Chereads / Burn Me (Bakugo x Reader) / Chapter 18 - Chapter Seventeen

Chapter 18 - Chapter Seventeen

Bakugo observed remaining silent, he was almost taken back by your assertiveness. You always seemed to be timid and a little shy, so what the hell was this just now?

"Let me take a wild guess why you're here-" Locking eyes with purple hair you placed your hands in your jacket pockets, "-you wanted to be in the hero course, but you didn't make the cut. I might be a bit new to the scene here but since all courses can participate, if you do well in the festival than that would give you a chance to move up from whatever sad course you had to fall back on, tell me, am I barking up the right tree?"

"Damn..." Kirishima breathed.

"You pretty much hit it on the nail-" Purple hair smirked, enjoying your spit fire. "-you missed the part which says if one of us gets moved into the hero course, that would mean they will have to transfer people out to make room."

"Tch." Bakugo rolled his eyes.

"Scouting the competition?" Purple hair copied Bakugo's words, "I'm sure some of my peers are but I am here to let you know if you don't bring your very best, I'll steal your spot right from under you. Consider this a declaration of war."

"Who is this guy!?" Midoriya muttered to Ida who looked just as shaken as Midoriya.

"Hm." You smirked, looking back at purple hair. "That all you got?"

"Wh-"

"If you're going to come into someone's class and declare-what was it again? War? You better come with something better than some sad speech that sounds like you pulled it from a third-grade play." You snapped,

"You're just a bunch of brats who think you're better than us!" A kid with silver hair shouted, "You can spout all the insults you want it's just going to be more embarrassing for when your KO'd!"

Your stomach grumbled causing you and Bakugo to glance at each other. Bakugo sighed, grabbing your shirt and pulling you through the crowd.

"Hey where are you guys going!?" Kirishima stepped forward, "You have to say something!"

"Why?" You wondered, glancing back at the redhead.

"It's Bakugo's fault they are all hating on us now!"

You sucked in a breath of air to respond but before you could Bakugo did.

"These people don't matter." He said,

"Huh?" You found yourself asking with Kirishima.

"The only thing that's important is that I beat them." Bakugo replied.

"The fuck-?" You shook your head; you were defending your class when you stepped up, but Bakugo is just talking with his ego.

Your stomach growled out again, Bakugo glanced from you then back to your shared classmates. He didn't loosen his grip on your shirt sleeve as he pulled you through the crowd.

"Hey-!" The silver haired boy snapped, "-I'm coming for you!"

"I hate that was such a manly exit!" Kirishima cried.

"You do know you just made our entire class a target, right?" You asked Bakugo after rounding the corner away from the group of riled students.

"Yeah-" Bakugo let go of your arm, "-and?"

"Nothing." You shrugged, realizing this was the longest conversation you had with this fiery blond. "I have never been the target before." You smirked, your competitive side showing.

"Hm." Bakugo hummed, studying you from the corner of his eye.

He couldn't get a read on you.

One moment you quiet and almost shy seeming to be so weak and fragile. Then the next second you're this strong, independent fighter who doesn't so much as flinch at confrontation.

"I can hear your stomach, so before you pass out and become my problem what do you want to eat?" He said, deciding that he was going to have to keep his eye on you.

"I have discovered I liked coffee." You say, "I would like that."

"You don't need coffee." Bakugo replied, "Coffee is not food."

"Why do you get to decide if it is or isn't?" You wondered, Bakugo was a little taken back. You were talking to him as if you weren't scared by his explosive personality like most of the school was. Really the only person who ever held a conversation with him was Kirishima.

"Coffee is not food." Bakugo replied, shaking his head clear of thoughts.

"I think it should be its own food group." You nodded to yourself.

"Ugh." Bakugo sighed, "It's no wonder you can't heal for shit, your diet sucks ass!"

"My diet is perfectly fine-" You roll your eyes as you two arrive at Lunch Rush.

"Did you just roll your eyes at me!?" Bakugo snapped, "No one rolls their eyes at me!"

"Yeah-Yeah." You waved looking over the multiple food choices at the glass counter.

After a quick snack with Bakugo who ignored you, you wondered off to find All Might so you could go home for the day.

