Chapter 24 - To hang out and dry

"What is going on in here?" He found two of his employees fighting in the middle of the lobby.

One thing about running a media company, he learned that it never ran out of drama. He visited today to get some updates on the progress of the company.

Instead, he was not expecting to act as a referee to these two clowns who would not stop clawing at each other. In truth, the other one was just busy fending for himself.

"No, not until I teach this moron some manners." She shouted as she continued, struggling to get free from the man who kept trying to stop her.

She would not allow someone to take advantage of her because she was new to her job. Her parents did not raise a child who would sit and cry in the corner while other people bullied her.

"Break it off." He reached for the one who was about to throw a punch and held her hand. He managed to stop her fist before it landed on the face of the other man.

He certainly did not expect that she would be the aggressive one in the situation. To top that up. He would consider her tough for a skinny girl. Not that he would classify her as small with her average height.

"I did nothing wrong to you." The man tried to defend himself from her verbal and physical attacks. "It was all a misunderstanding."

He would have fought back, but he did not expect that she would react in such a manner. He found himself caught in surprise. Besides, the receptionist kept on holding his arm, preventing him from retaliating.

Then, he saw a glimpse of their boss coming in the main door, and he knew he could not do anything else but protect himself. But he would not allow her to get away from humiliating him in front of his subordinates. He would make her pay.

"Gav, stop it." A man on her other side held on to her other arm, stopping her from creating more damage.

He had seen his boss go crazy when she felt threatened, but he believed this was the worse he had seen her. He pitied their new boss, who appeared disheveled as if attacked by a wild cat.

"Sir, we are sorry about this." Finally, the head of security showed up at the scene upon learning of the commotion. He immediately signaled his security team to secure the chaos and not just stand paralyzed on their spot.

"Have them report to me in my office in an hour when they have cooled down?" He instructed the security officer. "First, have those cuts checked." He pointed to the man who had some bruises and scratches on his face, neck, and hands.

He mentally took note not to mess with this crazy woman he was still holding with his hand. He could not see her entire face because of her messy hair, but he was curious about her.

"Sir, your early meeting is about to start." His assistant reminded him.

He nodded in her direction, acknowledging what she said. Then, shifting his eyes to the woman who was now looking at him with fear in her eyes.

"Please, stop acting like children. This place is a reputable company, and such behavior is not tolerable." The man said, addressing his statement to both.

"Oh, my!" She exclaimed in shock, finally recognizing the man, still holding her arm tightly. But she did not feel the pain as her eyes focused on his face. "You are the big boss."

Suddenly, she was embarrassed by how she had behaved. At the same time, she was fearful of getting fired on the spot for her unruly conduct.

He finally let go of her, stepping a few feet backward when she had stopped struggling. But he stopped to look at the old employee who should be managing the place, then at the new one, who he had seen only now.

"I will expect a valid explanation for this outrageous stunt from the two of you." His tone remained calm, but there was an edge to it that sent chills to the two involved parties. "That is if you still want to keep your jobs."

He warned them, still giving them the chance to explain themselves. He was a fair man, but he would not accept this behavior without a just cause. Else, one of them would be saying goodbye to their job.

"I told you to let it go, Gav. Now, look at what you have done." The man who was still standing beside the girl said. However, the girl remained speechless as she kept staring at the retreating back of their boss.

"Let us go, Miss?" The security questioned her name, still unfamiliar with the new employee. But when she did not answer, he just continued. " We need to bring the two of you to cool off."

He was only following what the boss had ordered.

"I am coming too," Max said, not wanting to leave her on her own. He felt guilty because she only defended him from that abusive boss.

"Damn!" She finally said, waking up from her trance. She still could not believe that her new boss caught her rampaging like an animal on her first day on her job. "What did I do?"

She could already see the disappointment in Robert's eyes once he heard that she had wasted this enormous opportunity because she could not control her temper.

Now, she would lose everything she had worked hard to build. She would never get another position like this after they learned why she did not last a day in her job.

"Don't worry. I will take all the blame. You do not deserve to be fired, out of your dream job just because of me." Max said, feeling sorry for not stopping her before she had gone berserk on the other man.

She did stick her head for him to get this assignment, not accepting the job offered to her unless he came with her. After all, she claimed that she would not have reached this point in her career if not for him.

She declared they would always be a team. She had already proven that at many points in their short career together. "No, you will not. It is my fight. And I will never leave you to hang out and dry." She proclaimed adamantly.
