Chapter 6 - How He started the business From the scratches

Ajay left the job at Motilal i.e. now belongs to Shobha.

He was thinking of going to his native place, however, was unable to make it. He left the dormitory in Shobha's 'Chawl'.

He was under depression. Throughout the day, he kept wandering around.

He was travelling on the local train without a ticket. Then Ticket Collector put him behind bars.

He was happy behind the bars because there he was able to get food two times.

Then after several incidences, the rail staff observes his trick. Then they stop him to arrest, as the Ticket Collector staff also has targets for 'penalty recovery'. By arresting people like Ajay, their records may be spoiled.

This way Ajay's bread-earning way was blocked.

One afternoon he was at Matunga railway station sitting in a gloom. Bearded, scrawny, dirty shirt, scattered hair...

A train stopped. Some people descend. One of them was Ajay's desert man, a roommate. A hefty character ... stood up in front of Ajay.

He said, "Brother, where are you?"

He felt pity for Ajay. He marked up and said, "Come follow me". Like a machine, Ajay followed him. At a distance from Matunga station, they reached a small tea stall.

As soon as they sat at the table, he shouted, "Two Cutting tea with Vada Pav (a popular Mumbai snack)".

The boy runs to fulfil the order by keeping other work aside. Ajay thought within himself, 'Man, he must be a don of this area'. Ajay got new energy after gulping hot tea and Vada Pav.

This hefty man got up and sat at the counter to see the accounts. Ajay was watching everything from a corner.

After two hours he again said, 'Come'.

After a short walk, they entered a lunch home. At that place, also this man was behaving like Don!

He asks Ajay to eat whatever he wants. At around 3 o'clock the customers reduced. After finishing all the work, he came and sat in front of Ajay.

"Brother, will work with me?" Ajay was shocked by his words.

"Listen, our community helps each other to establish and grow business. Any rich man from the community opens a hotel or shop in Mumbai, in which he keeps servants and assistance from our village community.

A few years later the servant becomes the owner himself by learning the intricacies of the business. Our community lends money on one per cent interest. Repayment is through earnings.

My younger brother and I opened these two hotels together.

However, the problem is my brother got seriously wounded due to boiling oil last week. He was hospitalized in Sion Hospital. Now I have the responsibility of two hotels.

A tea stall is small, However, the customer flow is more...

This lunch home is big However, customers are there in the afternoon, only for two to three hours.

Please handle this lunch at home. There are four boys at work. They are illiterate and new to the city. However, they are faithful.

You just give me the amount of my loan and keep the rest for you. If I fail to repay the loan, I may be in a soup at, a village community.

All the working boys sleep here at night. You can also sleep here. I may sometimes join you. "

Ajay thank God for this offer. Now the bread and butter were gifted by God along with a free place to sleep.

Ajay was a hard-working person who accepted the offer.

This opportunity has made a solid impact on Ajay's life. Suddenly he turned from a toiling person to a minor However, the owner.

Ajay was very happy at this point in life.

His brain started working fast. He printed a beautiful menu card. From Churchgate Fashion Street he bought a new sky blue shirt, black pants, and black leather shoes.

He was looking like a successful man in new clothes.

He has a masculine personality at five feet six inches in height little dark complexion, However, with a handsome face. He always felt that he was not born for minor acts in life.

He did not get a school degree However, he had tremendous willpower. He strengthened his weakness.

He started his life as a worker. The worker is the one who only works physically, and never uses the brain.

He was the peon. Then he was promoted to the main 'supervisor'. The supervisor is the one who only obeys the orders and gets work done by workers.

He saw Chartered Accountants and engineers, are Middle-class intellectuals. Who use their knowledge for others! However, they have a lack of self-motivation. He saw a self-motivated person with tremendous willpower could only become the owner of the business.

The process of becoming a master for intellectuals is very slow. Their willpower always defeated my logical mind. They are poor decision-makers.

They can solve difficult problems based on knowledge. However, they ask illiterate moms or less educated wives whether to quit their jobs and start their own businesses or not! Fear of failure continues them to be employees throughout life.

The process of becoming the owner of labour is immediate. The labourer has nothing to lose even if he fails.

Middle-class intellectual families worry too much about failure. Therefore, they prefer a safe cage and are compelled to eat without risks. The responsibilities in the job situation are limited.

The intellectuals listen to taunting and mental torture from the boss, they try to change the boss by changing jobs, but in vain. Only the face of the boss changes else things remain the same. They keep dreaming of becoming a boss one day.

Life vanishes in thin air.

Self-created master with strong willpower has the power to influence the world.

This era started in Ajay's life.

The foundation of business is not a 'capital', however, a risk taken with determinant confidence.

Ajay's was like BLACKMAIL.

He started systematic marketing by visiting nearby offices. He started the coupon system. If someone buys coupons in bulk, able to get a discount of twenty per cent... This formula proved a smash hit.

The kitchen was dirty and black at the rear end. He shifted it at the front so that customers could see the quality of the ingredients used.

Rather than a typical counter, he developed a system. At every order, two bills are created. The waiter has to deposit a bill in the kitchen and accept payment with counterfoil himself.

As a result, traditional labour was saved.

Extra space was created.

More than the taste, he started paying more attention to cleaning and waiters' manners, which were liked by everyone.

In the era of nineties, South Indian Shetty people landed in Mumbai's food industry with their South Indian breakfast. Those restaurants were very popular.

The factors behind their success were cleanliness, uniformed waiters, clean kitchens, and attractive interior.

Even the neon signboards attract general public attention. The 'Ram Bharose Hindu Hotel' concept was replaced, by South Indian restaurants. Ajay just copied their step.

He knew, to get success, follow the successful person's footprints.

Due to all efforts, customers began to flow inside.

Cleaning is at every night. Ajay used to sleep late at night. The tiredness of the day transformed into a sweet and sound sleep.

He did not have a minute's break from work, and as a result, he did not remember the moments enjoyed with Shobha.

That was a lazy Sunday afternoon; in a slack mood, he was feeling dozy in a chair.

The restaurant is closed to the public. Workers were enjoying their weekly off.

He was watching, a forlorn old mother, her young girl, and a helpless ten-year-old boy cross the footpath and sit in front of his restaurant, on the road.

Mother wrapped in a tattered old sari. Hair was scattered due to a lack of attention.

Perhaps they were lost in a giant city called Mumbai. The girl was slim However, with a sharp nose and bright eyes.

The sloppy dress was against her modesty, which unclogged her shame; her attempt to cover herself was making the girl even more miserable.

The boy was trying to hide in the torn 'pallu' of a scared mother.

That lazy afternoon on Sunday was carrying very low traffic on the hot street. The hot steam from the road was coming up.

Helpless mother spread her hands and asked, "Babu (sir) can we get some water for thirsty throats ".

(...What happened next?...)
