The darkness and vast nothingness continues to surround me, encompassing my senses leaving me trapped in my own mind.
I was just going for a walk and bam! complete and utter nothingness. I have no idea where I am, nor how much time has passed. Perhaps its been one minute or a couple days. If I could feel even one of my five senses, maybe I could figure out how much time has passed. Unfortunately, its hard to feel hungry or thirsty when I can't even feel my body!
Time continues to pass for me in this timeless zone. Yes, a paradox if I ever heard one. Is time even moving or is it a figment of my subconscious mind clinging onto my last shreds of sanity.
Honestly, these thoughts are a little beyond me. I mean, I'm just a seventeen year old guy from Michigan, not some physicist. I like reading web novels, imagining myself gaining magical powers, and fantasizing about girls who will most likely never like me. I was never prepared to be swallowed by infinite darkness.
Suddenly, what I think are probably my feet, touch solid ground and instantly my senses return to me.
I'm standing on a floating rock still wearing my athletic wear from my walk. The only thing on the rock is a stone pedestal filled with writing.
I slowly turn my head away from the pedestal, deciding that I would read it later. What really has grasped by attention in the pitch black emptiness surrounding the floating rock in all directions.
I start to hyperventilate, panic taking over my mind, as I realize that I'm totally screwed. I really don't want to experience the previous trip through the blackness again. However, I know that long term survival on a floating rock without food or water isn't a sustainable lifestyle.
I grab my hair and start pulling it while walking in circles. This lasts for a few minutes. I may have screamed a few profanities, but who's here to prove I did?
Finally, I was able to close my eyes and imagine the yin and yang of the universe mixing together bringing harmony and peace to my soul.
Not really. I wish I was that legendary. The truth is that I just got tired of panicking and decided it was time to read the stone pedestal.
I had no idea what language it was. It looked like a bunch of random squiggles overlapping each other. Fortunately, for some strange reason I was able to read the text.
"Congratulations! Or perhaps my condolences. I guess it really does not matter, for if you are reading this, you stand at the precipice of the infinite universe. Maybe you are a supreme being who traveled through the void and reached this rock, or a poor soul who fell into a crack in reality.
Either way, as I am a small inconsequential being who travels the myriad of worlds in the vast universe, I decided to build this pedestal to help explain a few things to those fortunate enough to land on this rock.
First, the scary black nothingness surrounding you, is the void separating worlds, planes, and realms of existence. It is a vast emptiness that contains nothing and everything. Now if you are a supreme being looking for more power, then the next part doesn't relate much to you. You might as well jump off this rock and keep looking. However, if you are a little mortal being who fell through a crack in reality, then pay attention to this part.
Because for reasons unknown, a huge opportunity has fallen into your lap. When you leave this rock and jump back into the void, whatever you have set in your mind may be realized upon your arrival at your next destination. Choose carefully, as this decision will shape your new life.
As I have been to many worlds; Dao Cultivation, Wizard Plane, Mecha Tech, Psi Gene, and many more. I have come up with a list of helpful options.
Strong magic infinity in all elements, Dao of Space/Time, a powerful physique, increased intellect, immortality, ability to travel to different worlds.
The choices are endless, your only limit is perhaps your own imagination.
One last warning. Don't be greedy as you will end up with mediocre results instead.
Now lock what you want into your mind and jump into the void. Perhaps fate will bring us together in the future.
For my name is Zurich."
I reread it multiple times to make sure I wasn't having a hallucinogenic episode. I wasn't certain if I should be crying because I couldn't go home, or giddy with excitement at this opportunity. Deciding to reflect on my emotions later, I needed to think of the most outrageously over powered ability I could come up with.
There are a lot of ideas from novels i've read that I could copy. However, if I chose one, I feel like I would be missing out on something better later. It was quite the conundrum. Every time I think of an amazing choice my imagination comes up with other ideas that may be better.
Suddenly I thought of what Zurich said, "Your only limit is perhaps your own imagination"
Imagination.
IMAGINATION!
If the limit is imagination, then why not choose imagination?! Does imagination even have a limit?
With my choice made, I calmed my mind, took a deep breath and ran towards the edge if the rock. With a big leap, I reentered the void.
However, this time I had only one idea repeating constantly in my head.
'Dao of Imagination, Imagination to Reality, Imagination Magic, Limitless Imagination, Imagination, Imagination Imagination...'
----------------
A boy of seventeen traveled through the void. As he traveled his flesh started to melt away, leaving only a transparent soul in its place. This soul continued on its journey, heading towards an unknown destination. He may have traveled in the void for endless years, or perhaps it was only a second. Only the void may know.
Finally, the soul arrived at a blue membrane, covering a vast floating land. No, land was too small of a word. This was a plane.
Shockingly, the membrane held no obstruction for the soul. It passed through and entered the vast plane. As if finding a target, the soul shot through the air, and arrived above a vast fairyland filled with ancient oriental architecture.
The soul arrived at the top of a mountain peak, where a magnificent jade palace was built. After an endless journey through the void and across a vast plane, the soul of the boy finally finished its travels by entering the stomach of a beautiful women.
And so an epic beyond imagination began.
