Chereads / Her Journey to Conquering the World / Chapter 4 - Assassinated.

Chapter 4 - Assassinated.

Ling Yue spent that evening exercising.

She ran twenty laps around the huge yard, did push-ups, went over some martial-art forms from her previous life, did some Tai-Chi, and almost fainted because of fatigue.

She was fuming over how weak this body was, and over how fast her stamina ran out.

She was an adept fighter in her past life. Being this vulnerable scared her. How easy she could die, under the hands of a Chi user. It'd be like stomping on an ant.

Night soon came and everyone were fast asleep.

The moon shone brightly overhead, no clouds in the clear sky. All was quiet except for the frequent rustling of the blossoms….

Ling Yue's eyes snapped open, thick killing intent lurking beneath the dark depths. Her eyes shone with clarity, as if she hadn't been asleep at all.

She had felt a presence in her yard.

She lay still in her bed, holding her breath.

A thin mist crawled its way into her room.

Sleeping gas.

Shadows flashed outside her windows. This was an easy kill, or so they thought.

A person dressed in black, his face covered, pushed open the door and unbiddenly strolled inside. In his hands gleamed a longsword.

Sweat rolled down Ling Yue's forehead. To think her life would be threatened on her first night at this world…

The assassin lifted the silk curtains leading to her bed chamber. His eyes widened as he saw the empty bed.

Shouldn't the Imbecile be sleeping---

Before he could finish his thought, his neck felt a sting, and down he fell, dead.

The soft thud of his body notified his comrades.

They exchanged looks, sneering: "Killing this imbecile shames me, she can't even put up a fight!"

"Worthless trash, I wonder why there are people willing to spend money on her life…"

"They could've killed her themselves! Wasting our time like this---"

Ling Yue stood behind the door and waited patiently. Her lips curved mockingly. Talk while you can, idiots (`皿´#).

A minute passed without a sound coming from Ling Yue's bedroom.

One man grumbled and picked up his sword: "Why did he take so long?! That bastard, did he jerk off to the imbecile's body?"

Others leered: "I'd be disgusted! To think our comrade had that kind of interest…"

"I'll go look for him, tell him to hurry the hell up!" The man snickered as he entered the room. He turned his head, and a needle was pointed right in between his eyes.

His throat clogged. He forgot how to react. Beads of cold sweat trickled down his back.

"You…" He swallowed. His hands shook, and his sword fell to the ground.

Clang!

The others instantly snapped their heads to the room's direction.

"What… Those bastards, what're they doing in there?"

They were more aware now. They had noticed that something was not right. They crouched with their swords in their hands.

One man lost patience and kicked open the bedroom door, yelling: "What trick are you pulling on us …"

A shadow glided past them, faster than they could comprehend.

Ding!

A sharp sound ripped through the air, as if an arrow had been fired.

The poison needle found its target in an assassin's eye. As he fell, others frantically gathered themselves for contact.
