Two years had come and gone. Within that time, I had learned more about my gifts and how to use them. My father was elated at the promising level and control I had over my abilities. He once told me that, if I kept training, I could become the strongest next to him. At the time I was happy, but, only one thing had my full attention. These last two years had been quite lonely without Suka around. She said that if I still had feelings for her after two years, she would accept them. If she only knew how much they had grown in her absence. I now stood at the front gates of Serburus Magic Academy.
The school was quite large, but it had to be, to house its some three thousand students. Locating Suka would take some time. If only I had made the Vampyre Pact with her two years ago. If I could find her, I would ask her to form it with me. The pact was the last thing I had learned from my father before coming here. When a vampyre finds their signifigant other, they form a pact with them. This consists of both parties biting each other in a place others can see. It is the same as exchanging rings. This also allows vampyres to sense each other anywhere in the world and come to them if they need it.
I had barely walked past the gates when I heard it. "You have alot of gall to show your face around here, one eyed." Really?! Don't they know it's the first day? Do they have nothing better to do than start to push around others? The voice I heard came from the side of the school. I wasn't about to leave a fellow student to deal with whatever was going on alone.
"I'm quite suprised that they let a failure like you in here."
Now I was getting angry. What was this guys' problem? "Hey, cut it out," I said as I came around the corner. I took in the scene. A girl was on her knees with books thrown around her, while a guy towered over her. There were more details theat turned my anger to rage. When the girl turned toward my voice, I saw her single crimson eye and unique colour of hair. It was Suka.
In one fluid motion I grabbed the student and slammed him against the wall. "You stay away from her," I said through gritted teeth. I was suddenly kicked in the stomach. I was forced to step back. "Why? What's it to you?" The smug look on his face made my blood boil. He continued, Why protect her? She is the product of a failed bloodline. She is more human than vampyre. My social status is greater than both of you, so I was born to order her around. I am Alexander Folli." The way he said that rubbed me the wrong way.
So the punk was part of the Folli clan. He was also half right. His family name carried much weight, considering they were nobles. But his name was not higher than mine. He thought that waving his name around gave him special rights. That he could get away with anything. He also thought he could bully the woman I loved. That was unacceptable. I looked down at Suka. She looked scared and on the verge of tears.
He had made her cry. Something broke inside of me. I was mad. Really mad. My eyes flashed silver. Alexander fell to the ground. Now I was the one towering over him. In a calm voice that masked my anger, I said, "You stay away from her. Don't come near her. Don't even look at her." Alexander was the one now that felt fear. "What are you?" The fear in his voice was clear. My eyes turned back to dull crimson. I pointed to the school. "Get out of here." I had never seen someone run so fast in my life.
I turned back to Suka. She was still on the ground surrounded by her books. I knelt down in front of her. After staring at me for a few seconds, her eyes twinkled. "Tybus!" She flung herself forward and I caught her. "It has been so long and hard without you. Thank you for dealing with my cousin," she said as she rested her head against my chest. Wait. Alexander Folli is her cousin?! I must have made my confusion easy to read because Suka got up to face me. Something in her eyes told me to listen to what she was about to disclose to me.
"While I am glad that you came to help me, I think you might have started a war," Suka said, staring directly into my eyes. "A war? I think I can handle Folli," I answered confidently. Suka shook her head rapidly. "Do you know what Tempest is?" I thought for a moment. " Isn't Tempest the name of the rebel sect that is always causing trouble?" I asked.
I had learned about Tempest from my father. Tempest was a band of people who believed that those with power should be in power. They believed that power is absolute. My father had fought them on multiple occasions when they started spreading rumors that the king was unfit to rule, hiding behind others because he was weak. Every time, my father pushed them back. But they were still there.
