I awoke to frantic knocking at my bedroom door. I got up quickly and opened the door. On the other side stood my beta Alice.

"The school is on fire!" Alice yelled. I immediately knew what she meant. A few miles away there was a school where a couple of the packs human mates were. We kept them together in the same school and class to keep an eye on them. But it put them in danger. I rushed to my drawers and threw on a t-shirt and jeans. We both rushed out the doors and went to gather the rest of the wolves that had mates in the classroom.

All of them rushed out and joined me and Alice at the edge of the woods.

"Alright, when we get there we will see if the firemen can save them. We need to give them a chance to enjoy the rest of their time as humans but if we have to step in we will."

They all nodded and mumbled in agreement as we turned around and started running into the woods. After a few seconds of running we shifted and began running faster. All I could think of was the fact that my mate might not have the chance to stay with her family as long as all the other humans. Normally we would leave human mates with their families until they were eighteen but in situations where they are in danger we have no choice but to save them and bring them into the pack early. I stumbled as I ran which caused a chain reaction amongst the pack. They shook it off quickly but took notice of my mood. A couple of them whined and slowed down in response.

"Guys it's okay. I'm just a bit worried." I mind linked them. They pushed forward faster in response. Alice got closer to me as we approached the school. Alice had nothing to worry about because her mate was already with her due to a rogue attack on her mate's house. She still came to support me though so as we got to the school she walked in front of me. We shifted back as we got near people. A group of kids gathered around the school while firemen tried to put out the fire. I felt myself getting worried and scared as I scenced my mates emotions from inside the building. All the other wolves also started to get antsy. Suddenly my mates emotions spiked and every other wolf jumped. I immediately started running towards the building and the other wolves followed suit. Alice stayed directly beside me despite me running full speed. As soon as we entered the building the heat hit us and pushed us back but we kept pushing through. Like Most of the wolves there I knew exactly which classroom they were in. Everyone ran as fast as they could to the class as the building started to collapse around us. As we reached the door the building started to get bad and the wolves slowed down from inhaling smoke. I kicked at the door until it wedged open enough for us to fit through.

I was the first one in and the first one to see what was going on. Fire and smoke engulfed the room. In the corner farthest away from the fire was our mates huddled together. A couple had passed out and the others were holding onto them. I scanned the room for my mate but didn't see her at first.

That was until I looked at a boy in the back helplessly holding onto a small girl. I immediately knew that she was my mate.
