Ercilia looked anguished but said nothing, choosing to just walk away and leave Delaney behind.
Since then, she had acted slightly on edge around Delaney. Not her fault, though. Ercilia would've certainly felt offended after practically being called a monster, of course.
But as time passed, their argument left a bitter taste to Delaney. She got off the bed and snuck out, doing the usual. Once outside the field, she came across Ercilia, who was busy chopping wood.
With her bare hands. 'The hell?'
Delaney watched, half intrigued and half horrified, as she sliced wood left and right. She had read that trained professionals could do this, but watching Ercilia at that moment was still surreal.
'Were her wounds even healed? There's no way they were.'
Ercilia stopped, raising one of her hands to her face to peer at the blood that seeped through her torn skin. Through the light of the moon, Delaney could see that the bandages had come undone.
