Pale white face and dark hair covering the bandaged forehead. His filled brows formed into a frown as he looked down at his plastered arm handing down his neck. Kiara's eyes twitched at the sight of the guy. Her jaw almost dropped and she turned her head back to the police officer and asked.
"What did you say he was here for?" She asked in a baffled tone.
"We caught him during our raid at a motel. Many drug dealers were arrested." He was still speaking when Kiara bent forwards on the table with shock. "Drug dealer? He…" she shuddered. "And that at a mo…motel?" Kiara felt like someone had pumped air into her head causing her head to spin.
Kiara's heart came to her throat and her heart tightened.
The inspector saw the change in her complexion and stood up. "Please have a seat, I think you have gotten something wrong." he sounded concerned. Kiara took a seat as per his order and waited for him to explain farther.
"What I was saying is that we raided a motel because we had intel on them but while we arrested the culprits we also caught him."
"So you're saying he is not a drug dealer?" Kiara felt slightly better after hearing that.
"Well we did some tests on him and he turned out to be innocent and completely irrelevant to the case…"
Kiara heaved a sigh of relief but what she was going to hear next was something she would have never expected.
"So why is he still here? Shouldn't he be set free?"
The inspector looked at her with a little surprise. "We would do that but we can't set him free without a warning. After all he is an underaged boy…in a place like a love motel is a bit." His words completely got muted.
'Underage? Did I hear it right?' Kiara's ear started ringing with that word, Slowly numbness started to grow over her,
"Miss, are you listening to me?" Inspector Josh snapped his fingers in front of her eyes as to bring her out to reality. Kiara snapped out of her thighs and blinked a few times before nodding. "Yes, Yes I understand."
"Great, Now sign here and you can take him away." He pushed a file towards her. Kiara's fingers had paralysed and she held the pen with too much difficulty. When she was finally done with it she hurried out of the office. SHe had started to feel suffocated all of a sudden and couldn't help but take in deep breaths. "Why does it feel like this?" She choked.
From behind her the boy walked out of the police office with a guilty face. He stood behind her with an apologetic look and spoke. "I am sorry I got you into trouble but I had no one else to call." His voice was boiling with guilt.
Kiara's heart started to tighten up. "Gosh this is making me angry," She huffed out heavily before looking at him. She opened her mouth hto say something but then closed it again as she felt that she was no one to meddle in his business. Something bitter hard boiled up into her throat and continued to crawl up into her mouth. After gulping in the bitterness she spoke in a disdainful voice. "If next time you decide to go to a motel… Don't get caught! If you get caught don't drag me into that mess. I have more important things to do than to take care of a teen like you. DOn;t make me regret my decision to save you." She spat those words with immense hate and anger. She couldn't tell why she was being like this but she couldn't help but want to say something hurtful to him.
Kiara held onto the belt of her bag and started to walk away into the night full of frustration. "Haah!! Agh!!" She tried to vent out her frustration but the burden on her chest wasn't lifting. She punched it to relieve the heavy weight. After nothing worked she sat on a bench by the pavement and held her head in her hand. "A motel?! Does that make sense?" She grumbled to herself. For a few moments she sat there depressed but then she thought.
"Why do I care? Am I free to waste my precious brain cells on someone I met two days ago?" She asked herself in a serious tone and looked forward with determination. " I don;t care, I am hungry and I need to eat something before I go home and I need to get some sleep so I can be fresh for my work tomorrow! I don't have time for anything else." Her eyes fixed on the bakery before her eyes. SHe fixed her hair and stood up before walking into the blissful place with a wide smile.
At the counter there was a young girl with a cute dimple on her cheek. She was smiling at her and as she approached the counter the girl cheerfully spoke.
"Welcome dear customer, WHat would you like to try?"
Kiara looked at the display, all sorts of mouthwatering delights were looking at her keenly. SHe randomly onted at many things and asked the girl to pack them. The girl was a bit shocked but she didn't show it on her face and continued to put the sweets in the box and started packing them one by one. After a few moments the girl had filled five huge boxes and paced them on the glass surface.
"Will you be paying by cash or card?" She asked.
Kiara handed over the card and lifted her purchase. After the transaction she walked out of the bakery with an empty gaze and all her determination had flushed away and she started to walk in the direction where she had come from.
"Why am I like this?" SHe whined while crawling back to the place where she had left the boy alone. She knew it was useless to go there as he might have already left the ace but she wouldn't have felt at ase unless she had seen it with her own eyes. And surprisingly she saw the boy sitting on a bench on the pavement that led into the police office. HE was looking down at his hand just like he was doing when he was at the police station. Kiara closed her eyes and frowned at herself before going closer to him. She stood in front of him and placed the boxes beside him.
"Eat this!" She spoke in a rude tone as sh edidn;t want to give him the wrong idea. He looked up with surprise.
"You?"
"DOn't be surprised like that! It was you who dragged me into this. EAt this and go home, Stop fooling around on the streets and especially not the motels!" She lectured him like a mother.
He looked down with guilt.
"I said eat!" She Spoke again and the boy nodded obediently before picking up the box with his one working hand and tried to open it. But it was a failed attempt every time. Kiara was already at the edge of her wits, picked it up from his lap and opened it for him. She picked a box for herself as well and sat by his side. She wicked up the fruit tart and fetched on it silently. The boy was having difficulty eating it but he didn't complain. After a few moments in silence the boys spoke, almost scaring Kiara.
"I went to the hotel because the rent per night there was cheaper than other places." He spoke in a low voice but Kiara was caught by surprise. She looked at him with wide eyes as he spoke to her.
"So what I am saying is that you don't have to feel bad for saving me," He mumbled.
Kiara at this moment had stopped eating as she suddenly felt guilty of her words from a while ago.
"Oh, I didn't mean it that way." She hung her head.
"Thank you for this, I really hope I can pay you off your debt someday." His lips formed into a line and his fist tightened up. It seems as if he was holding onto his tears. Kiara looked away as she didn't want him to feel ashamed of crying.
" I will not tell you that everything will be alright because that would be a lie, But what I would tell you is that If you think life is being hard on you alone. You are wrong. Everyone is suffering, you are no different." Kiara stuffed the last bite of the tart into her mouth before getting up. She patted her hands and fixed her bag around her shoulder before speaking again.
"If you ever find yourself on the street without anyone.Call me, I will give you a place to live in but don't let me find you in the police station again." Kiara added and proceeded to leave.
"Is giving you a call obligatory?" He spoke desperately, making Kiara stop and look around with a dumbfounded look. She saw him already standing up and looking at her with a pleading gaze.
"What do you mean?"
"I am on the street… And I am alone." His eyelashes fluttered painfully making Kiara feel as if her heart had been stabbed mercilessly.
