Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

"We will make a notary agreement that will contain the principals of guarantees that landowners are safe and investors are also safe." Mr. Oscar cleared his throat. He feared Cassandra would reject this cooperation so he immediately added, "Both sides are guaranteed a profit." He cleared his throat once more.

Cassandra stared at the document she was holding. She wants Mr. Oscar to feel what it's like to be played and humiliated.

Cassandra's grandparents refused to leave their hut even though their neighbors were already willing to sell theirs. Only her late grandparents insisted refused.

Cassandra's heart is deeply poignant when she remembers the events of one year ago about the fire that killed her grandparents. Without realizing it, Cassandra closed her eyes as her chest felt tight. This view was not separated from Carlos' observation. He continued to pay attention to Cassandra; many things in the woman remind Carlos of his ex-wife, Fernanda.

Fernanda was a foolish country girl, while the woman sitting in front of him was so graceful, erudite, and full of confidence. They were both like heaven and earth.

I'm sure they are different people, Carlos thought.

However, there was something in Cassandra's eyes that seemed to remind Carlos of Fernanda. In just an instant, Carlos felt the look in the eyes that Cassandra floated at him was an adoring look as Fernanda used to often give him. But whether it was just Carlos' imagination or not; the look in the eyes of the rich woman in front of him turned scary as if Carlos had done something wrong even though they had just met.

"My assistant will study the offer you made. Honestly, this is an interesting offer. But, the Diamond Estate company also discussed their proposal to our company a few days ago. Their proposals was good as well, it has eye-watering investment value. But...." Cassandra deliberately stopped her sentence to make Xavier's family anxious. Cassandra succeeded in her thought, Mr. Oscar was nervous. He seemed unsettled as he sat in his place.

When Cassandra was about to speak, Mr. Oscar immediately preceded her. "Look. Your name is well known all over the country. No one doesn't know you. Likewise with the kindness of your heart... it is well known to the whole country."

Kindness? Cassandra asked in her mind. Her heart felt fresh and all the blood seemed to be sucked up to her head.

She lowered her head pretending to read the document she's holding.

Back in the day when she was still Fernanda, insults and diatribes were her daily meals as if she was the most lowly creature in the whole wide universe in front of Xavier's family.

She only had a few pieces of clothes -- most are rundown; she has no property, no position, and no family capable of supporting her; a good example of destitute person.

"I would like to tell you a secret...." Cassandra's face became even colder, "Flattery will never work on me. So stop doing it." Her chin was lifted up, and added, "You can leave. I'll reconsider your offer."

Mr Oscar was speechless for a few seconds and then spoke, "But, Miss. Help us. Please reconsider. " Mr. Oscar rose to his feet from his seat, but Cassandra stood up first then left the room. "Miss...."

Mr. Oscar needs the money. He had to find a way for Cassandra to agree for his proposal in any way.

The door have closed. Cassandra set her breath when she was outside of the room in front of the door. Her shoulders went up and down following the rhythm of her breath. She started walking and left the area.

Mr. Oscar groaned angrily, "Brash! Who does she thinks she is! Does she think she's a god! She will repay for this!"

Mrs. Sara looked fiercely at her husband. "What are you saying? People might hear you, we are in her place now," Mrs Sara cautioned. "You should think of a plan first before you curse that rancid woman. We desperately need money right now. Our debt in the bank has been mounting so don't do anything stupid," she whispered.

Patricia, who had been silent, opened her mouth and began to talk, "Why does she looks very familiar? She really looks like that stupid girl." Patricia wondered, she was referring to Fernanda.

Carlos frowned. "Don't ever mention that woman, I don't want to remember that I had a wife like her."

"Oh, sorry, " Patricia said while smiling as if teasing.

Carlos immediately stepped his foot out of the room. He felt very embarrassed because they had received a rejection from Cassandra. The way the woman looked at her was extremely rude. For a moment, there was a passionate desire that the woman wanted to convey. But in the next second, the woman became creepy.

While Carlos was about to leave C&D's office building, Carlos saw Cassandra with a man.

"Hello, Mr. Santiago." Cassandra's voice was so soft while her hands were being kissed intimately by the man. The blood inside Carlos rippled warmly. His reddened face held back something tumultuous in his heart. Why he felt that way? He didn't know either.

"Good afternoon, Princess, how are you today?" Judging from the man's appearance, he looked rich and looks like a businessman.

Carlos gulped his saliva. The distance wasn't so close; yet he could still hear the faint conversation that was taking place between Cassandra and the man.

"I'm good, as usual," Cassandra replied in a friendly way; completely different compare to how she treated Xavier's family.

"Well, just want to remind you that tonight, we're going to have an event that we have to attend together."

Carlos took his breath.

It's their business and has nothing to do with me, Carlos thought.

"Honestly, I don't think I can attend," replied Cassandra. She plans to meet with someone from the Diamond Estate company and immediately invest so that she will be reunited when Xavier's family insists on selling their land to her.

"Oh, come on, Princess. It's really an important event, you've promised to come with me. Mr. Jake's brother, Mr Martin will also come to the event."

As Santiago uttered Mr. Martin's name, Cassandra's heart seemed to dislodge to the floor. The sixty-year-old man will also come to the dinner hosted by the local governor.

"O-okay, I'll go with you," Cassandra replied quickly. She has to attend. This was her chance to meet Mr. Martin.
