Felixa's eyes ended up behind Max's shoulder as he carried her. She saw the white cat once more. That fluffy pure whiteness on a spread of dirt is not hard to ignore.
The white cat was following them from a distance.
Intrigued by the cat that makes its appearance at times, she watched it closely. Meeting eyes with her, the cat stopped.
When they reached the stairs leading to the mansion, Felixa noticed one of the maids carrying a bucket of water to water the plants walking towards the cat without noticing it as she was talking to another maid carrying laundry.
[Why is she not looking to her front? She's going to trip on the cat!]
Felixa got anxious and watched if the cat moves. The cat moved, in fact, but its movement made her surprised. Jumping on the laundry the maid had in her hands, it stepped on the maid's shoulder before landing on the ground.
Felixa watched as the maid walking as if nothing happened. Even if the cat was not heavy, the maid should have noticed that fluffy ball of whiteness coming at her.
[Why didn't she? Does that mean…]
They got in the mansion and Felixa noticed the servants and maids who saluted them didn't even notice or shoo away a bright white cat.
[So, no one can see the cat? And if I can see it…]
Felixa figured out that this should be something related to her doing the "witchcraft" as Lucy put it. She added seeing the cat to the list of things she should never mention to anyone.
-----
Sitting on the bed, Felixa observed the doctor who is about to check her. With a leather bag in her hand and a smile on her lips, she looked pretty. She looked like she is in her mid-twenties.
She was conversing with Max in another language which Felixa didn't understand.
But what intrigued Felixa was not the language she spoke, but her attire. She was obviously a woman but she was obviously wearing a men's attire.
For Felixa who in the past had to keep everything about her, even her voice, hidden, to be in the battlefield among men, this little thing seemed daring.
[Has times changed that much? Does society accepts women doing what they want now?]
Felixa liked this change.
"Good morning, Lady Felixa. I am Dr. Pricilla, the personal doctor of the Brute- Ahem," The doctor cleared her throat when she felt Max's glare on her.
"I am the personal doctor of the great Emperor of Lethusia," she turned to look at Maximus with a sardonic smile. "Am I right... Your Majesty?"
She was talking the language of Deberia with an accent.
"Ehem," Maximus coughed in his fists and pointed at Felixa. "Get to it," he said with a little anger in his tone.
Felixa could sense that his tone is gentle with her but it still wasn't as gentle as it would be with her. She figured out that Maximus and Doctor Pricilla share a deeper bond than of a doctor and patient.
"I'll…wait outside," Maximus looked at Felixa and Felixa nodded with a smile.
"Let's start…" the doctor said in a chirpy voice and helped Felixa in getting out of her dress.
Felixa lied on the bed in her undergarments and the doctor checked her. She asked questions about her food intake and how she felt when she was abused. And the question about being on the rag came up here too.
While noticed that the leather bag Pricilla brought had some vials and pills that seemed to have magical qualities. Felixa was aware of them because that was all the medicines they had in her past life.
Pricilla had a lot of questions to ask Felixa and she observed every inch of her body.
Although Felixa didn't understand why it is important for the doctor to know what she felt when she got hit, she answered. She tried to get as much as from Wispy's memory but as for feelings, she didn't feel much and she told everything to the doctor truthfully.
With a smiling face, she looked trustworthy.
"You're wearing men's attire, doctor Pricilla," Felixa inquired as she couldn't help it.
"I am," Pricilla smiled as she helped Felixa wear the gown. "It is more comfortable."
"You're pretty," she smiled and was happy to see the little blush on Pricilla's face.
More than her appearance, her conduct made her more beautiful in the eyes of Felixa.
But Pricilla controlled her smile almost immediately making Felixa arrive at the conclusion that Pricilla doesn't like chitchatting.
Felixa had a lot of questions she wanted to ask Pricilla, but she held them back. Those are not important. She has other important things to care for.
[But she seems like an interesting character… And she has knowledge about magic. So will she know about souls and magical capabilities? Can I ask her if there can be two souls in one body?]
Maybe Pricilla understood Felixa's deep stare, she started talking about herself.
"I am from Esthansia, the Kingdom East to Deberia. My grandfather was a famous doctor. I wanted to study medicine but since I was a woman I wasn't allowed to. I learned a lot from my grandfather's old notes, and I dressed up as a man. With help, I started to help people in impoverished villages. But I got on the nerves of the Royal physician when I helped the King get better... He ousted my gender and I was awarded capital punishment for impersonation and lying to the Monarch," Pricilla's hands slowed down as she spoke.
"Capital punishment? After you helped the King? Did he feel no guilt? " Felixa interjected Pricilla knitting her brows. "That's absurd!" Felixa couldn't accept that. It made her sad and angry.
[Guess, society hasn't changed after all]
Felixa's heart turned sore.
