Marlon looked at the menu, and willed the inventory section to open. It opened into a 10 by 10 grid, but only 20 of the squares were white. The rest were greyed out, which Marlon assumed meant they couldn't be used. There were three items in his inventory, one with an orange backdrop and a colorful spin wheel, and the other was a chest with a question mark on a green backdrop. The last was another chest, this one without a question mark and on a grey backdrop. Instinctively Marlon could tell that the grey backed chest was significantly less valuable than the one with a green backdrop. The orange item seemed to radiate power, and Marlon's gut told him that this was an item so valuable that he may never see one again.
[Alrighty! This is the inventory!] the child's voice once again cut through his thoughts like a knife through butter. Marlon thought to himself that this habit of the kid's was starting to really grind his gears. A man's mind is his only private haven, may had said, but not, mused Marlon, any longer. [Each of your one hundred squares will hold up to 99 of the same item. However, if they are a different variation or rarity, they will not stack! There are 5 different rarity rankings or grades, as they are usually called: At the bottom is common, and items with a grey backdrop (like the chest in your inventory) fall into this category. Next up is uncommon, with a green background; followed by rare, with blue; epic, with purple and finally legendary, with an orange backdrop. The item you have in your first slot is a legendary, and you may never see one again, so make sure to revel in the sight!]
Marlon examined the items in the grid, sizing them up. He focused on the orange wheel when he heard the last sentence, and to his surprise, a description popped up; (Race Wheel - Legendary grade - A spin of the wheel will assign the spinner a random race from the 6 options.). Marlon's eyes lit up. This item was amazing, being able to assign a race to the user randomly. It could literally change your life. Feeling invigorated by his latest discovery, he moved on to the green chest. And his jaw dropped. In the background he could vaguely hear the child explaining how to see the description of items, and he realised that he could actually muffle the kid's voice behind his own thoughts. Or maybe since the child realised he already knew how to find the description, he simply lowered his voice inside Marlon's head. He dismissed the thought and went back to gawking at the rare chest.
(Race Skill Chest - Uncommon Grade - Grants a random uncommon or (occasionally) rare grade spell or item or skill that is related to the user's race). This chest was directly related to the race wheel in their inventories, and Marlon guessed it was not by chance they had these items. A quick check with Freya proved that he was not the only one with the wheel and two chests. The other chest was a standard one; (Equipment Chest - Common Grade - Grants the user a random common or sometimes uncommon weapon, spell, piece of armour or other item.). Nothing special here then, he thought. But again a familiar voice tore through his head.
[Go ahead and focus on the wheel. It will activate when you try!] Marlon silently cursed this talkative toddler and activated the wheel. His inventory face disappeared and a wheel popped up. Each of the sections was labeled differently, and he looked at the races he could obtain:
- Human
- Elf
- Dwarf
- Orc
- Dragon Men
- Mystic Wolves
Marlon breathed in sharply. This was becoming more video game like by the second. He looked at the difference races, and briefly considered which one he would prefer. He dismissed the thought almost instantly, as the if sky-baby had teleported them from their old lives to here, he wouldn't mess up something as simple as random chance. Marlon took a deep breath and looked at Freya. "Let's do it on three." he suggested, and she nodded silently. Marlon closed his eyes and inhaled.
"3..."
"2..."
"1..."
"Spin!!!"
