Chapter 3 - Test Subject II: The System And It's Terminals

Carol led me into a new room, I felt as if I had so much to say, so many questions to ask, but frankly speaking I did not have the voice to ask those questions. This room was weird, as opposed to the pristine white that has been my constant companion for the past three weeks. But this room was dark, it wasn't too big and it only had a single table on it. The table was pitch black and seemed to be made of some sort of rock, however there were indentations on it, and I could count six of them. there was a seventh, and it held what looked like an egg in it, if eggs were a smooth silver metal the size of a basketball, and had a light shimmer to them.

"Seven we've tested much from you over the past three weeks, I know how smart you are, which is why I believe I can give you this explanation and tell you why you're here. Your IQ is not much, way lesser than we expected at 98, however your information deducting skills, philosophy and emotional quotient puts you above 98% of educated adults. So even if you can't talk, we know…. I know you have a good heart. And it's something that I am so proud of…. If only you weren't born here." Nurse Carol said, her voice having a hitch to it as she cleared her throat looking like she had said something she was not supposed to.

But I was confused, when was I tested? And why was this conversation so weird. I couldn't say I understood, but never the less I couldn't ask questions, so all I could do was sit there and listen to her as she explained whatever it is she wanted to explain to me. In the end I was just a six-year-old boy trapped in a world that's familiar and unfamiliar at the same time, and worst of all, I had no voice in it, no method or manner that I could use to express myself, all I could do is remain silent to the world as it shouted right back at me.

"Energy flows and ebbs in numerous and miraculous ways in the universe. The system is the consciousness of all that is, all that was. And all that will be. It is energy and it is life just as much as it is death. It connects every civilization across vast stretches of stars and planets, and it gives every species equal opportunity to grow strong and reach for the stars. But the mortal frame, regardless of the biological composition of each species, cannot withstand the energy and boon of the system.

So the system created terminals, normally terminals are orb like machines that enables you to access the system, you can upgrade your terminals, giving it consciousness, new forms, new skills as you both grow stronger, basically terminals are like pets, and you can have more than one of them as long as you grow strong enough. About fifty years ago, the system developed an upgrade to the terminals, when it became obvious that people preferred if their terminals were living beings as opposed to the mechanical orbs they all were.

And so terminal orbs became Terminal Beasts. But the thing is there was a limitation, only species with a specific genetic code could bond with a Terminal Beast. And even more so go into dungeons and beast dimensions to either tame new ones by gathering beast cards, or gain new skills and abilities for them. humans unfortunately are one of the species that scarcely has that genetic code, it is only until 25 years ago that more and more children with that code were born, but yet they only make up for 5% of humanity's 86 billion people, all spread out across the vastness of the stars.

It has been proven that Nobles, as the world has taken to calling people who bond with a beast Terminal, are at least 85% stronger than people still bonded with mechanical terminals. You and six others before you have been genetically altered…. that is to say you guys are special. You've been blessed and enhanced with the special gene right from when you guys were in my…. your mother's womb.

Artificially unlocking that gene for you guys had also brought about certain biological changes, or side effects. For example, number one can see things in all spectrums and even has reflexes so fast well trained soldiers can't catch him. But he's blind, completely unable to see like normal. His eyes processes information through heat, infrared, radar, and energy. Number 4 was born with actual wings, and they're strong and can help him match the speed of a fighter jet. Yet the bones in his legs are brittle and he needs a wheel chair to move around.

You can't talk, but you seem capable of listening to and feeling the vibrations in the air. Extensive test has shown that you might actually have control over the element of wind, fine tuning that control to the sub-element of sound. Some of the doctors say you might end up a great musician Insha'Allah. All of you have gifts, don't think of it as defects but gifts. And these gifts will make it possible for you guys to bond with a beast terminal, it will make it easier for you to survive too... and that's what's most important to me.

Your elder brothers and sisters have already bonded with theirs, now it's your turn to do the same. The last of the Beast Terminal has been left for you, and once you've bonded with it, ill teach everything else that you need to know and prepare you for what's to come next. Are your ready Seven?"

This was a lot to take in, so far everything has seemed pretty rushed to me, but I had to look at the facts. I've been reborn in a world where there is magic and systems and beasts, and the government is fucked up and aliens are the norm. six years was bullshit because I knew I was very much older than that, but what kind of reality was this. it went against everything I've ever been taught or believe, so what if religion still exists here…. I'm still so in out of my head I feel like I would drown if no one shows me a shred of sanity. But apart from Carol there was no one else to help me, and the scariest part of it all, I think she was or is my mother. But what was there to do or say about it; absolutely nothing. so I just looked at her and nodded my head, preparing myself invariably for what was to come.
