Chapter 182 - Cursed.

Heidi's body smashed into an apartment. Shaking her head, diminishing the hazy sight plaguing her vision, she slowly sat up. Snow's eyes widened abruptly, barely dodging Ace's imminent fist with acrobatic grace. The floor below his knuckles started crumbling, but even while the platform below him was demolished, the King glared through the smoke with uncaring scarlet orbs targeting his enemy.

Having unraveled her sword, she slashed through the smoke. On the cloud's opposite side, however, Ace was already gone. Her normal pupils spontaneously shrunk upon sensing that deadly aura reappearing behind her before her skull was slammed by Wilder's leg. Uncontrollably crashing through the wall, her rag-doll-like body cracked against the street before inevitably tumbling into a parked car nestled against the curb.

Heidi's back was unnaturally embedded into the stationary vehicle. She quickly shook away the irritating ache plaguing her head and joints, wincing through gritted teeth then pushing her arm back into its socket.

'It's like I can't even touch him, he's so fast. God… how am I supposed to beat someone I can't even register?' Snow's inner thoughts pondered.

She stood up despite her numerous injuries drawing blood. Her short sword's reflective steel shone against the heavens' sun, glistening onto Ace's body peeking out the hole in the apartment.

"Fight me hand-to-hand, you coward!!" Heidi yelled at her redheaded opponent.

"Oh please. You're not even worth my time… worthless bug," Ace's palm extended following his insult.

Heidi jumped off the vehicle, frantically fleeing, legs continually flailing. Her desperate efforts were for naught, the car detonating once the crimson lightning bolt scratched the automobile's outside. She was thrown away courtesy of the explosion's shockwave.

'Bloody Individual.'

The Scarlet King had inexplicably disappeared, leaving nothing in his wake. Her head formerly resting against the concrete gradually raised, shimmering pupils breaking through a hazy vision to stare at her enemy's previous whereabouts. He'd vanished again, this time without her witnessing.

Her eyes locked onto the imminent leg flying through the air, targeting her facial features with his toes' edges. She didn't get the chance to beg for mercy before she was effectively decapitated, her beheaded skull flying from her shoulders to briefly enter the air.

In the same time it took the fight to begin, it'd already climaxed with Heidi's head lost in the wind, making Ace the victor.

After the fight, he took out his sunglasses from his hoodie's pouch and carefully placed the arms over his ears. With shades now hiding Divergence's scarlet eye color, Wilder sighed dejectedly.

"Christ, what a useless fight. I can't believe that's one of the Jester's elite guards," Riot's leader whispered.

Ace wandered down the deserted street uncaringly with hidden hands shoved into his hoodie's pockets. Innocent lives were perishing at this very moment and all the Scarlet King could do was walk. Then, he halted at the end of the road. Affixing his shaded spectacles easily, he peered through the darkened lenses with Eternal Sight and gazed… at the indescribable scenery he was enveloped by. Even when utilizing his advanced retinas, he couldn't believe it. So, instead of remaining idle in shock, he leaped to a rooftop and started standing tall upon landing.

If he thought the distant view of the blimp leaking soldiers from the bottoms was unbelievable, then this horrifying sight was unlike anything ever before seen. Not even fifteen minutes after they'd arrived, Retly's forces had entirely decimated the Evolutionary fighters. It was almost like he was admiring this madness. But taking one look behind those sunglasses revealed the truth of his expression with wide bloodshot eyes.

Unable to contain his disbelief mentally, he subconsciously uttered, "This is like a nightmare…"

A demon pounced onto an Evolutionary flame user, tearing apart their throat with merciless fangs now drenched in blood. Growling to the skies after mutilating its victim, the demon revealed destroyed wings and took to the claws; branding clean claws. Following its mutilation of an airborne Hybrid, its jaw unhinged, splashing hellfire onto the streets below from its throat. The demon's unfortunate targets were ignited with unwavering fire, their skin instantly burning off to reveal their newly-charred skeletons.

"Oi! Demon!" A feminine voice called out to the flying demon.

Both Ace and the monster's heads turned toward the source. Standing completely still with motionless arms, there Kima Myers was; atop a rooftop.

Pointing her fingers forward, Kim's purple pupils released a shine. Roaring upon exiting the shadowy domain, the Beast's mouth opened, spitting multiple bolts of red erasure energy toward the mindless monster.

'Chimera.'

Unexpectedly, the demon managed to flawlessly dodge each incoming projectile. Impressive for a mindless monster.

"Tsk! Looks like I'll be having to do more than just use one of the Beasts!"

