Chapter 20 - Chapter 20

Third Person POV

*Flashback*

a pretty little girl looked so weak as she washed all the dirty dishes that had piled up. In fact, this is not a one-man job. it wasn't even the little girl's turn. but the older kids forced her to do their homework by threatening to take her dinner if she didn't comply.

She did it in silence. She knew fighting back would not stop them from torturing her. They will hurt her even more.

This poor little girl didn't even know why she was being treated this way. Just like a slave. Aren't they all the same here? They all have no one, let alone family nor parents. That's why they are in this orphanage. Because no one wants them. Then why was she treated differently?

They always bother her, took her foods, forced her doing tough jobs, they even hit her if she resisted to did what they want.

Today was just like the other days for her. Her fingers felt very cold and wrinkled from being exposed to water for too long. She washed the dishes cleanly while occasionally wiping away her sad tears.

She needed to be hurry or she won't get enough sleep. Sure enough, tomorrow will be as tough as today or even worse.

Finally, she was done with the dishes. After make sure everything was on its place neat and clean, she dried her hand and walk out from the kitchen.

Her feet throbbing in pain. Her heels felt like they were being pricked by needles from standing too long. As she walked down the hall, she remembered what she had been doing all day. Cleaning Friska and her clique's room, mopping along the dormitory halls, washing the bed linen, and washing the dishes after dinner.

The orphanage didn't lack of workers. It's just that the owner of the orphanage sets rules so that the children did housework together. She believes by helping each other, the sister-brotherhood bond will grow.

Miss Terry divided their work and made a schedule. The heavier work would be done by the older children. Younger children will help in any way they can. Aurora belong to older group, since she was 8 years old now. The work she does is not heavy if it's done together. But she did it all at once alone.

She didn't get it. But can't do anything against it. Once, she told Miss Terry about how the other children make her do all their work. But Miss Terry did not believe her. The other kids will lying that they didn't do anything to her.

When they knew she told the orphanage owner about it, they would beat her, bullied her, told her names, told her that she is ugly and that's why no one want her as their child.

Is that true? She thought. Still walking on the hallaway, she stopped when her eyes caught some wild flowers on the ground. The white little flowers were still budding. She smiled and crouching to caressed the leafs.

"You must be very beautiful when you are blooming..." said the little Aurora.

"I think that will happen tomorrow, you you have to be patient."

She smiled and paused for a moment.

"I'll be here when that happen..."

After admiring the little budding flowers she got up on her feet and started to walk to her room.

She called it a bedroom. Her little piece of heaven.

The room was at the end of this hall. Located on the outermost and farthest away. Actually this was not her room, but Friska forced her to change rooms. At first she didn't want to, but after Friska almost destroyed the her favorite flower vase, Aurora finally relented.

Sighing, she opened the door that sound with a cracked. Closing the door, she didn't forget to lock it.

Aurora walked unsteadily towards the bed while looking around her room. when compared to other children's rooms, this rooms are the most clean, tidy, and beautiful. Aurora can turn a small room into a beautiful one with simple decorations.

The items in this room are just simple items. A bed for one person, a small wardrobe in which there are only a few clothes, a small mirror, a table with some books and Aurora's school bag.

The bed she longed at the end of the day. She climbed on top of it, feel the soft of one and only blanket she had under her small hands. Looking outside from the window beside the bed, she was in dazed.

The moonlight seemed so beautiful and enchanting. She reached out her hand to touch a single Daisy that she grow on a pot. She found it on the field just in the back yard of the school building. In the first sight Aurora decided to take the beautiful flower with her. Since then, it became her most treasures thing.

She loves flowers. To the point she could watch them all day and touch their soft petals without feeling bored. Aurora feels like she can understand them more than she can understand people around her. They became her friends. The only living thing that appreciate her company.

Aurora lay her head down to the worned pillow. Still look at her Daisy and sighed. She can't wait to get out of here, start a new life. Where she can live without feeling pressure and being treated arbitrarily. She really want to live just like the other kid who spend their time with a loving familiy.

But why no one want her?

She calling the days when a familiy visited the orphanage and the other kids would join them as their child. She could see how happy they are, the smiles on their faces, the hugging, the laughing, she want to experience it too.

Everytime Aurora want to present herself in front of the visitor, they never look at her. Or they did, but then they would only give her pityful smile, asked her name, age and then went away.

She often look at her reflection in the mirror. Did she look that bad?

Again, with heart full of hope and mouth of praying, she promised herself. That she will be a good girl and proud of her family later. Her eyes felt heavy and soon she drift of to sleep, didn't notice the swaying of the flower petals that seemed to be lulling saying all her prayers would come true one day.
