Chereads / Nia the Grand High Witch / Chapter 3 - Chapter 2

Chapter 3 - Chapter 2

September 17, 1788

Dear diary, my name is Antonia Grusu but everyone calls me Nia. My aunt is taking care of a boy named Dimitri, he is the one who gave me my nickname He is 17 years old and just went to train to become a guard. I just turned 14 today and mother and father gave me a journal to write my days event in. I have an older sister named Alina who is 3 years older than me. She goes to town for classes, but I must be homeschooled because of my eyes and hair. Alina has normal long blonde hair to her rear end, hazel eyes, and a nice skin color. I have platinum blonde hair to my knees; I always keep it in a fishtail braid or a bun with a bang. My eyes are light grey, they are so light they almost look white and that scares some of the townspeople and kids. My parents don't want me to be accused of being a witch. They say I take after my great grandmother; she had the same hair and eyes and was extremely beautiful, but she was accused of witchcraft and had to leave her hometown. My parents live in her hometown, we aren't wealthy, but we have money I guess, Alina says at least we aren't starving. There is a family that stay down the road from us, we are friends with the kids. Well sort of friends with their son Victor, he gives me the creeps. He's 18 and always stares at me when he come to our house with Alina and his sister Viviana after classes. Alina and his sister are best friends and the same age but have completely different personalities. Victor always finds his way to me no matter what. I have told my mother about it, but she thinks I'm paranoid, but I just don't like him.

I went to town with mother and Alina today, father was working. A few times I saw Victor following us around or popping up where we were, staring at me. It made me feel uncomfortable and finally my mother noticed Victor and said she would talk to his mother tomorrow. I really hope he leaves me alone, Alina started teasing me calling me his girlfriend. I hate when she teases me about Victor, I really don't like him as a boyfriend or not even a friend. It's something about him that makes my skin crawl, I don't know if it's the way he looks at me or the fact that he follows me around everywhere. Hopefully the talk that my mother and his mother have will stop him or at least give me a little space.

Good news, Victor's parents are sending him away to his uncles in the regions in the West of Romania to train and get married. They said his obsession with me is not healthy and he needs structure and discipline. Victor was so angry that he burned down his house as well as their servant quarters in his rage, screaming I'm the only one for him. He cursed his parents as well as mine. The hatred he had in his eyes scared the hell out of me, I could've sworn I saw his eyes turn black for a split second. I'm just glad that he's gone and will leave me alone from now on, even though some misery came out of it. Victor promised he will be back for me, but his parents said that with time he will forget about me and find a wife. After all the excitement Aunt Sophie came by with her guards to talk to my parents about today's events. I thought Dimitri would be with her, but I forgot that he's training and will be gone for a couple of years. I'm kind of glad he's gone; he always teases me, and it really gets on my nerves. I don't see why Alina has a crush on him, she's always talking about his blue eyes or his sexy smile...ewe….

I haven't written here in a while because so much has been going on in my life. Mother let me go to classes with Alina and I'm loving it. Mother had to go away with father for a few months and has left my Aunt Sophie in charge of us. Aunt Sophie is always like a second mother to me, she's so nice and I don't think I ever heard her raise her voice. I have had a lot more freedom from her, I even made some friends there. First there is Mia, she's 14 and has the same teacher as me. She has beautiful long black hair and green eyes; I really wish I have black hair. Tyler is my second friend; her father wanted a boy so badly that he already had her name picked out and when she was born, he kept the name. Tyler has short auburn hair and brown eyes. She's more of a tomboy and her father had her learn everything from fencing to karate. Alina is upset and blames me because Viviana was sent to her uncle too because her parents had to rebuild their house after what Victor did. Her parents have been staying in our guesthouse and I don't mind but sometimes I feel his mother staring at me for some reason every now and then. Their house is almost done, right before the snow gets too bad. The only negative thing about that is that Victor might return when they return home.

I have so much to write I don't know where to begin...

