Upon meeting up with the masked and cloaked people, he was ordered to follow them back to the base.
The moment he was close to the base, he was bound and gagged with no means of escape.
Himself and the swordsman were dragged into the main room and he was killed without mercy by his captors.
Not everyone is so willing to follow through with an agreement within the Blood Sect and he had met a group that were not honourable enough to keep their word.
Even after saying they would spare him if he followed their orders, they still killed him once he had done everything they had asked.
It did not matter whether he deserved it or this was a form of karma for his bad deeds but was just a bit of bad luck that the people chosen to carry out this task chose these methods to being in the swordsman and were one of the groups with the most difficult personalities.
When dealing with such people it was always wise to be careful when following their orders and find a way to come out of it unharmed because they will not uphold their end of the deal.
Coming himself was a poor decision but he did not wish to leave any witnesses of the swordsman's disappearance and death to buy time for his escape.
He should have used a similar method to what the Sound Clan had and asked for their witness to be disposed of upon delivering the captive swordsman for him, that way he would not have been so easy to capture and kill upon completing the task.
After the task was completed and the witness had been killed, they would have to spend some time focussing on the task and remaining within the base for some time so this would give enough time to allow his escape.
There was always the risk that they may still send someone to end his life but such things were not beneficial to the Blood Sect as a whole since it would draw attention to their actions and that was something that they had been warned about.
Even the most ruthless and crazy individuals still have to follow the rules and orders of those above otherwise they will have to endure the punishment that comes with their rash actions.
The group had been slowly cutting on the body of the swordsman drawing small amounts of blood from him a little at a time while enjoying the blood of the inn owner.
Several cuts were already on his body when the door burst open.
The swordsman had already been captured for many days and had woken up while enduring the beatings and torture from the sadistic group that captured him.
He had learned the truth of the betrayal of his friend and did not believe it to be true but upon many sarcastic remarks and taunts he came to understand many things letting him know of his own foolishness.
What the Blood Sect had dug up from their sources was not something that could be ignored even if they were the enemy and were his captors.
Since they had him alive for their own purpose, they did not need to lie unless it served a certain purpose.
Since they only wanted his blood, what was left was to do was drain him completely.
Even if they wished to see him despair before his death, they did not have to make up such stories to get to him.
His ideals and justice had been broken down by them as a result of this torment after a couple of days, leaving behind a sorrowful and weak man who was lost.
The moment the door opened and people entered, he seemed to have come across a memory of his distant past.
Bandits once raided his village looting, capturing women and children and killing many who tried to fight back but someone passing by killed them all with a sword, saving him and his village from harm.
The village head rewarded the man with the little money that they could and then he left departing to an unknown location.
That was someone who he wanted to be but it now seemed as if he had strayed too far from that path long ago and not realised it.
Among the group was a masked swordsman that he could not properly make out their figure but they wielded their sword with grace and great precision that seemed to be above his own sword techniques and they also seemed to occasionally display weird movements at times as if falling over or losing their balance at times when an attack was about to land on their body.
Occasionally there would be a time when the figure grasped onto the flask at their waist and drunk from it in between the various movements.
After each drink, the movements became even more sluggish and relaxed but also more deadly.
Witnessing the swordsmanship from that figure and the others among the group like the person wielding the sabre or the one wielding the scimitar, they all had the advantage during the battle.
Once again, after being in a helpless situation he had been saved by a true hero or group of righteous heroes who wished to end the lives of the true villains.
But this time he was not hopeful for rescue, after learning the truth he no longer wished for salvation because he knew that he had been walking around blindly with a sword in hand for so many years.
He was a fraud and not a real hero, perhaps it would be better if he dies by the hands of the heroes, then perhaps he could rest in peace rather than live in torment.
