Sir Robert nods. "Don't look so shocked. They're just people like you and me…they just wear fancier clothes…have servants that cater to their every whim…and can have your head chopped off if you look at them wrong." He grins at you. You aren't sure if he's joking or not.
"Anyway, I got tired of being a royal guardsman; felt like adventuring, y'know? My father wasn't too pleased with my decision. He felt I could guard the King one day if I stuck with it. I ended up competing in tournaments instead. I asked to become a knight as one of my boons for winning a big tournament. Sometime later, I also asked to receive land, and they made me Lord of a small village in the north. I don't visit there often."
Oh, no. I lost quite a few at the beginning. I mean, I had an excellent talent for it, but I was still young and not as experienced as some of the older knights. Eventually, I found a good tutor, and he showed me how to win. After winning my fifth tournament, I qualified for the royal tournament; you know, the one they hold every year? I ended up asking the King for a knighthood as my boon, which he granted."
Sir Robert lets out a long breath. "That's about it."
