Yan Nuan was already dozing on the hospital bed when a knock disturbed her sleep. The door was opened and the doctor came in again. A nurse was also behind him.
He flashed her a smile. "Were you sleeping? Sorry for disturbing your sleep."
"It's nothing," Yan Nuan replied and sat up.
"I want to give you an overall check up," the doctor continued as he approached her and beckoned to the nurse. Yan Nuan gave her consent and watched as he did his magic.
After the doctor finished the check up, he looked at her in awe. "This is really surprising, Young Master Yan. You have an extremely fast recovering body. The wounds on your body would normally not clear up in a span of two months but it's already beginning to close up. I advise you not to exert your body too much and avoid doing extremely hard tasks."
Yan Nuan nodded although she could not completely understand. However, she understood that he meant that she was healing fast and should not stress herself.
The doctor left with the nurse tailing behind him as they discussed and Yan Nuan sighed. She was extremely bored. She shut her eyes once more and began to doze off.
The sun was already setting when Yan Nuan finally woke up. The moment she opened her eyes, she saw the back of Nanny Liu turned towards her. She had taken a bath and changed into a blue chiffon dress. Yan Nuan folded her arms as she looked at the slender older woman with interest. Nanny Liu seemed to be very young in Yan Nuan's perspective and she was also pretty that even the cheap chiffon dress she was putting on did nothing to hide her beauty.
Yan Nuan was still in thought when Nanny Liu turned around. She gasped in surprise and hurried over to Yan Nuan with a bowl of soup in hand. She placed the bowl on the bedside table and moved closer to Yan Nuan's bed. She turned the knob at the side of the bed and lifted the mattress up.
Upon seeing that Yan Nuan could now sit up without straining her back, she lifted the table and placed the bowl on it. She picked a spoon and handed it over to Yan Nuan. "You should drink it up now before it gets cold."
Yan Nuan looked at the bowl of soup placed in front of her and her heart swelled uncontrollably. She smiled happily and nodded before gobbling up the soup in one go. It was hot and spicy but Yan Nuan loved it all the same. She dropped the bowl back on the table and lifted her head up only to see the surprised expression on Nanny Liu's face.
"Is something wrong, Nanny Liu?" she asked in confusion.
Nanny Liu shook her head and smiled. "I was just surprised. I remember that you don't like spicy food. But the doctor insisted you should eat more of it."
Yan Nuan felt her heart stop. She eyed the bowl on the table and her eyelashes trembled. She had nearly been caught. She hadn't thought about the former personality of Yan Yehan. She flashed Nanny Liu a smile. "Actually, it doesn't taste all that bad. It makes me feel refreshed." She also didn't forget to compliment Nanny Liu. "Moreover, who wouldn't drink anything coming from such a young and pretty woman?"
Nanny Liu instantly blushed at her words and immediately forgot about her doubts. No woman liked to be called old. Actually, Nanny Liu was already turning forty. However despite her stress and hardships, she still looked like a thirty year old woman.
She clicked her tongue and playfully knocked Yan Nuan's forehead. "Such a brownnoser. Alright, go and have a bath. I brought some clothes for you. I'll dish out your meal before you finish bathing."
"Alright," Yan Nuan replied and got down the bed. She moved towards the shopping bags on the cabinet and brought out the clothes in them. She looked at the male clothes and sighed. They looked so comfy and comfortable compared to the heavy war armors Yan Nuan was used to in her past life.
Nanny Liu heard her sigh and thought that she was reluctant to wear the clothes. She was already feeling sad and guilty when she heard the news of her 'young master's' death. Only, she knew how devastated she had been. It felt just like it had eighteen years ago when she received the news that her child had died at birth. She mumbled in a low voice,
"I'm sorry."
Yan Nuan turned to her in surprise. "What's wrong, Nanny Liu? Why are you apologizing?
Nanny Liu sighed. "I'm so sorry for bringing you into this. If only I hadn't hid your gender from childhood, then, you wouldn't have to be so secretive. And, you could be anyone you want."
Yan Nuan heaved a sigh and walked towards her. She said,
"Nanny Liu, it's not your fault. If you hadn't done so, I'll probably be an outcast in the family considering grandfather's detest towards girls. I should thank you for doing so, Nanny Liu."
A tear trickled down Nanny Liu's cheeks and she embraced Yan Nuan. Although, she had no idea what had brought a change in Yan Nuan who had always treated her like she would treat any other staff. There hadn't really been any intimacy between them before this despite that Nanny Liu treated her so well. Who knew when she would have a chance to enjoy such a warm embrace again? She could feel Yan Nuan's body warmth through the thin fabric she was putting on. It filled her heart with warmth.
Nanny Liu had always felt guilty towards her dead child. She had deprived the unborn baby of good nutrients. She was poor and struggling to survive, thus, she hardly had any good food to eat during pregnancy. As such, she had vowed in her heart to take care of and protect this 'young master' she was serving.
