"Ayana Collins. Human. Twenty-six. African Japanese American. owner of God's Eye Detective agency. Youngest Detective in PPD history...disgraced..."
The slightly older female officer sitting across the table from Ayana shifted her gaze from the file she was looking at before continued.
"One brother. Recently admitted into Purgavllle's Eclipse Academy University. Parents deceased."
"Didn't realize I was getting a history lesson on my life." Ayana interrupted annoyed.
The woman carried on as if she heard nothing. "Numerous complaints from very influential individuals ranging from slander to harassment. This recent filing from Ethan McGregor..."
"He is a murderer and a criminal like all the rest!"
"Mr. McGregor is a renowned realtor and a pillar of the community. I assume you have evidence of a crime?"
"I was this close to getting air tight proof when you guys pulled me away. It's probably being disposed off while we sit here doing nothing."
"You were apprehended breaking into a private place."
Ayana sucked her teeth whispering under her breath. "No way anyone saw me go in. How'd you know I was there?"
Ayana breathed in. "Hey newbie. Where's Inspector Tan? TAN! Why am I still here!? I've been here long enough. Your bosses have probably moved any evidence I would have found by now. Let me go already. Adonde is home waiting for me you know?"
The female Detective cut in. "Do you really think you can just go home after..."
"First week in purgaville? You know nothing about how this city works. TAAANNN! I'M GONNA BE PISSED IF ADONDE GOES TO BED HUNGRY!
The door to the interrogation room opened as one of her former colleagues step inside. "You good to go Holmes."
"About time." Ayana got up to leave then paused. "Newbie if you want a wider picture of Purgaville and its police department, simply ask yourself why are the jails practically empty yet there's so much crime?"
Behind the two way mirror was Inspector Tan, the Orcish chief of police, and a mysterious figure obscured by an oddly dim white shadow.
The figure's words came from behind his black mask. "She is becoming more and more of a disruption to the organization I belong to. Not just in this instance but the others as well."
"She has a nasty habit of being a pain. A firecracker with good senses and a knack for investigative work. Still though, she isn't a threat to the Order. She never gets far before we stop her."
"The problem is not that she is always stopped. It is in the fact she always seems to be on the right path. That can no longer be permitted.
"What will you have us do?"
"Nothing. The Order shall deal with this matter personally. Good day Inspector." The figure faded into the wall and was gone.
Ayana finally reached the lobby of the building. surprising but still expected Adonde was sitting at one of the benches alongside the greatest golem ever made.
She sighed. "What's he doing here? I thought I said keep him home till I got back."
The golem, dressed as a maid, spoke. "The young master was adamant you had been arrested and needed rescuing mistress."
Ayana's eye twitched. "Aren't you supposed to follow your master's orders, you know the one who built and maintains you?"
"Yes I do. I follow my master's orders to the letter."
"I think you need a check up or something, when did i order you to bring him here?"
"Maybe you need a check up. How'd you get arrested this time?" Adonde smiled meekly. "You didn't break in somewhere and get caught immediately again did you?"
Ayana flinched from the accuracy. "Nevermind that. Let's get take out tonight I'm too exhausted to cook anything."
"Way to go Holmes. You've done it again." several of her former colleagues began to call out to her as they headed towards the doors.
"You know Holmes, I think Shinji Himora of the Himora group is trafficking elves and pixies. Can I have you look into that?
"Sure thing Colby, send the deposit first thing in the morning." She flipped him off with a irritated grin.
"Holmes I'd like to hire you too. I'm really stuck on this case and I've run out of leads."
"I'd be happy to look at it when I get the chance. have loads of work at the office." She turned to exit and mumbled angrily. "Dicks."
The trio soon after found themselves leaving their favorite late night sushi bar, bags in hand, walking home. Not too much had been said since leaving the police station.
Adonde spoke first. "Say, you're still pretty respected down at the precinct huh? They still call you after the great Sherlock Holmes." He smiled trying to cheer up his sister.
She looked saddened. "It's no longer out of respect Adonde. It's to ridicule me and my string of failures. I haven't solved a single case since opening the shop."
They stopped in front of a small square two-story shop. The name God's Eye was plastered above its door like an awning.
"Sure you have. In fact..." Adonde turned towards the golem. "How many was it?"
"Four cases solved to completion." it responded.
"See?"
"That's over the past two years and out of like fifty cases. Plus those four were all petty runaway cases." Ayana sighed having made herself depressed. "I've nearly depleted what little savings I had from before I quit the force. I need to solve this case to get back in the green."
"I'm sure you will you're the greatest Detective in the city."
"Thanks." The smile on Ayana's face instantly disappeared. "Adonde go inside and set up a spot for us to eat. I'll be behind you in a sec, okay?"
Adonde nodded and went inside leaving Ayana and her golem behind. Ayana turned around and surveyed the empty streets. She could feel magical energy emanating from three different sources. They were huge. she released hers. It was larger.
"This aint my first rodeo. If McGregor wanted to make a point he should have sent stronger guys...or more of you."
Three bodies stepped from the shadows. They wore all white robes with a blind fold over their eyes, a strange sigil tattooed on the foreheads. They brandished guns. They weren't normal guns. These could fire compressed magical energy so dense it could penetrate a magic barrier. These weren't cheap or easily crafted, and were difficult to use.
Ayana drew her weapon, a simple looking but elegant rapier. The blade was dulled to make it more suited to encapacitate than to kill.. Her magical energy began to pool around the blade like a flame. Her body was encased in a thin light blue aura.
She dash forward and then to the side as the mana bullets rained down. Her speed was incredible thanks to the energy she was gathering I'm her legs. Not only was she top of her class in terms of an investigator but she was top ranked in combat as well.
Ayana quickly closed the distance and and delivered an devastating body blow. One body slumped to the ground. She rested the rapier on her shoulders for a sec.
"If you were gonna make it this easy, why bother coming?"
The remaing two silently gazed at one another then back to Ayana. The sigil on there heads began to emit an eerie red glow. Veins from the face protruded hard against their skin. Their magical energy exploded and now eclipsed hers by a wide margin.
"Hey now, that's a little unfair right?" She joked as a nervous sweat slowly trickled down the side of her face.
The two drew blades of their own. One lifted a leg to take a step. That step landed him directly in front of Ayana in a flash. She barely reacted in time to save her neck, catching the blade with her own sword.
It was a heavy strike that she couldn't fully defend against. The next second she was swept off her feet and flung in the trajectory of the blow. She impacted hard against a neighboring car leaving a deep, body shaped dent into its side.
Without a pause the second figure was inches away from from piercing her heart, when a motorbike zipped through the air and crashed into him. Ayana looked to the direction the bike came from. Her golem was dusting off its uniform.
"Thanks."
"I live to serve mistress."
The remaining assailant shifted focus to the golem and attacked. It blocked the blade with her forearm. Any other golem would have been sliced but hers wasn't made exclusively from dirt and rocks. Hers was complety made of a metal alloy and costed a great deal of magical energy to even keep it functional on a rudimentary level.
He adjusted and swung to cut its head off. it leaned back with precision and grace. The sword whizzed through the empty air mere inches from its nose. He continued to slash at it while it effortlessly moved and dodge every attack. Ayana didn't realize it could move so quickly and precisely while barely consuming any of her magical energy. It then countered with a side kick sending the assailant skidding down the street, coming to a halt in front of Ayana. She held her sword at his neck.
"Well well. Looks like I snagged myself a golden goose."
