I looked from behind me and saw four wolf-like bipedal creatures standing 20 metres away watching us. Pellet-chan was on the other hand, observed them carefully for any signs of inconspicuous movements.
She's staying quiet again. I can tell that she's currently pretending to be frozen in place from fear but actually casting a spell. I must buy time for her to finish that said incantation. I slowly moved my hands to grab hold of my sword's hilt. The enemy is still observing us like hawks.
Nevertheless, I must admit. It's pretty dark in this place, it's going to be a tough fight if I go against these things in this kind of vision disadvantage. I quickly stood at a sword stance in front of Pellet as her vanguard which alerted the wolves.
"Holy Light!"
Pellet shouted out from behind me. Pellet had raised her staff upwards and the crystal embedded in it's center brought out a strong white light that illuminated a huge chunk of the dark forest. Not only did the light blind the mysterious monsters who have obviously secluded themselves in the darkness, it also helped me see where they were now that I can see!
My feet zapped me into the front of one of the doggos and with a violent impact and crack, it was flung high into the air as I kicked it from it's chin. It's probably dead now and it won't be able to call for reinforcements either with it's vocal chord being broken down.
The next!
I dashed at one of it's allies which was blinded next to him and planted my sword at it's right eyeball. It screamed in agony and it's face was distorted in anger and pain, when it had tried to pierce me with both it's claws in a pincer attack, I put power in my arms and pushed the blade deep enough for the sword to strike it's brain. It shivered for a bit before lying flat on the ground, dead.
"My spell is going to end soon and more of them are going to keep coming because of that last howl!"
Pellet cried out to me who just yanked my sword out of the monster's eye socket. It was unnatural for me to see her like this, since I always portrayed her as a calm and quiet individual since we met. And indeed, that last scream it had done will surely make more of them come. For now, I'll finish off these two.
Before the light spell runs out, I dashed at one of those things and sneaked up on it's back to skewer it's heart. After I had succeeded, it also shrieked and made it's call for reinforcements ring across the forest.
*SFX for footsteps*
"!?"
With a violent jerk to pull out the sword from it's heart, I fell back as the last wolf made it's way towards us, delivering a fatal blow to it's ally's neck with it's claws. Causing a huge chunk of it's neck being cut down.
That was close, it may not be able to see but it still can sense with it's remaining senses besides sight.
I watched as the corpse was decapitated by it's former comrade's claws. It fell with a dull sound on the ground.
"Limit..."
The light from Pellet's spell had disappeared. The werewolf-like creature who knew now that it can see, opened it's crimson eyes and locked it's sights on me. Revealing it's mouth full of tiny fangs.
The monster rushed at it's prey which was me, after covering a good distance, it raised it's claws on each sides and attempted to slice my body in half with it's right hand's claws. I managed to avoid it by jumping upwards. His attack may have missed, but his eyes were still locked on to me. Now that I'm this close, looking at it's face I can tell it's not a werewolf from it's flatter face and vampiric appearance, this thing might be something similar to a Lycan so let's go with that.
I looked at my left and saw it's left claw going for my head, this thing wouldn't give me a chance to fight back. If one of them is this strong, then we would have died if Pellet hadn't casted the Holy Light spell. It would be pathetic for someone like me who just got isekaied to die during the first day.
This monster's momentum, I can use it to my advantage.
Before it's claws had reached me, I grasped my sword tightly in my right fist while pointing it's sharp edge at it's claw. It noticed what I'm planning, but it was far too late. It's hand was severed from it's place as dark red blood spewed on the ground along with the excruciating screams of the lycan. I kicked it's chest and used that momentum to perform a backwards flip in order to quickly take distance from it.
I landed on my two feet, I crouched on the ground watching the lycan screaming in pain. I noticed I was partially drenched in blood as well.
"Kill it now! Don't let it call for more!"
Heeding Pellet's order, I lunged at the lycan and when I was atop it, I thrusted the tip of my sword at the spot where it's heart rested. I felt the sensation of cutting flesh from the blade and from the vibrations I feel from it, I could tell I've pierced it's beating heart.
I pulled the sword out from it's body and looked at Pellet who was frantically looking around while holding out her staff with both hands. The point to which her staff's tip pointed at lies an orange circle filled with elaborate hieroglyphs. She urged me to hurry and come to her, she didn't speak but I could tell from her cornered look.
I stood beside her while keeping a lookout. She opened her mouth and spoke. She was shaking madly from head to toe.
"I'm casting a fire wall spell. Beasts unless dragons are naturally afraid of fire so this will keep us safe for a while when their mates arrive... We have no time to escape nor do I intend to. If you want to live, just tell me and I'll send you back home with my teleportation scroll. It's my fault for dragging you into this, anyway..."
She soberly suggested while not breaking her gaze from the magic circle and the surroundings.
"I'll stay with you."
I replied with unwavering conviction. At the response, I saw her cheeks redden slightly but she didn't do anything other than that.
"We've only just met earlier, don't be foolish."
"It's only natural to help a fellow human when they're in need. No matter how much time was spent with each other."
I heard her make a sigh. I feel as thought I had helped her a bit to gain some confidence and courage, it feels great since this is the first time I did so, even in my previous world. Even though I'm not even sure if that's what happened.
I realized late that my lips had curled into a smile. Like it wasn't enough to just convey it with words, I focused all my senses on detection for enemy footsteps.
And so, as I thought. They've arrived.
