Chereads / The Prince Of The Elves / Chapter 5 - End of the earth

Chapter 5 - End of the earth

*Miera's POV*

"Listen carefully princes." The oak said.

"Princes?!" Izz repeated.

"Yes." I told him. He was quiet and it almost seemed like his face hardened.

I turned to face the old oak again. "What is done now, can not be undone." The oak said. I knew that. It was not telling me something new.

"Even when the two of you learn about the consequences your deed entails, you are never to hurt one another." The oak continued. "For you are tied as one now." I felt a shiver down mine spine.

"We understand." I said as I looked to the gold-haired man I had only just met.

"Well good." The oak said and it's face disappeared into the tribe of the tree again.

Izz was still quiet. "Do you still want to follow me?" I asked him. "I do." He said with power in his voice.

"We have to find the centaur." I thought out loud. "How in the world can we find him though?" He said as he stroke his hand through his golden hair. His hair seemed soft.

"If you take my hand, I can take us there I think." I wasn't really sure if that was true, since I had never seen the centaur with my own eyes, but I could try.

"Alright." Was the only thing he said.

I took his hand and an electric shock pulled through me. Izz seemed to feel it too, because he stared into my eyes.

"Let's go." I quickly said and closed my eyes.

When I opened them, Izz immediately let go of me. I frowned. What was up with him?

We were standing in a rocky environment. Everything around us was grey. We both gazed around the landscape. I did not see the Centaur. "For the sake of the oak." I mumbled under my breath.

"Did you not say that this was some type of quest?" Izz asked me. "Yeah… Sure.. Why do you ask?" I said confused.

"I think you are kind of cheating with your magic, or whatever it is you are doing." He said. "Arghhh…" I groaned. I knew really well that he was right and I did not like that.

He sighed.

"Okay, where do centaurs usually live?" He asked me. "In caves!" I breathed. "Well there we go!" Izz said and we both looked at the entrance of what seemed to be a cave some miles away.

I touched his arm, blinked and the ground started to tremble. When I opened my eyes, were standing before the entrance. "Or you just continue to cheat." He said disapprovingly.

"Mind your business." I told him in irritation. "Alright your highness." He said the latter as if it was a swearword.

I frowned as I walked into the cave. Izz did not follow me in.

Out of the shadows came a figure. I recognized him, as I had seen him before through images in my mind.

"I see that you have found me." He spoke as he was finally in the light. He was gigantic. His voice was clear but sharp. "You have come to seek information about your people's sword." He said.

"But you have not come alone." He said as he looked at the entrance of the cave. "You are right my Lord." I spoke with care. "I have brought a companion to complete this quest." I almost whispered.

His big deer horns almost reached the sealing of the cave.

"Yes." He mused. "What an unlikely pair you are." He continued. "Some say that love and hate… are two sides of the same blade." He spoke in riddles.

I did not know what he was saying, but I tried to remember every word.

"You would do wise to remember the oath you two have sworn, when you find out the truth soon enough." He stated.

The cave was lighted by a dozen lanterns.

"And about the sword?" I asked him. I did not want to seem impolite, but I did not really have the time to babble with an old man.

"You should go to the end of the earth." He told me. "You can reach it by going in through the mirrored pond. Remember, you can't fight fire with fire." The centaur said while stroking his long wight beard.

"Where can I find that pond?" I asked him. "When you fall off the face of the earth." He breathed.

I shivered.

"Now go, my child." He said as he turned his back to me and started walking deeper into the cave.

I ran out the cave, not wanting to loose any time. "We need to go to the silver lake, which our people call the mirrored lake." I said breathless to Izz.

"Okay, fine. Where is it?" He said sounding skeptical. "I really, really don't know. That lake is a myth." I said scratching my eyebrow.

"Well, what did the centaur say." Izz prompted. "He said that I would find it at the end of the earth."

He punched down to the ground and sighed. "The world does not have an end though." He said in defeat. I sat down as well, trying really hard to think.

I reached into my boot, and took out a map. "What's that?!" Izz said as he came closer to see. "Well, any place around this map." He said as he drew a circle around the lands. "Is eligible to be the end of the world."

He was so close, I could smell the sea on him. "Are you from the coast?" I asked him. "What?!" He said.

"Never mind." I told him. "Maybe we should go back to your castle first." He said in a pushy tone.

"Nope, we won't." I rolled my eyes. "Not empty handed at least." I stated.

I heard Izz mumble something under his breath, but I did not really hear what he was saying. "Can you repeat that?" I asked.

"They lost the war and retrieved to the end of the world." He said hesitantly. "I have heard this before…" I said thinking out loud.

"I think it was something from the great stories…" I couldn't think of it…

"The Sun elves." Izz breathed as our eyes met. My muscles tightened and my face hardened. I balled my fists. "What about them?" I hissed.

"I can't really remember… but isn't it where they live?" Izz said narrowing his eyes.
