Kaz leans back against the brick wall, staring into the sky. His eye, void of emotion, blinks as if he is coming back from a memory. He sighs as he brings his head back down to look at his left arm, or what was left. There was an old T-shirt wrapped around a bloody stump, the smell alone could cause him to vomit if he had anything in his stomach. He swatted at a few flies, with his frail and thin remaining arm.
Kaz pulls his cup to him so see how much money he has received.
"I spaced out…." Kaz mumbles as he glances at the passerbyers wondering who could have taken some of his change as he emptied the cup into his pocket.
Kaz is homeless and disabled, missing an eye, arm and having a bad leg, which has put a stop to almost any aspiration he could have. His stomach rumbles as the smell of the nearby pizza shop wafts into his nose. Kaz barely manages to pull himself off the ground, balancing on his left leg, since his right is unusable. Kaz had used the dumpster outside the shop to pull himself up and brace against as he sees if there is anything edible inside.
A can hits Kaz in the forehead.
"I thought I told you to stay out of my damn trash! Get the fuck out of here before I call the police to take your ass away!"
The owner of the pizza store had thrown his open beer can at Kaz and knocked him down. Kaz has been chased off many times by the man but comes back since he can't make it far enough on his own to survive somewhere else. Kaz lays on the concrete with a purple knot slowly forming at the place that was hit with the can.
"You have 10 minutes, when I come back, you better be gone!"
The man storms off back into the store after telling Kaz off. Kaz continues to lay there, slightly soaked in beer, closing his one eye, resigning himself to his current situation. Some minutes later, steps resound off the pavement and echo into Kaz's ear.
'I guess the cops are here to take me away, at least there is food in prison.'
The footsteps stop next to Kaz and something lands on the ground next to his head. Kaz doesn't react, expecting the worst, until the footsteps start to trail away. Kaz opens his eye to see a man in a trenchcoat and a fedora like he was from an old detective movie move away from him. Kaz then looks next to him to see what looks like a book. Kaz grabs the book with his hand and looks at the title.
[URS]
'What did that weirdo give me?'
Kaz rolls to his side and struggles to open the book with the same arm he props himself up with to see only blank pages. As he went to close the book thinking it was thrown away with him, where he touched the book slowly fell apart as if it was decaying rapidly, slowly turning the whole book into dust. Kaz continued looking at the dust in confusion until it suddenly shot into his facial orifices. Kaz falls to his back from his side gasping and panicking, as he can feel something spread through his being. As the sensation spread further, he felt a burning on his stub, eye and bad leg. He felt as if he had been attacked with acid. He struggled to move but he had no energy at this point.
'This must be how I die.'
Kaz gave up, he didn't struggle anymore. The feeling of burning became so overbearing that he couldn't comprehend it, his nerves shut down on him as the agony got to the point of numbing him. He could then hear a crack and feel a jolt in his shoulder and leg. He then felt his muscles in his face tense, then everything stopped.
'Am I dead?'
Kaz blinked and opened his eyes.
'What's happening?'
Kaz sat up, as if his body had somehow been instilled with energy, he looked around noticing how improved his vision had become. He went to touch his face with his hands, then realized he had an arm where the stub was.
[Welcome to the Unlimited RPG System]
Kaz continued sitting in a stupified expression, unable to process that somehow his body regrew his eye, his arm and seemingly stopped the pain in his leg.
"I thought I told you to-" The pizza shop owner came out again to try and chase off Kaz but starred with a confused and somewhat angry expression on his face. "Just because the last bum vacated this lot doesn't mean another one can move it, I will give you this one warning to get out of here before I press charges for loitering."
The owner walked off going back into the shop with a grunt. Kaz hadn't moved his gaze even when the shop owner came out. Kaz had been staring at the puddle next to him looking at his appearance. His appearance seemed different. His cheeks were filled out, his acne cleaned up. His eyes had a deeper hazel color to them than before, like life had literally filled them. His jawline seemed stronger, he felt as if he was in a foreign body.
'What the fuck happened?'
Kaz stood up, testing his leg's strength and doing a few stretches.
'Have I finally lost it? Is this real?'
Kaz then realized something was lingering in the peripheral of his vision. When he focused on it, he noticed an exclamation mark with a pulsing yellow light. After focusing on it a bit, a screen popped up in front of him with a message.
[Hello! You have been lucky enough to be chosen to receive this gift! I will go through the quick rundown of what has transpired! Please sit back and enjoy the explanation]
Suddenly, Kaz's vision seemed to darkened as he felt the world around him seemingly dissipate along with his mental being. Then an almost comical cartoon world formed, with many types of beasts and dragons in cell-shading art style. He regained feeling in his limbs and noticed he seemed to have a staff and robes on, but wasn't controlling his actions.
[This is the Unlimited RPG system, where reality becomes somewhat like your own game, you can choose however you want the world to work for you in this system, as long as you can comprehend the ideas.]
Kaz flinched mentally as he felt the heat of dragon breath getting close to him before the world disappeared again, revealing a new world with mountains in rivers in an eastern asian style of drawing and this time Kaz was in the middle of a group of students sitting and cultivating while a seemingly ancient man was speaking wisdom he couldn't comprehend.
[The system will evolve with you as you grow to best suit the path you choose, whether you choose to be a noble and honorable student of a world class monk or some psychotic criminal.]
The world shifted again changing to a dystopian futuristic city with flying cars, robots and cybernetically enhanced people. Kaz was fighting with some glowing bladed knife against a red eyed cyborg that had mantis like blades coming out of his arms.
[This system can lead you to different worlds that differ vastly from your own which you could conquer.]
The world shifted back to Earth as Kaz knew it, but from a somewhat ethereal perspective which allowed him to see the history and happenings of the entire world to this point. Kaz could first see all the love and happiness of families, friends, festivals and celebrations until it phased into war and bloodshed, parents holding their children as they die crying, as well as kids crying as parents breath their last breath.
[Or you could decide to use your advantages to save your current world and solve the problems that others would have to suffer with like you have.]
The world flashes to a view of a teenage boy sitting in a dull room within a foster home with a void look on his face looking down at a girl who laid lifelessly in a puddle of her own blood. Finally Kaz was brought back to his body sitting up in the same parking lot next to the pizza store.
[With that, the explanation of the system is concluded, if you have any questions I will be able to answer them if it is seen as the right moment. This system is already a huge advantage, so there won't be any handouts here! You may use the system however you wish, whether you want to help people or kill them, doesn't matter. Again, welcome to the Unlimited RPG System!]
The window disappeared along with the voice that had been sounding in his mind and Kaz just continued staring off.
'What the fuck is going on?' thought Kaz.
