Chapter 102 - Despair and Law

Another group of slaves fled together on the hunting grounds, an old lady was trampled by the group as they escaped and soon followed was an arrow entering her body ending her life.

Someone nearby turned back to look at the old lady in fright and then suddenly another arrow flew over and hit him in the leg.

He let out a loud scream which attracted the attention of two of the wolves, the wolves began to pounce on his body and ate him alive.

The screams echoed up to the location of the noble sons on top of the hill and one of the noble sons looked upon the scene with a face full of regret. "My arrow didn't kill him so I guess it was a waste of an arrow."

Another man nearby frowned upon hearing him. "You may of lost an arrow but I lost another one of my people.."

He turned and took aim towards one of the people marked as one of the other persons servants who fired upon his own people and fired an arrow downward.

Soon after a slave fell to the ground dead after the man's act of revenge and their body attracted a wolf to begin devouring the body.

Since the wolf was distracted it did not notice that an arrow was flying towards its body and entered its throat.

It let out a low whimper and and collapsed on top of its prey taking its final weak breathes.

In another location a young couple tried their best to protect themselves.

The young lady was weaker but faster than the man and was able to evade the arrows a little better but the man was unable to.

He had an arrow pierced in his back and still had a determined look in his eyes to survive until the end and protect the one he loved.

He reached behind himself and removed the arrow and held it in his hand looking towards the wolf approaching.

The wolf began to chase the couple and caught up to them very quickly, seeing this the man stood in front of the woman in a protective manner.

The wolf jumped upon the man and bit into his shoulder but the man still held a look of determination in his eyes and moved his arm to stab the arrow into the eye of the wolf.

The wolf yelped in pain and removed its teeth from the man's shoulder, seeing him freed the woman quickly ran to hold up the man's body.

Suddenly another arrow came across the sky and headed towards the couples direction.

The man was quick to notice and pushed the woman away and the arrow entered his chest.

After being pierced by the arrow his breathe grew weaker, his breathing became more difficult and his vision was blurring.

All he could see was a large blurry figure approaching and its weight began to knock him to the ground and crush his body.

After that the wolfs teeth entered into his neck and began to eat him as the defenceless woman watched her lovers final moments and how he was devoured.

She just sat on the ground in despair and did not move from her position and soon after another arrow flew by entering her body.

Her yell after being hit from the arrow from the woman attracted the other nearby wolves which began to pounce upon her and devour her.

Up back on the top of the hill several noble sons had looks filled with disappointment after they had wasted their arrows and not been able to land a single killing blow.

Around ten minutes had passed and many scenes of death were displayed in front of the noble sons but they still continued to focus on their goal of winning.

None of them ever tried to use their arrows to target the others arrows to protect their own people but instead targeted the others people and the wolves.

The increasing smell of blood only helped to increase the aggression of the wolves, many of the wounded and remaining people within the hunting grounds were finding it more and more difficult to survive as time passed.

The rowdiness and laughter of the nobles increased within the group and they were running low on their supply of arrows.

Suddenly loud footsteps were heard walking up from behind the group of noble sons and travelled up the hill from behind their view.

One or two of them turned around to see a large group of men dressed neatly with an insignia of a dragon which was the mark of the martial alliance on their clothing.

Many of them had large builds which showed they were warriors of the martial alliance and they carried swords at their waist.

Although they did not draw out their swords they looked very intimidating so the noble sons began to become frightened and turned to the others to warn them all.

Other noble sons began to notice a change around the hunting grounds and then saw the approaching men and began to panic.

The city lords son remained calm and arrogantly spoke with his head raised high stepping forward to greet the group. "I am the city lord of Wolfden cities son, this is my hunting gathering so what brings your group here?"

The leading man within the group of warriors looked at him with disdain and lifted a document with the martial alliances mark along with the details about the law investigation department and spoke. "Under the orders of the martial alliance and the law department, you will all be detained and investigated according to the laws of the land. Your previous statuses are not enough to protect you from the crimes you have committed on this day. It is illegal to purchase slaves that aren't from legally sanctioned servant traders who treat and teach the slaves well and humanely. I can clearly see that you all have connections to illegal human traffickers, there is also evidence on your bodies and the surrounding of illegal drugs being consumed. Worst of all we have arrived just in time to witness your acts of breaking many laws by using illegal slaves and your servants as part of this illegally held hunting game that also involves using the lives of innocents for your own amusement. You have killed many innocent people and according to the law you and your families will begin to be put under a proper investigation."

The noble sons began to lift up their bow towards the man in front in a panic but suddenly another man moved quickly and removed their sword.

The sword was slashed on the noble sons arm which made him drop the bow on the ground, the noble son held his bloody arm in fear and fell to the ground as the man approached with the sword pointed at his throat.

The leader of the group then spoke up. "Anymore resistance and you will suffer from more injuries and gain more charges for breaking laws. Do you really want to add resisting arrest to your list of charges?"

The son of the city lord lost his arrogance upon seeing blood spilled in front of him. "You can't do this to us! I am the son of the city lord, you cannot touch me or my father will deal with you."

The leader of the group ignored his words. "No noble in these parts has the right to commit crimes of this scale and be able to get away with it. Can you nobles from outside the capital possibly ever be considered real nobles in the eyes of those from within the capital. In our eyes you are just a bunch of country bumpkins and primitive barbarians compared to us civilised people. Your actions today have only proved to us that you are not to be trusted to maintain the law and have a position of power and authority within this area. This kind of arrogance only shows that you are small frogs trapped within a well and cannot see the view outside."

The son of the city lords face turned white upon being reprimanded and he turned to run away but those who tried to run along with him were swiftly captured and subdued.

The leader spoke once more to his men. "Tie them up and bring them to the city, save and treat any of the survivors and get the wolves back into their cages, if you cannot get them back in just kill them quickly so we can get his over with. Capture anyone else involved and begin the investigation. Our next destination is Wolfden city after we have collected enough information."

Eric appeared on top of the hill and smiled upon hearing the reports given by his men. "Let's get this over quickly so we can get to the next tasks."