Suka's voice brought me back from my thoughts. "My cousin is part of Tempest. He is one of the three leaders." I put my hand up. "Stop. How do you know this?" I questioned. Suka sighed. "Two years ago, when I left you, I tried to go back home. But they shut me out. They were glad I had left. They said it had cleansed the village. When I was at my lowest, Alexander came to me. He said all the things I wanted to hear. He said Tempest would take care of me. So, I joined him. But when I found out that they killed whoevever wasn't strong enough, according to them, I defected. Alexander found out and shut me out. He also said I would be dead if I ever came back."
I clenched my fists. My eyes flashed silver and my hair started to glow. The rage and sorrow I felt was ripping my heart in two. The life that Suka had been given enraged me. Why her? Suka threw he arms around me. "Stop. calm down. I'm right here," she whispered in my ear. My eyes widened. My fists softened. Suka leaned back to look at me. Her hand wiped my eyes. It was at that moment I realized that I had been crying. Suka smiled. "I see that you still care for me so much." As I calmed down, my features receded back to normal. "There is more that you need to know about Alexander, Suka said. "He is a hybrid like you. But he is a half elf, half vampyre. And to him, what you did earlier was a declaration and show of power. The way he is, means you challenged his claim of being the strongest. He will want to fight you to restore his title. The time he will most likely do it is the Entrance Duels."
Oh, this was going to be good. Being a hybrid of elf and vampyre meant that Alexander would have access to both elf elemental magic and vampyre dark magic. What a great combo. But That would have to wait. I gathered Suka's things and we both ran to the school, hoping to make it in time for the entrance ceremony.
We made it just in time. Suka and I found two empty seats in the back. The ceremony, was for the most part, completely boring. They went through the layout of the school and connecting dorms. Next was the safety of using magic outside of classes or duels. Next came the part I had been waiting for. The Principal stood and walked forward. "In about an hour, we will begin the Entrance Duels. This will be a Two on Two match. This will be used to tell us what to teach each student and what class they shuld be in. Remember, no lethal magic is to be used. Only magic that can be healed from. Now choose your partner and wait in your designated room. If the pairing works, the two students have permission to live together in the dorm. Get ready and have fun!" The principal left the stage.
There was a mad scramble in the auditorium as students rushed to find a partner. I smiled at Suka. I had already found mine. Suka gripped my hand tightly. Having made our selection, Suka and I were ushered into a room to wait for our match to begin. I took this lull in my busy first day to pull Suka aside. As I was holding her hand I began. "Two years ago I told you how I felt about you. You told me to wait to see if I still loved you when I turned fifteen." Suka nodded her head. "Well, It has been two years. I still have these feelings so much that they have grown to overflowing." Suka looked up at me with tears in her eyes. "You really love me, don't you? Fine. I will have you if you will have me. I have one request," she said. I was fine with anything. I nodded my head. Suka looked down. "Make a Pact with me so I know you will never leave me." This was it. The moment I had waited for.
I quickly grabbed her in a tight embrace. "I will never leave you," I said as I bit into her collar bone. Suka let out a small noise. I felt a small dull pain in my collar bone. I smiled and held Suka even closer. We would never leave each other. I was partly satisfied. Call me old fashioned for thinking of my old life, but I wanted to get a ring for her. She wouldn't know why, but I would. That is all that mattered.
We now waited in the room to find out who we were facing. I had an idea of who we would be facing, but I hoped against it. We also had to figure out our battle plan. Suka was consiterably weaker than me. So I did not want her to be on the front lines. Suka came up with a plan of her own. Being adept in healing magic, she suggested that I be the one to face the enemy while she backed me up with her magic. We embraced each other as we watched the other matches through a looking glass. Finally it was our turn. We were the last duel of the day. "Entrance Duel number thirty six: Alexander Folli and Zander Sepher versus Tybus Alucard and Suka Dyrid!"
