Chapter 1 - History

Vampire. This word has many meanings for this word in folklore: One who lives by preying on others. A corpse that leaves its grave at night to drink the blood of the living by biting their necks with long pointed canine teeth. The reanimated body of a dead person believed to come from the grave at night and suck the blood of persons asleep.

However. There are meanings known by all humans and other species; They are creatures that cannot survive without human blood, predators of humans, monsters of the night, and immortal beings that cannot age.

There are three known ways to kill these creatures; Decapitation, stake through their un-beating heart, and direct sunlight. Unfortunately, humans do not possess the necessary strength to kill vampires causing them to roam free, feeding on everyone roaming the dangerous streets at night.

When vampires first came into existence, they were intelligent creatures. They fed discreetly and took care to erase the memories of their victims and hide the fang marks. Humans only knew of their kind in fiction. However, slowly, they started losing themselves in the taste of human blood and one day stopped caring, started killing, and humans became aware of the dangers lurking in the dark.

And that's when Dhampirs came to show themselves. Dhampirs are hybrids rejected by the godly kind and had been forced to stay hidden, blending in with humans. Being half demigod and half-human was something demigods and gods could not accept as a deity and forced Dhampirs into human society.

Dhampirs were the reason humans had managed to hold on to their pitiful lives and slowly push vampires to a corner. If not for them, humans would have gone extinct, and Dhampirs became known as the protectors of humans.

The name Dhampir came from merging the 'D' from demigod, the 'H' from half and vampire without the 'V' and 'E.' Whichever human came up with that name was truly a smart one and one to be praised, but no one knew who started it, it was just a name that spread and got popular and before anyone knew it, it had become official.

The Dhampirs grew closer to permanently getting rid of vampires. It was only a matter of time. However, the goddess Hel, who created vampires couldn't stand to see her creations being destroyed by that of a minor god. To prevent this, she created another vampire. "As humans have protectors, so shall vampires.

But this was no ordinary vampire.

Unlike all her other creations, the goddess had given this creation half of her powers, her power over death. Her first vampires were immortal and could live forever. However, nature always has a balance, so not even a god could be a true immortal. With decapitation, even a god would die immediately.

With that in mind, Hel used a forbidden technique, one that gods cannot use on themselves and are forbidden from ever using it, and gave the ultimate immortality to this vampire and now, not even decapitation can kill it. She didn't care that she was creating a being that she wouldn't be able to control.

With the creation of the vampire king, Order was restored among vampires, and slowly humans barely noticed them anymore. Barely. They were still there, feeding. However, they left fewer traces, less chaos. It was soon known everywhere of the vampire king's existence.

As always, though, nature has its balance. It created another being, a being that would be on the human's side with equal strength to that of the vampire king, but only a select few knew of this.

Aphrodite, the Goddess of love had always been the best friend of the Goddess of death and did not hesitate to help control the innate animal instincts of vampires. She gave them a distraction, someone to love, to care for, a mate. And not even the king will be spared.

But this was not all the twists of the world. A secret that the Goddesses' Aphrodite and Hel kept hidden will soon be revealed to the world, a secret that will decide the fate of humans and vampires alike.