"Let me get this straight-" You heard All Might say, you leaned against the wall next to the cracked open door. "-you not only let her once again train today against her doctor's wishes, but you also exposed her past to the entire class!?"

"She was fine." Aizawa replied.

"Fine or not-!?" All Might gushed, "-she was just starting to warm up to her class then you go and do this!?"

"(l/n) is a danger to this school-" Vlad commented. "-she needs to be removed immediately!"

"She is no more a danger than you or I am." Aizawa rolled his eyes.

"She is a killer!"

"So are we." Aizawa casually replied,

"Heroism comes with risks most people aren't willing to accept-" All Might defended you, "-you better than anyone should know how the media portrays heroes is overly romanticized, you can't have clean hands when you're cleaning up trash."

"(y/n) (l/n) passed all the requirements and was accepted into UA-" So, Mr. Principle was there too. You continued to lean against the wall outside the office. "-that is not going to change simply because-"

"That's why you kept her from my class-!" Vlad accused, "-isn't it!? Because you knew I wouldn't want a killer inside my-"

"(y/n) was placed in Class 1-A for many reasons-" Mr. Principle said.

"Yeah-!" Vlad spat, "-because of All Might!"

"(y/n) did not get in because of All Might's recommendation." Mr. Principle explained, "Nor did she get in with mine, or Aizawa's or even Midnight's. The board passed her due to her sole talent with her multiple quirks."

"But-"

"The major factor that tipped the scale-" All Might stepped in, "-was Aizawa."

"What!?" Vlad gasped,

"The truth is we have no idea what (y/n) is truly capable of-" Mr. Principle explains, "-we don't even think (y/n) knows. Should her quirk get out of hand during training Aizawa could step in and erase her quirks."

"Be honest Vlad-" All Might turned, "-are you so adamant on getting (y/n) removed from this school because it's your petty jealousy getting the best of you?"

"I have no idea what you're talking about!"

"It's no secret the students of Classes 1-A and 1-B are in competition to be the best, which is natural, but are you stooping to their level? Are you putting one of our students' best interest first or-" Mr. Principle looked over, "-are you trying to cut (y/n) out of the Hero Course because you know with her in Aizawa's class your students will have no hope in stepping out of 1-A's shadow? Do you have no faith in your students Vlad?"

"O-Of course I do-!"

"Then why are you here?" Mr. Principle inquired. "Do you really think I would ever allow anything inside this school that would be a danger?"

"N-No..."

"I personally believe (y/n) will be a fantastic addition to our school." Mr. Principle's words caused a smirk to rise on your lips.

"She worked for that villain!"

"She was forced." All Might corrected, "There is a big difference."

"Whatever!" Vlad spat, throwing his hands in the air seeing he lost once again to Aizawa. You quickly turned on your heel, moving to walk into the office acting as if you hadn't been eavesdropping.

Vlad shoved passed you, glaring as he stormed out of the office. You turned to watch him leave.

"What's wrong with him?" You questioned.

"Oh nothing-!" Mr. Principle waved. "-what do we owe the pleasure (y/n)?"

"Um...school is over." You said, looking to All Might.

"Oh right-!" Mr. Principle recalled; "-you're still staying with All Might since the HPSC funding hasn't cleared yet!"

"You forgot." All might said.

"Well, I better get going!" Mr. Principle quickly left.

"Unbelievable." All Might sighed, shaking his head. "(y/n) how are you feeling!?"

"Huh-?" You turned, "-fine?"

"I told you no more training!"

"But I am fine." You blinked; how did this get turned around on you?

"Aizawa-" All Might turned ready to continue their argument.

"The reason I had (y/n) fight today-" Aizawa ignored All Might, "-was to see if she was ready."

"Ready for what?" You asked.

"Ready for...?" All Might muttered, ".... oh no!" He quickly snapped around, "She is not entering the sports festival!"

"Why not?" You questioned, "Everyone else is."

"If everyone else is jumping off a bridge, would you!?"

"I mean if people are jumping off a bridge, then that probably means there is a good reason they are, and I have better chance at survival if I jump-"

"Alright!" All Might growled, "Smart ass!"

"Always." You smirked. "I want to compete."

"Not happening." All Might states, crossing his arms over his chest.