We enter the gym. we stood on a field of grass and rock. This was made by magic to emulate a real place you would find outside. it was quite ingenious. Alexander and Zander entered from the other side of the gym. Both shot me murderous glances. I guess Alexander told his partner what I had done. "Watch out for his partner. He is a powerful summoner," called Suka. I glanced at her. The look on her face told me all I needed to know. Zander was also part of Tempest. Figures. "Hey, failure, don't go spoiling the best parts," Alexander yelled across the gym. He flashed a smirk at me. His smile quickly turned to distain, seeing my collar bone. "You entered a Pact with her? That is one more reason to bring you to your knees," he spat at me. Shields raised around the teachers and students watching the match. A voice shouted out, "Begin!"
I stepped in front of Suka. I invoked my Transformation. My eyes flashed silver and my hair became a light silver. Out of my palms shot black flames. I closed my eyes and focused. The flames changed shape. I was holding two deep black swords. Alexander had ordered Zander forward, but now, Zander had stopped his advance. His fear was written across his face. My eyes narrowed and I let out a roar. It brought Zander to one knee. My eyes flashed again. "What on earth are you doing?" yelled Alexander. Zander turned to face him. "I can't move!" he yelled back. "My body won't listen to me!" Alexander was shocked. "What are you!?" he screamed at me. In a commanding voice I answered, "I am a Vampyre."
"Liar!!"
Alexander was raging. My calm answer enraged him to no end. So, I clarified: "I am a Dracula" The room went silent. Alexander looked terrified. Everyone did. I guess they knew that the Royal family name was Dracula. With a loud voice he called Zander back to him. I released Zander and stood in the middle of the arena. Alexander stood up to me. "If what you say is true, I will come at you with everything I have. Prepare yourself." I took a step back and nodded. "Show me your full power!"
Alexander made a motion at Zander. He nodded and produced eight vampires from four magic circles. I smiled as they charged me. I grabbed the first one by the head and slammed it into the floor, cracking it. I took down another two by impaling them with my black swords. I kicked another into the wall, and it broke through. Suka took care of the other four by spearing them all at once with her magic.
Alexander motioned Zander to stop. He grinned at me. "I see you can beat my partner, but you can't do the same to me." He produced two swords from behind his back Once was made of ice and the other was made of gold fire. He swung at me. Both our swords clashed with a loud clang. The impact created a small shockwave. Zander, who was closer to us, got knocked out by this attack. A magic circle apeared around him, and he was removed from the field. I poured more of my power into my blades. The next time our blades connected was the last.
My two blades made short work of his. The flame blade was swollowed up by darkness and the ice blade was completly shattered. Alexander was getting desperate. The attacks that were being thrown at me were powerful easy to dodge or parry. Now it as a waiting game. It was only a matter of time before he eliminated himself due to magic depletion. Alexander had a wild look in his eyes. I was horrified at what he said next. "If I can't beat you with my power, I'll beat you with yours!" Red and black light surrounded his hands. I fell to my knees. It felt like my soul was being ripped out of me. Alexander was laughing. "Your power is now mine!" In both of his hands were my black swords. He went at me swinging. I blocked the attack with my arms.
The blades cut deep into my flesh. The Impact threw me back into the wall. The impact made me lose my breath. I struggled to stand. There was another impact beside me. I looked down. It was Suka. In that moment, time slowed. He had hurt Suka. Her body slumped against the wall. A magic circle formed and she disapeared. I struggled to look at Alexander. He smiled a evil smile. That drove me over the edge. I screamed a guttural roar. Tears streamed down my face."Use my Power," a voice in my head whispered. With fists clenched, I opened my eyes. The silver was gone. My eyes were now red with yellow centers. My hair was a bright crimson. "One attack, that's all you can do right now," the voice once again whispered.
Alexander stumbled back, The black swords disapearing as he dropped them. I pulled my fists back and pushed it forward into his face. "I'm sorr-!" His apology was cut short as he flew backwards through the gym wall. When he landed, the energy he took from me expelled from his body as black smoke. He disapeared in a magic circle. Again, I fell to my knees. The crimson melted from my body. "See you soon," the voice whispered. "Winner: Tybus Alucard!" the loud speaker called out. I fell onto my back as I lost all consciousness.