Kim flashed her sharp-toothed smirk, jumping from the building she was perched upon then effortlessly landing. The winged chimera she'd earlier summoned released a deafening sonic boom, the watcher Ace instinctively covering his ears. Running along her Beast's back, she formed tiny shadow gateways in her palms, withdrawing a white-metal sword from the dimension. By the time she'd reached the Beast's head, she'd jumped further and dug her blade into the monster's brain.

"Woah, WOAH, WOAH!!"

Thanks to her sword ingrained into the monster's skull, she was essentially stuck to it, wavering around uncontrollably as the demon's diminishing motor functions led to erratic motions. Regardless of how cool it'd be to jump from flying demons and slaughter them while airborne, she had no other choice.

"KON!!"

Her signature marked werewolf jumped past the demon from a mid-air shadow portal. In the same second, it took Kim to blink, the demon had lost half its face and her reliable canine had already reverted to a mere blackened puddle. Once landing onto the street with bent knees and her sword still drawn, Myers thoroughly analyzed her surroundings. Despite her weary feelings, she had to release the feeling. So, she summoned another portal, slipping the white-metal sword into the gateway; hiding her weapon.

"You really gave it to that thing, huh?" Ace's voice invaded her ears.

Kima paused for a half-second. Then, she resumed whatever she was doing; her legs positioning her upright while her purple eyes faced him.

"I knew you were watching–"

Kim hoped to inform her lover and receive a cheeky response. Instead, she was grabbed by her waist, unexpectedly pulled into a tight embrace. His arms hugging her body close to his glanced at him with worried eyes.

"Well, I… I dunno if I should be asking this now but I can't help but be curious. Why… are you hugging me?"

Yet again, he didn't respond. Remaining ever so idle, his limbs remained entangled around her waist. She discovered her immediate assumption of his purposeful ignorance to be false, as the muffled whimpers from his crying sniffled into her clothed shoulder. Her eyes widened slowly before they gradually relaxed, violet irises hidden by eyelids while her fingers stroked through Ace's spiky red hair. He didn't even have to say anything. She had to have already known… what he felt at that moment.

"It'll be okay. We'll be free from this curse… one day soon."

But while Kima was whispering sweet nothings into Ace's ears, another battle was ongoing across the city. One between the Angel Captain Azrael and none other than June. She ran across a rooftop opposite her winged opponent, her continuous sprints generating uncontrollable green lightning. Having inevitably reached the edge, Azrael flew right off; his back turned. Then, swiftly unsheathing a dagger in mid-air, he turned back around and swiped the knife toward her. June easily dodged the projectile, outreaching her hand so her fingers' tips would release green-black ropes.

The threads ensnared the angel's extended arm. Before he could get yanked toward her, he pulled first, yanking her along the rooftop's length; guiding her face to his bloodthirsty knuckles. Amid being yanked toward him, another lightning bolt split apart the heavens—magically disconnecting the blind connecting June and Azrael. Stumbling into another sprint after freeing herself, Convergence's wielder twirled into the air and drop-kicked the Angel Captain across the airspace to smash into a very distant skyscraper.

June's fingers barely managed to catch the rooftop's ledge, looking down from perched beside the structure.

"That guy wasn't so tough," the Wilder sister whispered.

Amid her examining the battlefield, something entered her peripheral, visible via Eternal Sight. She instantly jumped away thanks to her sixth sense, gracefully landing onto a lowered building's summit. She watched from below as the Giants clashed—both representing fundamental necessities formulating the complex New World. Devilish madness incarnated into the Jester's nature and Alex's angelic blood clashed, disregarding the inconsequential ants they unintentionally squashed.

'At that moment, nothing felt real. The very air brushing against my face, flaming flesh's unbearable stench; a fantasy. Yet, while I was surrounded by impossibilities, the very thing my eyes were dead set on… was undeniably reality. What I saw there wasn't what anyone else expected.' June's narrating thoughts overlaid the fight.

Alex barely dodged Icarus's lightning-fast face punch, accidentally sidestepping and crushing a whole building under his foot. Luckily for him, however, he'd managed to catch the Jester's gigantic attack by the wrist. Locked into a position so far behind, the Jude was fortunate to curve his knuckles across the burning air and into Chrollo's demonic face. The very shockwave from that impact sent June's hair awry yet her eyes still sparkled with delight while admiring that scenery…

'What I saw there… was the embodiment of rebellion incarnated into the Angel's fist as he struck the Devil down!'

Trivia: June's Convergence doesn't have any offensive attacks so she just uses her body and the threads to do so instead. Her overall amount of life energy/Vita is lower than Katie's, however, she makes up for it with far more advanced agility and unpredictable swiftness. Her defensive perspective when battling makes her the perfect candidate for the Requiem blood injection.
