Chapter 3 - Reincarnated as Yan Yehan [2]

Yan Nuan's chest rose and leveled slowly until she no longer cried. She felt the arms that hung around her shoulders loosen. Someone sat beside her on the bed and Yan Nuan lifted her face to look at the person. It was Nanny Liu.

She rested Yan Nuan's head on her own shoulders. Yan Nuan didn't stop her. Instead, she leaned closer and rested her head in the crook of the older woman's neck.

Yan Nuan felt touched. It was also why she had cried. At that moment, she had felt all her resentment rise up forcing her to shed tears. After all, despite she was a capable woman, she had her own regrets. She felt cheated at the thought of Han Qing who had betrayed her for power. It wasn't as if Yan Nuan had gained her fame and power without any sacrifice. She knew how much she suffered to have become such an outstanding martial artist.

Why did she have to die despite her sufferings?

"Young Master," Nanny Liu cooed, snapping her out of her thoughts.

Yan Nuan stilled. She instinctively wanted to correct her that she was a girl. However, a sudden memory came to her.

She was actually disguising a boy? Her father did not want a female child. She had no mother. However, her nanny disguised her as a boy since childhood. More so, the former host had gotten used to being called a boy that she had begun to act like one.

Yan Nuan was uneasy. She gently sat up straight and looked at Nanny Liu. It seemed to be that except the host, only Nanny Liu knew about her gender. Yan Nuan's gaze met with that of her father's. She retracted her gaze out of guilt. The real Yan Yehan had been able to hide her gender for so long but Yan Nuan had just arrived in this body. What if she messed up and the truth was discovered?

She heard someone clear his throat and looked in the direction . It was the tall man in white coat from earlier. The young man who had shouted 'ghost' was still behind him. The tall man faced her father. "CEO Yan, congratulations. This is a really surprising turnout of events. I had checked his vitals. Actually, he had stopped breathing. Even the guest surgeon had said that he wouldn't survive it. I apologize for misleading you. I also apologize on behalf of my intern. He was scared earlier and called the young master a ghost."

Her father looked at the doctor and nodded. "It's okay. At least, my son is okay now."

The doctor gave a polite nod and exited the room with the intern. Father Yan towards Yan Nuan and asked, "How do you feel, Yehan?"

"I'm fine," Yan Nuan replied, trying to thicken her voice more.

He nodded and glanced at his wristwatch before looking at Nanny Liu. "I left the meeting in Guangzhou in a hurry. I need to return now. My flight should be ready to take off."

Nanny Liu instantly stood up disapprovingly. "Master…"

Father Yan glanced at Yan Nuan instead. "I'm sorry for leaving this way, buddy. But we really can't afford to offend those investors. And by the way, even if I stayed I might not necessarily be of help to you."

Yan Nuan looked at him and nodded.

"It's fine. See I can even lift my arms now." She tried to demonstrate and lifted her bruised arms. She yelped. It was only now she noticed that she was in pain. Yan Nuan remembered an adage in her past life that said, "One never knows pain until you've escaped danger."

Nevertheless, she continued to say to Father Yan. "You should go. Otherwise, we will lose the investors. Nanny Liu, you also look tired. You should go home and have a bath."

Nanny Liu looked at herself with embarrassment. She lowered her head and the tip of her ears which were bright red cane into view. Yan Nuan narrowed her ears at the sight. But Nanny Liu was oblivious. Inwardly, she chided herself. She hadn't had a bath since yesterday when she got the news. What if she smelt badly and the 'young master' couldn't stand it?

She instantly grabbed her bag and prepared to leave. However, she also gave Father Yan a disapproving glare before walking out of the room.

Father Yan smiled helplessly and looked at Yan Nuan. "I'm so sorry. I'll be back in an hour."

Yan Nuan nodded in understanding. She also wanted him to leave. Otherwise, there was every chance she might panic and let slip. The older man nodded and left the room. Yan Nuan leaned back on her bed and at that moment, the memories she acquired earlier gushed out immediately. She was able to identify all of the people in them.

She looked around the room. It was very serene and quiet. She was in a VIP ward. The walls were painted white and there were two beds in the room. Yan Nuan was sleeping on one and the other was meant for her guardian. She could hear indistinct chatter from the other side of the door.

Yan Nuan got down the bed and walked to the door marked bathroom. With a turn of the door knob, she stepped into the bathroom. She remembered that she needed to know how she looked like. To be able to hide her gender for so many years, Yan Nuan wondered what kind of person she was.

Directly opposite, a tall mirror faced her. From there, she could see a replica of her. Yan Nuan was surprised. This was what she would probably look like in her past life if she were truly a boy. So, she actually reincarnated into the body of someone who looked like her?

The person in the mirror was tall. He wasn't exactly lean but he didn't have the physique of a man. He had short dark wavy hair. He was also very fair as a doll as if he was made of glass and had a pair of silvery blue eyes that glittered in the mirror. The person in the mirror which faced Yan Nuan was very pretty. If not that her hair was low cut hiding some of her feminine features, it would have been evident that she was a girl.

"Yan Yehan," Yan Nuan mused under her breath.

Yan Nuan felt conflicted. On one hand, she had been given another chance at life. A new body and identity. The only problem was how to keep on hiding her gender as female. In her past life, she had lived with males in the training camp. She herself knew how hard it was to hide such a thing.

On the other hand, she had no idea how her death had impacted the Emperor. She didn't want the Emperor to sway from his responsibilities due to her death. He was very weak at heart. Most importantly, she wanted to know if it had been discovered that Han Qing was the one who poisoned her.

At that thought, Yan Nuan sighed. Anyway, take things as they come.
