Chapter 15 - Alice

After that, I went back the way I came, pulling the girl who was still frightened by the hand. On the way, I met up with an old man who was desperately looking for the girl. He was relieved to see us.

Sure, the girl is a concern, but it's not normal to be this desperate. Perhaps the old man is a paedophile.

After that, I decided to go back to the stall and ask him to make me some twice-fried fried chicken. While the old man was deep-frying the jujubes, the girl holding my hand spoke to me.

"Thank you for what you did."

"You're welcome."

"I haven't introduced myself. My name is Alice."

"Okay."

"Well, I said my name, so tell me your name!"

"Oh, sorry, sorry. My name's Chris."

Alice blushed and muttered, "Chris, Chris," and turned her head to look at the hand I was holding.

I've been holding her hand for so long. It must have been embarrassing. When I tried to let go of her hand, she grabbed it tightly. I can't let go of her hand.

"Where does Chris live?"

"I live far away from here, in the town of Viscount Dreschord."

"That's far…But why are you in the capital now?"

Hmm. I don't know if I should tell her about my status as a nobleman. I don't think it's a problem, but I don't want to make Alice feel uncomfortable, so I'll keep my mouth shut.

"I've been looking for someone."

"What kind of person? I might be able to help!"

The girl's face brightened and her voice rose.

"No, we're a little short-staffed, so I'm looking for someone smart enough to handle the paperwork and stuff."

"Hmmm. I can introduce you to someone who recently quit his job!"

"Really?"

I wasn't expecting much, but lucky me!

"Yes! He used to be my butler, but he quit when he retired. He said he wanted to live away from the capital, so I think it's perfect!"

What? Butler?

"Maybe Alice is some kind of noble?"

"Hee-hee, what are you talking about?"

If she is noble, it's probably best not to get involved unless I know her identity.

"Alice. I appreciate the sentiment, but I'm not interested in that person. The fried chicken is just about done, so I'm leaving! Bye!"

I shook off Alice's hand, snatched the fried chicken from the old man, and ran away.
