Rukelion found himself alone with General Pace—one of the few men who was able to regularly meet with the king—and wished more than anything that he could light him up like a torch. That wouldn't end well for him so he refrained with great difficulty.
"You wanted to speak with me, sir?" he asked innocently.
The general answered his question with a question. "Why did you join the military, May? I've heard through the grapevine that you became a first-rank soldier the moment you enlisted and were put directly on the Silver Wolf Squad.
"That sort of thing hasn't happened around here for over a decade. Where did you receive your training? You must have trained before coming so don't try and lie to me about it being a natural talent."
