Chapter 1 - Prologue

Let me break this fourth wall for a bit. Hi folks! This old bone's name is Morbius - Morbius Hunt. If you are reading this, then it means that you had stepped inside my world for an itsy bit. While you are staring at your strange magic box-shaped devices, here I am writing with a pen, inkstone, ink slab, and parchment paper. What I am writing is my very own story - my very own legend that will turn the world upside down... hopefully.

To catch your shit off guard, believe me, or not, I am an immortal. I just knew it yesterday though. I am so focused on my job that I only realized my immortality after 4000 years. Am I stupid? Nope. At least I believe I am not.

By the way, Morbius Hunt is my 40th name. And for every 100 years, I change my name for a new one.

HAAAAALT!

Before you think of a plot hole regarding me changing my name (despite being ignorant of my immortality) - it is the oldest king's command that I heed until today. I just realized the reason for such a confusing command. Perhaps the old king knew about my immortality.

For the past 4000 years, nobody knew about my existence. It is as if I am just a mere figure in front of the castle gate. Well, it is understandable, because I am a castle guard.

My liege changed several times already during my life. From good monarchs to rotten apples, I have been serving them. Well, it is not as if my presence matters to them. My small presence made it easier for me to evade suspicion.

Oh! I forgot - world-building. Fuck world-building! Nothing interesting from my side. There are bricks everywhere. Large wooden gates with metal frames serve as the entrance. If you look up, you could see the sky. My living quarter is as boring as the castle walls. The only difference is that I have a bed, a chair, a table, and a shelf.

On a bigger scale of things, the whole kingdom is ruled by the king, duh. The king is aided by his prime ministers of different sectors of the government. I don't really know much about this kingdom albeit being a castle guard for a long time. My world is confined in front of the castle gate and my living quarter. This is the case since my childhood years.

If you compare my life to a 100-year-old sage, despite my old age, I have almost no attainment aside from the pile of blue stones I have collected inside my fancy magical-whatsit ring. The ring? That is my heirloom since I was a boy. I call it magical because it sucks anything I touch at will. The bluestones? I don't know. They are beautiful so I collected them outside the living quarters every single day for 4000 years.

Well, these stones have no monetary value at all, they say. So I took the liberty to collect them since the source of the stones seems to be inexhaustible.

Aside from collecting weird stones, I also save my wage of 5 silver coins every week that it became a habit of mine for 4000 years. I lived my whole life munching some freebie hard-ass bread to save my money.

I also trained my body with the crudest cultivation manual in the kingdom which is meant for foundation building. If I am not wrong it is the "Foundation for Dummies" manual that one of the soldiers lent me. For what reason he lent me that book, I have long forgotten. I trained with that same book over and over again. Even though it seems useless, I trained it for more than 3900 years. The result? I don't really know.

That's it. That sums my life for 4000 years. For 4000 years, nothing eventful happened. I guess it is time to retire from this castle and see the world.