"Hurry up Nia we have to be there before the guest, Alina needs to hurry too", Aunt Sophie complained. Aunt Sophie is throwing a party and it must be important because my parents came back from their travels to attend it, even Dimitri supposed to be here/ I put on my silver dress my parents brought me from abroad and put my hair in a bun. I stepped out of my room and went to Aunt Sophie, "See Aunt Sophie, it didn't take me that long, unlike Alina I don't need that much makeup", I said teasingly. Aunt Sophie smiled as she guided me to the mirror, "There's nothing wrong with a little makeup, Nia. You are a natural beauty but a little won't hurt''. Most girls my age already started wearing makeup, but I only need lip-gloss because everything else is too heavy. She gently applied my makeup as I sat there patiently. When she was done, I looked in the mirror and couldn't believe my eyes, I was so beautiful I couldn't believe it. At that moment Aunt Sophie came up behind me with a beautiful old necklace, "Every young woman should have something to cherish''. She placed it around my neck and gave me a big hug, "When I do get married and have children, I pray that my daughter will be like you Nia". I smiled and thanked her, then I started to examine it when Alina walked up, "Hey no fair, I only got a ring and she got a necklace", as she pouted. "Be grateful for what you have Alina", Aunt Sophie said while over to her and frowned. "Alina, I told you to put your hair up in a bun, we are going to be so late". Aunt Sophie put up Alina's hair in a bun very quickly and applied her makeup. Once we went downstairs to the ball room to meet the guest. I did not want to stand by Aunt Sophie and Alina all night, so I excused myself to the bathroom and walked away. I heard Alina complaining when I walked away but I didn't care, I just needed to get out of there and get some fresh air. I've always hated attending these types of parties where I must dress up like a princess and act so privileged. When I grow up and get married, I'm leaving this town, this area and live a happy quiet life. I ended up in the garden gazing at the stars they are so beautiful, when I heard a familiar voice, "So this is where you disappeared to. Your aunt and parents are looking for you". I turned around and the only thing I saw was his blue eyes shining in the moonlight, I see now what Alina was talking about. "I had to get out of there, they were smothering me". I looked down because I felt myself blushing at him, I didn't know why. I've been around Dimitri ever since I can remember and I never felt anything for him, I know he has been gone for a couple of years, but I didn't miss him that much. He grabbed my hand and started to pull me out of the garden, "Come on, you shouldn't be out here alone". This is the Dimitri I remember, bossy and demanding. I tried to stop walking but he kept dragging me until I tripped over the stone path and fell. He stopped walking then attempted to help me up, but I smacked his hand away, "Don't, Dmitri, just don't". He looked surprised as I stood myself up and dusted myself off, "You got my dress dirty and my hair is messed up now, bastard!". He reached and attempted to fix my hair, "Your hair looks fine", He looked me up and down which made me feel a little uncomfortable, "Your dress looks fine too". He rubbed my cheek and when I looked up at him there was a look that I never saw in his eyes before. I knew he was going to try to kiss me, why me? Alina has been in love with him since I can remember, she will kill me. I suddenly ran away from him and went to my parents and Aunt Sophie. I noticed that Alina wasn't there and started scanning the room and did not see her. "Where is Alina?" I was still looking around for her. Aunt Sophie's lips spread wide with a smile, "She has a suitor. She went for a walk with him". I was shocked to say the least, she always talked about marrying Dimitri or someone with money if she couldn't have him. I nervously stood there listening to Aunt Sophie and mom talk about her suitor and his family. They also mentioned they couldn't wait until I have a suitor. The one thing that I didn't understand was that most girls get married starting at 13 or 14. Alina and I are of age, but my parents always said we had to wait until we were at least 17, I never understood why. I was standing there when a very handsome guy came over to talk to me. He asked to take me for a walk and before I could respond, my mother interrupted him and rejected him. I was going to say no anyway. He looked so defeated when he walked away and turned to look at me once more. Once the night wined down, Dimitri walked over and told my mother and aunt that he would escort me back to my room. I tried to decline but he didn't listen to me, he grabbed me by my wrist and pulled me toward the door. I dug my feet into the ground and yanked my hand away from him, "I can see myself to my own room Dimitri". He turned to me and when he did, I almost lost my breath when our eyes connected. "Nia, we don't have time to throw a tantrum", rolling his beautiful, blue eyes. He thought I was throwing a tantrum, I'm about to show him a tantrum. I gave him a big smile, "Thank you for your concern, Dimitri, but I can see myself back to my own room." I turned around to walk away and I felt two strong hands on my waist as I was lifted over his shoulder. I kicked and screamed as he started chuckling, "Nia no matter how hard you try, I will always get my way with you". I stopped moving and started thinking about all the other time this has happened. Why in the hell does he pick on me so much? Ever since we were younger, he always picked on me and not Alina or no one else. Once we reached my room, he put me down without saying a word and stared at me. I felt a little uncomfortable and tried to turn around to go into my room when he grabbed my arm, spun me around and held me in a hug. "I wanted to wait until your parents gave me permission but now", he sighed. He ran his fingers through the bun and took the pins out so my hair and ran his finger through it, "I like your hair better like this". I was trying to understand what in the hell was happening. Did Dimitri really like me? Or was he picking on me again. I pulled myself away trying to build up the courage to look him in his face without blushing. "Dimitri what are you saying?", I said in a low voice. I finally got the courage to look at him and I swear I finally realized how handsome he was, my heart skipped a beat. "I have an important mission and then I have to go through my final training. I want you to wait for me Antonia, and when I come back, I will make you, my wife!" and before I could respond he pinned me against my door, kissing me, catching me off guard. At first, I couldn't believe what was happening, but I thought about this being my first kiss and it was with Dimitri out of all people. I suddenly pushed him away and gave him a hard smack to his face, then I ran in my room as fast as I could and slammed my door. In utter shock while I undressed and put my pajamas on, still thinking about Dimitri.
