A few more weeks did Cormac and Melusine stay in Pacifica, but the fact remained that there were questions that needed answers. What had happened to Cormac's father? Was Melusine actually a Princess of the Deep who had been given up and been raised as a human? Was she actually a descended of the Melusine that the Plantagenets had claimed descent from? Well, maybe that last one was not quite so important, but the other two did require answers.
After they had explained everything to Ronemun and Aremy, the Young Egan and the Surface-Born Merrow-Maiden were silent as they waited for the Sea King and Sea Queen to reply to what had been told to them. Cormac had almost expected that Ronemun and Aremy would think it too dangerous for them to go by themselves and so insist that the two redheads go with an armed guard.
To their surprise however, Ronemun and Aremy did not insist on such a thing. Placing a hand upon Cormac's shoulder, the Sea King said to the boy: "I suppose you two would prefer to actually go to Sinith the normal way rather than me teleporting you two."
With a nod, Cormac answered: "Yes, that is indeed what we would like. We won't discover more about this new world we inhabit."
"Well then in that case, we should supply you two with some transportation." Commented Aremy.
"Transportation?" Melusine asked. "You mean like those seahorse-like things? Oh, that would be lovely!"
Giving a small smile, Cormac could not help but feel the description of the mounts were accurate. They looked like seahorses with the heads of dragons, fins like bat wings and a pair of legs with webbed feet. "Seahorse-like" was indeed an apt description.
"Those or sharks, Melusine." Answered Ronemun. "I apologize that we can't offer you a sea turtle drawn carriage, but sea turtles don't dwell this far down being air breathers and all."
After a small chuckle, Cormac said: "The seahorses would be great. Thank you, Ronemun."
Smiling at Cormac, Ronemun uttered: "We are family, Cormac. We can't let you go forth without something like transportation, a map or food, but most of all we cannot send you forth without a new blade. Like me you are a hero of the Deep, Cormac. What is a hero without his blade, or in my case, dagger-axe?"
With crossed arms, Aremy said to her husband: "I seem to recall a time when you made no use of any weapons. Just your fists."
Giving a small laugh, Ronemun held out his watery left hand and commented: "Yes, and we all know where that got me!" Looking once more to Cormac and Melusine, the Sea King said: "I want you two to stay safe and if you ever solve these mysteries of yours, there are two things I want you to do."
"What is that, Ronemun?" inquired Melusine.
"For you, Melusine, I want you to still think of Pacifica as being like home even if you do turn out to be a long-last princess of Sinith. And for you, Cormac… If you find out what happened to your father, I want you to bring him here. I would like to meet my cousin."
Cormac promised that he would do that and as far as Melusine was concerned, Pacifica would be her home in the Deep even if she was a long-lost princess of another undersea nation. When the two Children of the Storm did depart upon their mounts and Cormac with a new blade, they looked back at Pacifica, that jewel of the Deep and knew that they would come back to this city ruled and defended by Ronemun the Sea King and his queen Aremy, but for now new adventures awaited them in the Deep and there were mysteries to be solved.
