Perros.

"I forgot to say you have to kill 'em. To take their number, that is..." He added, entering the tent for the last time.

Perros just stood, horrified. This news were going directly against his way of life.

"Oh, what's wrong? Don't know how to kill?" Fabricio said mockingly and laughed.

"This is bad..." Perros whispered in dismay.

"Seriously, what's going on?" Anna asked worriedly as she caught up to him.

"You don't have to have any respect for these a-holes. Believe me, you're the only one who doesn't want any bloodshed..." She added.

"I don't kill..." Perros mumbled softly.

"You what?" Anna exclaimed in surprise.

"I've never killed anyone, okay?" Perros said with humility.

"But I did injure one recently, such a bastard that was..." He added.

"How did you even get this far without blowing someone's brains out..." Anna asked questioningly.

Anna paused for a moment and looked around at the others, who were slowly taking their positions as time was almost up.

"Yeah... This is bad." She added.

"Hey! It's about to start..." Fabricio uttered warningly, holding his pocket watch in his hand.

"And don't forget to dull your bullets." He added mockingly.

Perros turned to him with a bored expression.

"I'm not going anywhere near you..." Perros said it with all confidence.

Fabricio took a deep breath and then gave a look of irritation.

"If Muhammad can't go to the mountain, let the mountain come to Muhammad..." Fabricio mumbled through his teeth and headed to face Perros.

"Let's make it fifteen paces..." He added and smiled.

Fabricio came face to face with Perros, who just shrugged his shoulders and stood still.

"Ugh... FINE!" Fabricio exclaimed in annoyance, quickly turned around, walked fifteen paces, and faced Perros again.

As Fabricio locked onto Perros, his watch clicked. Perros became alert and quickly turned his gaze on him.

"It's time." Fabricio smiled devilishly and reached on his back for his guitar case.

"To play me a lullaby?" Perros jokingly said.

Fabricio laid the case on the ground, knelt down and opened it. Exhaling, Fabricio pulled his instrument from the case.

"My songs will truly put you to sleep..." Fabricio said menacingly as he stood up.

At that moment, Perros became even more aware of him, sensing the coming danger. But Perros remained standing still.

"But FOREVER!" Fabricio added, striking his instrument.

A bullet shot out of his guitar. Precisely, it flew from the headstock. It was something Perros had never seen before.

"Shit..." Perros slowly crossed his arms.

"Perros!" Anna cried out in concern.

"I told you!" Fabricio declared angrily.

"The harder I strike, the faster the bullet. The more I play, the more shots it fires." He added.

"Sick banjo, man." Perros added and smiled.

"WHAT?!" Anna and Fabricio exclaimed in shock.

"I-I thought I hit you..." Fabricio helplessly said.

"You hit me, you did... but not me exactly." Perros grinned and shook the loose part of his shirt that had been shot.

Immediately after this action, Perros motionlessly shot down Fabricio's top hat.

"H-How?" Fabricio said with scared look on his face.

"And who even are---" He was about to add, but then he remembered that Anna had spoken Perros' name.

"Did you say P-Perros?!" Fabricio shook himself to the core as he looked at Anna.

"Crap..." Anna softly grunted.

"Looking at you like that..." Fabricio nodded slowly to himself.

"You really resemble yourself... PERCY." He added.

"Don't do anything reckless..." Perros said in a serious voice as his pointed gun loaded.

"You're practically dead if I wanted you to be." He added.

"It's against my... principles. But, well..." Fabricio knelt down.

Perros slowly walked towards him, hoping it wasn't a trap.

"You know I'm not going to kill you, do you?" Perros asked.

"I know, but before you do whatever you feel like doing, I wanted to ask you something..." Fabricio asked meekly.

"Could I join your group?" He added in all seriousness.

"Say what again?" Perros incomprehensively said.

"*Sigh*" Anna sounded irritably.

"You're the reason I became an outlaw in the first place." Fabricio explained.

"First of all, I'm not an outlaw---" Perros said, but Anna interrupted him.

"You are." Anna quickly spoke up.

Perros looked at her uncomprehendingly, then paused.

"So~" Perros said.

"Um... You don't have a musician yet? Right?" Fabricio said uncertainly.

Perros turned to him with a slightly lustful expression.

"That is correct my friend." Perros patted Fabricio on his shoulders and smiled broadly.

"If I manage, well... After I win this tournament, I'll find you somewhere." He added.

"Yes!" Fabricio triumphally exclaimed.

"Now if you'll excuse me..." Perros said, releasing one shell from his gun.

"Cover your ears for me, will you?" He added and fired.

Fabricio fell to the ground. His hat fell within an arm's length of his head. Behind the hat ribbon was Fabricio's number.

"See?!" Perros intentionally shouted loudly.

"That's what happens when you mess with me!" He added while looking and with swiftness grabbed his number and waved it in the air.