The numerous growls and enraged groans of the lycans resounded from the nearest trees. I prodded Pellet to inform her of our precious guests' arrival.
Finally, they're in sight. Coming out from our left, right and front were atleast 20 more lycans. They looked at their fallen kin's corpses then diverted those red pupils towards us. I swallowed my own saliva unconsciously from the aura they were emanating. Not only am I an amateur fighter and Pellet's magic doesn't work, we were even totally outnumbered.
Without wasting any more time, the lycans charged right at us. Using all four limbs to amplify their movement speed.
Within a span of only 3 seconds, they have already covered the distance and one of them managed to leap above us to go for the kill.
*SFX for flame combustion*
However, they all immediately hesitated when a ring of fire surrounded me and my companion. The one that went ahead first wanted to retreat but it couldn't as it was stuck in the air from it's own jump. And since I'm a very kind person, I helped it by kicking it's chest towards the direction of the other lycans. Man, was it thankful after it had crashed onto two others of it's race.
The lycans had ceased their approach just as Pellet had predicted. But what comes after this fire wall disappears? I resorted to asking Pellet-chan the wise mage.
"Pellet-chan, what's our plan?"
"We... Have none."
I guess not that wise. I guess we have no choice but to use my trump card since it doesn't seem like she can't beat them.
"Since we don't have a plan, can we make a last struggle with my trump card?"
She looked interested and stared at my figure while she held out her spell with trembling hands.
"Yes..."
I feel like she knew what it was already just from how she painfully said it... Well there's no way she could, right?
I approached her which made her wonder for a bit. I kneeled on her side while she was still desperately holding out her staff with exhausted hands. If she allowed that thing to go face downwards, the fire wall's height will drop so much that the lycans will be able to come barge in like tigers jumping in the hole of a fiery ring seen in circuses.
"W-What are you doing-"
Her last words were cut off when I used my right hand to slowly pull her figure towards me. A moment later I was already locking lips with her which she was so desperately struggling against even though her long pointy ears were reddening madly. However, she couldn't stop me or else the firewall would fall, so she had no choice but to yield.
Her lips are so soft and she smells nice. So this is how it feels to kiss a girl. My first kiss is with a female elf, how clever.
After our kiss had finally lasted for fifteen seconds, a robotic voice of a woman spoke in my mind.
『Seven Clavery had received 1,000 Affection Points. Number is sufficient for the utilization of the skill,"Write Destiny".』
I slowly parted my lips from Pellet's. She was so red that I couldn't tell if she was embarrassed or angry from the sudden sexual assault, maybe a mixture of both? In that case, I hope she forgives me after this is over. She was in a trance but it's good news she was still holding out her staff to keep the barrier in check. Afterall, I need her to buy more time for me.
I promptly took out the parchment and quill from my small bag and laid it down on my thighs before scribbling on it madly but carefully with the quill made of black owl feather. The skill description said it wouldn't activate if there was a grammatical error and I can only use this once.
Moments later, the firewall finally fell after it's reached its time limit. It's done, but so was I.
As I watched the flames extinguish themselves and descend on the ground, the lycans were already facing us. But at that time, I raised the parchment to which I wrote in.
"Bye bye~."
I mocked the lycans before the skill activated. The moment it did so, the flames had finally reached the ground and were extinguished.
The paper that I was holding was set ablaze by blue flames. Strangely enough, no dust remained and the flames didn't feel harmful but rather, it was at a pleasant temperature.
All the lycans in front of us slowly froze up the more the parchment burned, until they finally turned to pure statues made of gold. It wasn't only them, all the other lycans in this forest were all turned to gold.
Afterall, what I wrote on the paper was;
All the lycans in the forest were paralyzed in place and eventually turned to pure statues of gold for all eternity.
Yep. Just that.
I closed my eyes and once again seeked for any signs of unnatural movements in the surroundings to see if the skill worked just fine. It looks like this place is safe now, and I just remembered Pellet.
A loud sound of someone getting slapped resonated in the whole forest.
My right cheek felt like it was burning from how hard I got slapped. It turns out she was angry not because I kissed her but because I took her first. I can understand how important it is but it's not as important as our lives! Not like I can say that to her face.
"You took my first... I'll never be a wife. I'll never get married now!"
She broke down on her knees, she wasn't crying though. But she was observing something like a slab buried in the ground.
I feel bad for her, but if she's that bothered, I don't mind marrying her.
I approached her to see what it was and saw that it looked like some sort of ancient hidden passage with an ominous blue symbol of a wolf's severed head carved in it. This is so shady that I would never enter this thing.
"W-We're not going to enter this, are we?"
I asked Pellet-chan to make sure. She was biting her thumb in her mouth, thinking of something that I'm not capable of guessing. When she heard me, she stopped and opened her mouth to speak.
"No, we're not. But can you open it? That's another reason why I brought you here besides fighting those things."
With apparent signs of hesitation, I slowly walked over to the slab. It was four times the size of a coffin. I can see a chasm in the middle, meaning this is some sort of trapdoor.
I inserted both hands in two cavities under the slab which must be used to make it easier to open. I heaved with all my might. But even with this amount of strength, I was having trouble...
Nevertheless, I didn't give up. This is just like opening a pickle jar, it might sometimes be hard but it just needs a little more push.
I applied that thinking here and poured all my strength in my arms. Like a miracle, I felt my body feel alot lighter and the trapdoor was opened without resistance.
And so, what was inside was revealed before our eyes.
