There can't be light without darkness or maybe there could but the only reason why light was created was to counter the darkness that was initially in place. Yet some are left unaware of the value of this light because the darkness in which they reside is 'bearable' to them.
But soon enough when they are about to be engulfed in a lethal darkness, they would clench their teeth and stab their hearts while praying for even a ray of light to shine upon them.
Just like this dark night with the wind, and the rain, and the pungent smell of blood. Blood which could even be felt by its thick wetness, yet there wasn't a single drop on the grasses which covered the sand.
In this dark cold night several people of prestige were killed while trying to protect what they deemed important to them.
Reputation
What was to them their throne, kingship, identity and life itself. And for this same reason were they killed by someone who despised all those things.
This kingdom of Derius that was always among the best of all kingdoms had just had their first attack of an immortal's wrath. She will wake up the next day to this heart-rending news just like the previous days that they heard from other places. Only that this one was more brutal than the last, and the victims were people everyone would cry for, but this wasn't the end. In fact this was just another level that is way below the final dishing.
"If I had to kill every powerful person out there for this anger to dissipate, THEN SO BE IT!"
Next morning
In the palace of Derius, the officials rushed to the royal meeting hall in hasty steps as they all whispered and murmured among their groups in pairs and trios.
Since the current queen ascended the throne this was the first time an attack like this had taken place. There was no country that dared to do this only if they wanted to get laid bare with their people carted away as slaves.
The possibility of this attack being connected to that of the ones that previously took place outside their country was what they actually rambled on this morning.
The morning assembly commenced as the queen received their greetings after sitting gracefully on her throne. She was the first to talk as always.
"Everyone is aware of the main reason for today gathering so I don't need to go into that. I'm just going to make one thing clear. If this attack on our delegated escorts was done by another kingdom then the kingdom of Derius isn't just going to sit by and do nothing" she paused and at that moment the officials could feel their foreheads covered in cold sweat due to the overwhelming aura of the furious queen.
"I have released our special royal army and falcon warriors to take a patrol of the neighboring kingdoms to find the culprit since this was done outside the city.
Our own official army will be responsible for looking for him here.
I know that everyone gathered here is related to royal families of other kingdoms, so you better check with them" she said these words with authority and firmness that if this officials weren't already used to her voice they might have broken down due to the intense pressure.
Why were they so afraid? An unknowing person might be curious. The queen of Derius was the only ruling queen at this time but she had established an awesome and fierce image of herself ever since she took the throne. Liz was a warrior princess during her father rule and during her teen age she had shown no interest in the throne until her life underwent drastic changes which made her work towards her future as the queen.
Even though she had some sour experiences in her youth royal officials were still willing to follow her as they had been deeply loyal to her father.
She had been known throughout the seven empires as an impartial ruler. Rewarding those who deserved merits and punishing those that sinned.
Outside the hall, a young woman around seventeen years of age stood with her face in front of the door listening. The guards knew she was eavesdropping but they didn't dare to stop her or even make a sound.
"From our perspective, this wasn't done by a normal assassin group or killer" a voice was heard from the innercourt. The young girl immediately recognized this voice. Actually it wasn't that hard to guess, apart from the prime minister, everyone naturally didn't dare to speak.
The prime minister of Derius who had served four rulers was the oldest and most powerful among the officials.
Outside the Court the girl pursed her lips slightly annoyed at hearing this voice.
"What are you trying to say?" The queen asked facing the old man.
"The method of killing was just too strange for it to be carried out by a normal human" he replied. The young girl seemed to have been set off instantly as she glared at the door
'I KNEW IT!', she thought. How is it that this old man always found a way of antagonizing non-humams?
'So annoying!'
The queen straightened up slowly keeping her gaze fixed on him. There was silence before she signaled for him to continue even though she was starting to hate the direction this conversation was headed.
"We know that there are supernaturals among us and..." he paused and looked at the queen whose look told him that that was the end of that conversation.
"Whatever you want to say are baseless assumptions. The guards in city gates will be increased and they would be searching everyone that leaves and comes in thoroughly. This will be the end of this session" she said rising as everyone bowed slightly.
Outside, the girl heaved a sigh of relief before becoming alert again as she remembered the conversation. The queen seemed to have mentioned that the guards would soon be dispatched. This won't do, she had to leave quickly!
