Hate could be born anywhere.
It could come from having nothing and envying those that do have something.
Others who had a lot could loathe those beneath them due to them having so much yet their freedom was not a thing they had when they were weighted down by responsibilities and so much more.
Those who hate and envy those above do so due to them wanting what they cannot attain and not knowing the difficulties that come from being in such a position.
Those that hate or envy those below do so due to them wanting a simpler life where they could decide their own lives and not have so many others relying on them yet most were usually unaware of the struggles of those beneath them.
Both sides would lack understanding of the other so there was room for hatred to sprout from there.
Just as the people of the capital could not fully understand those of the outsiders outside of their walls, those from the further north could not fully understand the people of the capital.
To the people of the further north, the people of the Capital had so much to themselves so they envied and hated them for it.
They fought among themselves to survive in horrible circumstances so it further amplified their resentment towards those they believed were living much better lives than themselves.
They did not know what it took to maintain such a place like the capital and to sustain the many lives living within.
They were born into such a life so they usually just needed someone to blame or target that was better off than themselves.
They were used to taking from others and killing so the people of the capital were excellent targets for that.
It was a way to unite the greatly divided population in their area since a common enemy usually brought them together.
To the people of the capital, those outside were most likely destined to die out especially if they lived in some areas but there was nat least some degree of freedom and lack of responsibilities.
Most people outside just needed to worry about their own lives and how to live through the next day, week, month and year while the people higher up in the capital were doing their best to maintain so many lives that depended on them.
One mistake meant many would die and a bigger mistake could lead to an even greater loss.
Some grew tired of the ignorance of the masses and how they constantly complained about their living situation while others offered aid to those that needed it since they were able to do so from their current position.
Others would see others outside the walls as vagrants, savages, outlaws and many other names to call them since they were uncultured and barbaric so they would be seen as not worth saving but despite that, they failed to realise that those savages only started out that way due to them having to live that way.
Depending on each person, perspective and situation, everything could have turned out very differently.
Unfortunately an abandoned place far north away from the capital was a place where help could not be given even if there were those willing to provide aid.
Others who sought to make use of those so called savages were those who saw their brutality and lack of culture as something to exploit.
There were always cases of lower class groups being used in much bigger plots by those above them in order to carry out a big task which would result in many sacrifices in order to gain little rewards for their efforts.
In some cases, after they had no longer been useful, they would be discarded.
In other cases, there were times when those above greatly underestimated who they were dealing with so they were the ones to have to deal with the consequences of their decisions.
Without another target or outlet to vent on like the Central Lands, they all had no choice but to turn their attention towards those they hated just as much or even more who were very close by even of it meant working with others they would not usually work with.
Unusual alliances were formed but the hatred still remained.
Even the most ignorant person fighting could see that they would have a cruel fate ahead if they were captured by their enemies.
Two sides fought fiercely killing anyone that crossed their path or dying to their enemies blade hoping for their death to be as swift and as painless as possible.
Blood stained the snow and ice as bodies littered around the lower parts of the mountain.
Just as the situation was still in a poor state and some smaller groups had come from behind to trap the remaining survivors between two sides, a loud noise was heard from further away.
A fierce cloud of snow and mist was built up from the rumbling of heavy footsteps from animals and humans as they charged forward.
Each one was armed with thick leather or metal armour along with the weapons they carried which showed they were a formidable force that were not a simple group.
A war horn was blown loudly causing the despair on the faces of those fighting to suddenly light back up again as they began fighting to survive just a little longer to be saved.
Upon seeing and heading the approaching army coming, the enemy forces at the front suddenly started to split apart as many at the back and middle began to flee in one direction as if they had been expecting it to happen leaving behind the others to be used as sacrifices to help their own survival. "Retreat!"
