Chapter 15 - Chapter 14

"She's dead?!" The poor girl's voice echoed in the background. "No! No! You said you'll fix her!" Her voice trembled.

"I am sorry, miss." The doctor sighed. "Could you contact your friend's parents?" He asked.

The young girl shouted and wailed in front of the doctor. It was a mess. While the doctor and another nurse tried to calm the girl down, Anna and Samantha cleaned the deceased teen.

"She died so young." Anna sighed.

"We have been doing this for half a decade now, and this type of death still haunts me." Samantha said while cleaning the girl's wound. "This wound looks like it's been here for a week!" She added.

"Strange, isn't it?" Anna asked without glancing at the wound. "The wound looked like it was torn by some wild animal!"

"Ms. Sanbwan!" A shrill voice tore from the chaos in the E.R., "Ms. Sanbwan!"

Ms. Min, came out from the crowd and called Anna out.

Anna immediately approached her. "Yes, Ms. Min?" She asked.

"I guess, you and Ms. Cerna had to escort that poor girl to the morgue." The old lady sniffed. "What's that rotting smell?" She sniffed again.

"The patient's wound, Ms. Min." Anna answered timidly.

"Was she diabetic?" Her supervisor raised an eyebrow.

"I think she doesn't." Anna answered. "We haven't got the time to check with—"

"It's your job to know, my dear!" The supervisor raised her tone. "You ought to know."

"Not without a family member, you can't." Dr. Lazaro appeared behind her supervisor's back.

Ms. Min's tone turned from being condescending to a generally sweet old lady. "Dr. Lazaro! How are you? I hope you're well." She smiled at the young doctor.

"Indeed, I am, Ms. Min." The young doctor pointed at the dead girl. "But that girl…damn, we couldn't find any history with her. She seemed to have run away with her girlfriend." He added.

"Girlfriend?!" Ms. Min's face crinkled from hearing the word. "Surely you mean, a friend who is a girl?" She laughed dryly over the comment.

Dr. Lazaro squinted his eyes and clicked his tongue. "I meant as a lover. In every sense of the word." He said in a slowly to annoy the old maid.

"My goodness!" Ms. Min gestured a sign of the cross before leaving them both.

Anna muffled a laugh while Dr. Lazaro winked at her, grinning. "Now, she wouldn't bother you. Tell Rico, I said hi!" The young doctor smiled and scrammed away to the next patient.

She was unable to react as Dr. Lazaro simply dashed to the other side of the room. She went back to Samantha, who was doing the finishing touches to the poor, young girl.

"Social services, called the girls' parents and will be heading this way soon." Samantha reported.

"That's good!" She smiled weakly as she tended the dead patient. "Samantha…."

"I heard it." Samantha sighed. "That damned Ms. Minchin! She knew how much I loathe the morgue! Damn her!" She shook her head.

"Me too." Anna whispered while worrying about the beast inside of her.

Anna slipped her hand inside her skirt pocket and shook the cylindrical container where her pills were placed. She counted silently how many was left from the previous time. Luckily, there was still a few more left.

"Anna, what if there are ghost on the morgue?!" Samantha's voice trembled. "Or worse, zombies."

"You are watching too much horror movies, your brain is already full of scary stuff." Anna snickered.

"No, I am not…" Samantha insisted as she hid her blushing face.

"Scaredy cat." Anna said while trying to also calm herself. "Stop watching those damned movies!" She added.

"Whatever, Anna!" Samantha sighed in frustration. "Can we just get this over with?"

Anna nodded and called for one of the janitors. They needed a stretcher to carry the poor girl into the morgue. It took a while for the janitor to arrive with the stretcher. After a few exchanges of words, the dead was properly placed into the stretcher. Unfortunately, the janitor had to go somewhere else. Samantha and her, sighed and decided to push the stretcher for themselves.

The corridor going to the morgue was dimly lit, a cliché that often the movie depicts but was real. They turned left and headed down a small elevator.

"Oh fuck! I hate this!" Samantha mumbled. "Why are morgues always located below the hospital?! So…"

"Well, I think they go by a theme." Anna said. "Above are the living, and below are the dead. It totally makes sense." She added.

"Stop it!" Samantha interrupted. "Don't you mention any of that while we're here!" Her voice trembled.

The elevator trip was just a story below. They went down and was greeted by the cold air of the morgue.

"WTF?!" Samantha's voice quivered once again. "Be quite and let's make this quick!" She pushed the stretcher and silently approached the door.

Anna was calm. Her fears about the thing inside her might get triggered, but just like the E.R. nothing happened. Samantha swiped her ID to open the morgue and immediately pushed the cart so hard that Anna almost fell down face first.

"Watch it!" Anna went out of balance and almost hugged the covered corpses laid on the tables inside the morgue.

"I hate it here!" Samantha anxiously ran back to the door. Unfortunately for her, she didn't notice the door stopper and tripped on it. Her face landed on the steel door before she tumbled on the ground unconscious.

"Samantha!" Anna shouted as her friend laid unconscious on the floor. She checked her friend and was relieved to know that aside from a welt on Samantha's forehead, she was okay.

"P-please… don't tell anyone about this." Her dazed friend embarrassingly pleaded.

"My goodness!" Anna shook her head. "Don't you dare do that again! That was stupid!"

"I freaked out!" Samantha laughed.

Anna sighed but laughed along with her friend afterwards. She helped her stood up and swiped the sensor on the door. The door opened and both of went back to the E.R. muffling their laughter. Their supervisor waited for them at the elevator door upstairs and immediately greeted them the moment they exited the door.

"Well, ladies." Ms. Min coughed. "That took you awhile."

Anna and Samantha looked at each other, trying to find a good alibi rather than tell their supervisor of the early shenanigan that happened.

"Nevermind." Ms. Min clicked her tongue. "By the way, have you seen the young girl's chart?"

Anna looked at Samantha's face drained of blood. "I…I…"

Ms. Min squinted her eyes and was about to bark at her poor friend when Anna immediately answered.

"I will get it down the morgue." Anna smiled nervously as Ms. Minchin shook her head.

"My goodness! You ladies are being paid here for your skill, not for your clumsiness!" The old maid began.

"I-I will go ahead and help Anna—" Samantha tried her best to find a way out of the old supervisor's sermon, but she was too late…far too late.

The old lady ordered her to stay there as Anna nervously ran back to the morgue.
