"Do you even know how much shame you put our family into because you mindlessly went out there and demanded the son of the Alpha to answer you?!" My father continued. "Why do you think that a latent wolf like you would get a proper answer from him? Look! He's already mated with a human who is much better than you."
At first, I was going to let him continue, but hearing him say that a human was much better than me, I couldn't stop myself from glaring at him.
"Did I ever wish that I wanted to be a latent wolf? I didn't. I never did. I was born like this so why can't everyone just accept that!" I pushed him away, making him let me go from his grip. He stumbled a few steps backward and before he could grab me again and slap me, I slipped inside the house and locked the door to my room.
"Open the door, you mutt!"
I covered my head with a pillow, trying to mute the loud rapping sounds of my father's fists banging against the door. I know I could've run towards the forest and be surrounded by tall trees, but that would expose me to other pack members who are taking their night trip to the forest, and my father could pursue me in his beast form.
After a minute, my father finally stopped. He couldn't continue banging his fists against the door. He knew he would have to pay for the repairs of my door and money was something our family was lacking for years because of his gambling habits.
My father might disagree, but he preferred to think that we still have enough money to keep feeding our family of three for years. Born from a wealthy family, my father had his entire life given to him in a beautifully wrapped present. His parents donated enough money to support the pack in the past when the previous Alpha was struggling to keep our territory from the other Alphas eyeing it.
And in return, the previous Alpha gave my grandfather a few hectares of lands to his name. Now that they were long dead, you would have thought that we shouldn't be struggling with money since we could use that land and sell it. But my father already wasted them.
He used them as payment whenever he lost a game. And in less than ten years, all the money and lands that were under my father's name vanished into thin air before his daughters could put good use on them.
When I finally got the silence that I so longed for, I didn't stop the tears I failed trying to hold back in front of my father. I gasped for air, trying to not scream and destroy the silence I deserved after what happened in the pack center. I tasted how sour my tears were, felt my heart tightening and allowing myself to cry for my wolf for losing her mate before she could reveal herself and claim what's hers.
"Why? Why does it have to be me?" I heard myself whimper as the scene of Liam moving to hug Avery kept on playing in my eyes. The words he said in front of everyone else kept on piercing my heart.
It was until after I heard my sister calling my name outside my room that I realized I cried myself to sleep.
"Sis? Are you there? Please answer me." Isabelle said outside the door.
I shifted in my bed, groggily and tiredly sat up. I didn't want to answer, but since my sister might panic and call for help from the pack, I saved myself from furthering the shame I will cause to myself.
"Just a second. I need to change." I stood up from my bed and started to walk towards the closest. Then, I took off the shirt I was wearing and got into a new one. The sweat and tears that got absorbed by my shirt made me feel horrible.
"What's wrong?" I asked Isabelle after opening the door to her.
"I'm only checking if you're alright. I'm sorry about what happened earlier." she told me.
I shook my head, "Why would you apologize for something you didn't do?" Then, I stopped and couldn't stop my laugh. "Oh, right. You're best friends with Avery."
Ever since Avery stayed in the Crimson Pack, everyone in the pack became close to her. Like glue, they were attracted to her amiable personality and graceful walk. Even my sister became one of her best friends in the pack.
I could even remember that last week, Isabelle picked a fight with me because I told Avery she didn't belong to the pack. That a human should go back to where they belong. I knew I was being bitchy about her staying in our territory, but who wouldn't anyway?
She was all over my mate and now, she completely took him away from me.
"So much for our sisterly love, Belle." I said to her as I walked away from my room and from her.
"Did you think I wanted this to happen to you? Lizzie, you know that is not true!" She took hold of my arm and made me turn around.
"I know." I told her as I met her eyes. "We're the same. We didn't want this to happen. But unlike you, I did my best to stop this from happening."
Shrugging her hand off my arm, I walked down the stairs and didn't look back. I didn't dare look back and see the face of my sister, who looked just like our mother.
Her blue-green eyes that shined like the purest aquamarine you could ever mine in the world, and with her blonde hair, Isabelle did not only looked just like our mother, she could even make any man she wanted to kneel before her and ask her what she wanted him to do just to get her to smile.
And unfortunately, I was the opposite of her. My amber eyes were the only thing that I had in similarity with my father. My hair, however, was darker than all of my family member.