"She doesn't need your permission-" Aizawa said, "-she needs mine. This was more of a courtesy for you-"

"You already signed her up didn't you!?" All might shouted.

"I did." Aizawa nodded, "Along with the rest of Class 1-A."

"Pull her out-"

"No." You stepped forward, "Don't I get a say in this?"

"No." All Might answered, turning back to Aizawa.

"Fine." Aizawa shrugged, you turned to him feeling a slight sinking feeling.

"What-?" You asked, was he giving up on you that easily?

"Really?" All Might blinked.

"We will get the final say from the only person it matters." Aizawa said.

"You can't ask (y/n)-"

"It's not her." Aizawa yawned, "I already put a call in."

"To who?" You and All Might wondered.

----

You leaned back in Recovery Girl's office chair; your homework spread across her desk.

"It is late-" Recovery Girl sighed through the two grown men bickering. "-this poor girl should be home, eating supper."

"I agree!" All Might jumped, "But he went behind my back-"

"I don't care." Recovery Girl said walking away. You gazed at the many pictures and certificates hanging on the wall. They were all addressed to a: Chiyo Shuzenji.

Shuzenji...

You knew that name.

Recovery Girl walked in just then.

"How are you feeling my dear?"

"I'm ok." You replied, "Hey, do you know a Dr. Shuzenji?" You wondered, "She works at-"

"I am fully aware where my daughter works." Recovery Girl chuckled.

"Sh-She is your-!?"

"Yes." Recovery Girl nodded, "She has told me a lot about you."

"She did?"

"Yes, you grew on her and when she discovered you were going to be attending here, she gave me a call to keep an eye on you."

"Really?"

"Yes, you make quite the impression on people." Recovery Girl smiled.

"Are they still fighting?" You already knew the answer.

"They will figure it out."

"What did Dr. Shuzenji say?" You asked, knowing they were waiting for her to get here to be the final say.

"She got pulled into surgery-" Recovery Girl answered, "-sadly she doesn't think she will be done operating any time soon."

"Oh..."

"But she did speak with Aizawa, and All Might, she said she will order a few tests to be done and if you pass them then well-" Recovery Girl flashed a smile.

"Really!?" You hopped up from the chair.

"Yes." She nodded, "But just as easy as you can pass, you can also fail."

"I understand." You breathed.

"Now-" Recovery Girl helped you collected your items, "-you better get going on home-"

"Yes Ma'am." You nodded.

"-and (y/n)-" Recovery Girl called; "-she is excited to see you." You flashed one of your rare smiles, causing the elder woman's heart to fill with joy. "Knock it off you two!" Recovery Girl snapped, hitting both All might and Aizawa. "Get this young one home!"

"We are going!" All Might protested.

The ride home all the way through dinner was mostly silent.

All Might didn't try to mask his anger.

"I don't want you participating!" All Might snapped, causing you to look up from your bowl of homemade soup.

"I will be fine-"

"You don't know that!" All Might tried to reason, "There are so many ways you could get hurt!"

"Then I'll get hurt!" You replied, "It happens-!"

"No, it doesn't!"

"You're not giving Midoriya this much trouble!" You snapped, "You praise him for wanting to enter!"

"He isn't injured like you are!"

"His whole arm is messed up from your guy's training!"

"That is different!"

"How!?"

"Because-Because it just is!"

"Do you hear yourself?" You scoffed, "I get he is your favorite but-"

"He is not my favorite."

"Oh please." You rolled your eyes. "You two are conjoined at the hip."

"(y/n)-"

"No-" You shook your head, "-why can't you support me like you do him?"

"You are not ready-"

"I think I know when I am ready or not."

"I will not support you-" All might's tone was solemn. "-if you go against-"

"Because I am not Midoriya-!" You through your arms up leaning back in your chair, "-if I was you would give me a freaking metal for wanting to push myself, finding new limits!"

"I would not-"

"Those are your exact words you said to him!"

"Why are you listening in on our conversation-?"

"Because that's the only way I'll ever hear any kind of encouragement from you!" You snapped, pulling yourself from sitting.

"(y/n)-!" All Might called after you, but you just stormed away to your bedroom not wanting to hear anything else he had to say.
