Chapter 4 - Calibrating

When I awoke, I opened my eyes to a different setting but still the most enchanting woman I had ever seen was holding me tight in her embrace. It took a few seconds to snap myself back to reality, "I… was just born…"

I studied the woman who held me, "This must be my mother… she seems young, 20 at the latest, with a slim, athletic build." Her brown eyes lovingly looking back down at me— I looked away, "Ah she's too enchanting… and I'm fairly certain this is just my baby emotions getting the better of me."

I took a look at my surroundings as my mother walked around with me in her arms, seeing a large well-lit room with elegant but simple furniture. "Ah good there seems to be electricity, now if we at least have some Wi-Fi, I can use this life to become a genius from an early age computer scientist and start my own business."

I realized that if I focused, I could begin to hear sounds around me "Man, this is rough… my body feels so disconnected I have to actually focus to be able to hear." I listened to the sounds around me hearing my mother speak and quickly realizing I could not understand a word she said. "Damn did I end up in another country this time?"

I listened to the noises around me realizing there seemed to be a small tapping sound following behind us wherever my mom walked. I tried to lift my head to see what it was but the mere effort of doing so left me exhausted causing me to fall back asleep in my mother's arms. It was hard to grasp a concept of the passage time as any effort to investigate my surroundings left me exhausted, falling back asleep.

As time went on, I slowly felt my control over my body increasing. I was now able to grab things in my hands. Granted my hands were still tiny and my arms didn't move exactly how I wanted but my mom noticing my improving motor skills gave me a toy sword to play with, it was a strange toy to give a newborn, but I didn't particularly mind since it gave me a chance to improve my grip strength although my arms still just kind of flailed around with unintended movements.

As my mom sat on a couch holding me, I heard the familiar tapping across the ground next to us allowing me to finally turn my head and meet my furry friend… or so I thought before seeing a 3-foot long lizard with short wings folded on its back and long, jagged teeth staring back at me.
